#2391259 Thank You Detroit Red Wings...

Posted by LeftWinger on 27 April 2013 - 10:24 PM

I just wanted to start a topic for us to say Thanks to the Red Wings for providing us with a great regular season despite all the adversities and drama and odds against us! (Thank God, we didn't hear the "Too Old" card this year.)

So, despite all of this:

  • Nick Lidstrom retiring
  • Tomas Holmstrom retiring
  • Brad Stuart trade
  • New Asst. Coach
  • Losing out on Parise, Suter, Schultz, Doan and every other "Top" UFA
  • Countless injuries to our Defense creating our youngest average D since Nick and Vladdy were Rookies
  • Gustavsson hurting himself and never really turning into a reliable backup
  • Losing Helm for the season (again)
  • Losing Bertuzzi's experience and Sammy to injury

(I am sure that I am leaving something out)

But anyway, despite all of this and despite the experts having us out of the playoffs for the first time since I turned 20, THE Detroit Red Wings proved once again, that when it comes to being a perennial winning team in the NHL, nobody does it better! Eat that Olsen Twins!

SO, Despite all the above mentioned scenarios that were supposed to have us dwelling at the bottom of the NHL, you guys did it.  No matter where you go in the playoffs, this is a winning season and every other team in the league is just shaking their heads right now!

Watch out NHL, don't look now, because the Red Wings just rebuilt on the fly and will be back on top sooner than you can say 22 straight years!

THANK YOU DETROIT RED WINGS for a regular season to remember! (now lets spoil some parties!)

I feel so sorry for those of you who have only known the Wings of the last 20 years, but I'm going to try and talk you all off the ledge.  Recent history has spoiled this fanbase beyond belief. no doubt, but just because we've hit a bump in the road doesn't mean we should just blow up JLA and ship our current roster off to the remaining 29 teams.  We will be able to sign desirable free agents, we will do well in the draft, we just won't have the usual cakewalk to the playoffs.  Now, sit down for this one: we may not even make the playoffs.  You can either jump ship or take a Valium and wait for the season to begin and enjoy what you have taken for granted for so long.

#2321142 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 23 July 2012 - 11:47 AM

One's gotta think Holland has had a hard time selling the program in recent years.

I mean, yes we're an original six team with a previous winning tradition. However, we're also a team with an old, dilapidated arena, a team who just lost their franchise player, full of aging veterans and unproven youth....a team, playoff wise, has been going the wrong direction for the last 4 years.....

Yeah, doesn't really scream "attractive" does it?

Jesus Christ....of course Cougar likes your 100% negative post toward the Wings.  Aren't they in the works of making a new arena?  And when you lose your franchise player and you still have guys like Dats, Z, Kronner and young guys like Smith, Nyquist and Brunner around to insert some youth and energy into the lineup, you're not doing too bad.

The media is playing s*** up so hard about the Wings saying their dynasty is over and they're no longer a preferred destination... then why do guys want to come back after they lose for a couple years with a crap team and why do guys that lead other leagues in points want to come here...more than once and why does DeKeyser apparently want to sign with the Wings after he finishes school next year?

Call yourself a real Wings fan and post garbage that Wild fans are gonna like....come on dude.  Have at least a little faith in a team that has the longest playoff streak in sports history and who between 1997 and 2008 gave us 4 Stanley Cups.

#2314964 Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

Posted by LeftWinger on 04 July 2012 - 03:45 PM

Suter can have been a part of our success for the next 13 years. He would have be an intricle part of our defense for the next 13 years...The Wings can a will win without him....unfortunately, he cannot win without us...if it were down to Nashville, Detroit or Minn, the obvious choice was Detroit....look at the track record, we never miss the playoffs, Holland has Iltich's wallet in his hand to make sure this remain competitve every year...are they Stanley Cup favorites every year? Of course not, but once you make the playoffs, anything can happen, and they make the playoffs....always....Minnesota doesn't.  3 appearances the last 11 years. ONCE past the 1st round... I don't need to quote Detroit's accolades in the last 11 years, but if ANYONE was or is worried about what will happen with Lidstrom gone, once Dats retires and Z retires....let's just look at what happened when we lost Yzerman, Shanahan, Fedorov, Hull, Robitaille, Hasek (the first time,) Konstantinov, Kozlov, Larionov....what happened since then?

Conference Finals
Stanley Cup Champion
Stanley Cup Runner Up
...and then a couple of early exits...

setback? Sure, but between 2002 and 2007 what happened?

1st round loss, 2nd round loss, 1st round loss...

Point is, the history has proven that Holland will always keep this team competitive EVERY year. Ilitch has an open wallet up to the Cap, every year!  Guarantee, they have a plan right now and if the feel the price is right, Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan will be on this team...if they chose the UFA route, they will pitch their best at Semin, Doan, Mueller, Winnick, et al...

Sure Suter would have helped, but now they have to persevere and find that next guy to help.  I'd give Carle $5M, inquire about Yandle or Bogosian or Bouwmeester... Holland will fill this team and will keep this team a perennial playoff team....history has proven this, and history has proven that Minnesota will not....especially now with half their Cap tied up in 5 guys...
