#2417802 Visors Required - New NHL Players in '13-'14

Posted by RedWingsDad on 05 June 2013 - 10:08 AM

To those against this....do you think players should be allowed to choose whether they wear a helmet as well?

Yes, yes, your very clever.

To be clear, there are two separate angles that this needs to be considered.  First, the health insurance aspect and the fact that the team is on the line to foot the bill if the player get's hurt. From this angle, I understand the owners wanting the rule and can offer no argument. The second aspect, and the one you seem to be addressing, is whether or not the players, independent of insurance cost consideration, should have a choice to wear a visor, or in your case... a helmet.  From that angle, and to answer your question, I think players should be able to choose if they want to wear a helmet or visor.

As opposed to this, in order to reduce facial injuries they could go back to wooden sticks and further limit/enforce the curves on blades in order to reduce the general velocity of the puck.

#2416508 Standing pat according to Malik

What we really need are a couple of solid power forwards. This team has no lack of skill or finesse, but all of that meant crap against Chicago when they gave us no room and our most skilled players mostly prefer to play the perimeter looking to make a sweet pass. We need more POWA! (get to the choppa!!)

#2416029 Franzen Buyout?

Posted by RedWingsDad on 30 May 2013 - 08:24 AM

Franzen was pretty invisible this series... I kind of forgot about him.

#2414466 Trade Smith ASAP!

Smith will play his heart out tonight!

I think he has been playing his heart out... willpower is not the problem, it's his decision making.

#2409438 Another reason why Red Wings fans are awesome.

I'm a huge Wings fan, I don't really get adults taking signs to hockey games.  Kind of like grown men taking a mitt to a ball game.

Hold on now. There is nothing wrong with grown men taking a baseball mitt to a baseball game. Seriously.

ha ha... while I do really appreciate getting under Kane's skin... I have to think having a picture of his mom is going too far. I would have been hell of pissed in his place, as I’m sure most people would.

I thought that was Abby?

#2408862 Report: Roy Appointed Avalanche Coach

Posted by RedWingsDad on 21 May 2013 - 10:32 AM

This strikes me as more of a PR stunt then anything. Management: "Hey, even if he ends up stinking as a couch, we should still get a nice boost in ticket sales out of the affair."

I'm sure he has coaching credentials to some degree... but he obviously would never be considered if he didn't have star power from his time as a player. Long term, this is a bad move.

#2408795 Hey Hawks fans....

I just... I just.... *head explodes*

Holmstrom was my favorite player... it's a crime what they did to him.

#2404658 WCSF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 4, (CHI leads series 1-0)

Posted by RedWingsDad on 15 May 2013 - 10:53 AM

I think that tonight’s game means everything to Detroit if we want to win this series. If we win, we put a crack in their armor and pave the way for a possible series win. If we lose tonight, we also lose the series as Chicago's momentum from their string of regular season victories over us will be further bolstered and too much to overcome.

Tonight's game is HUGE!

#2400944 Alberta Peewee Hockey Bans Body Checking

Posted by RedWingsDad on 10 May 2013 - 11:32 AM

Your tune might change if your own child were to suffer a stage-three concussion on the ice. In addition to all of the common symptoms, this would also make him tremendously more susceptible to future concussions.

Since you arrogantly presume to tell me how I might feel about my own child... let's take your logic and run with it. Your assertion suggests I should support removing checking from hockey entirely, at any level...because after all, whether my child is in peewee or in the NHL, they are still my child.  Or perhaps your assertion is that stage three concussions are only an issue (more harmful?) at the peewee level?

Rather, I would offer up an alternative view point relating to my own child. That is, instead of trying to alter the game of hockey, I will put my son in hockey knowing that he unfortunately runs a risk of a concussion... because hitting is a part of the game. As well, teach him to play smart, keep his head up, and protect himself.

Edit: As well, the onus needs to be on the leagues and the parents to effect rule changes (slow the game down) and harsher penalties to limit concussions.

#2400874 WCQF Game 6 GDT : Ducks 3 at Red Wings 4 (OT) - (Series Tied 3-3)

If we had Helm + DK, This series would've been over in 5 games.

If we had Helm and the Dark Knight, we would have swept.

#2397243 Should Howard be benched?

Posted by RedWingsDad on 06 May 2013 - 09:12 AM

Offense can't score. Howard is the problem. Just wow

Thing is, if a goalie let's in soft goals it can deflate your team, kill momentum,  and equate to less scoring. Obviously Howard isn't all of the problem,  just saying that a goalie can effect your offensive production, albeit indirectly.
