#2535044 Changes to the draft lottery system

Posted by DeGraa55 on 27 August 2014 - 03:50 PM

i propose giving the 1st. pick to the team that just missed out on the playoffs. (#17) then counting down from there. 18-19-20-etc...to 30 then picking back up at #16 to champs.
this would totally stop the tanking issues and promote the end of year games to actually mean something for winning.
this 17th place team would just miss out on revenue of playoffs...but the perk would be #1 overall.
now..the argument would begin that a team that has the opportunity to take the 8th seed or tank the game for the pick could come up...but the statistical opportunity would have to fall in place just right.

this would never happen...because the bottom teams would have a fit over getting screwed. but my response is then dont suck!
rewards for failure just bugs me. its like a field goal. "you tried...and came...kinda close..heres some feel good points" :w00t:

Terrible idea. Rich get richer and porter get poorer. Parity is a great thing in sports special when it comes to watching playoff hockey stuff like this would kill the NHL. Unless your goal is to go back to just the original 6.

#2535008 Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team

Posted by DeGraa55 on 27 August 2014 - 09:12 AM

Seattle, Quebec, and Toronto also getting new teams in 2017

Is that a joke, speculation, rumor, or fact? I hope it's a joke...

I agree with who lever said subtraction we should go down to 28 teams and relocate a couple.

#2534812 Datsyuk or Fedorov?

Posted by DeGraa55 on 22 August 2014 - 11:34 PM

Datsyuk much more complete player to me. Although I can not imagine the number Federov would have put up now.

Datsyuk who doesn't score many goals is more complete? I personally don't think so but to each their own...

#2534696 Zetterberg Foundation fundraiser

Down to earth guys, loaded with money who seem to really care about others not so lucky and REALLY wanting to help out no only when the cameras are there.

I'm no NBA fan at all but it's foolish to think only nhl players donate money to charity.

I hate lebron but you know "his decision" that was on Espn. All money made went to charity. So good did come from him stroking his ego.

I think this is pretty much right but I'm not too thrilled about it. I can't stand Abdelkader in the top 6.

I agree let's all sign a petition cleary on top line with euro twins!!!

#2534445 Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**

Posted by DeGraa55 on 17 August 2014 - 10:13 PM

"Tanking" implies losing on purpose.  Whether it's players underperforming, coaches using the wrong players or strategies, or management making moves to make the team worse, it's done with the intent of finishing lower in the standings and getting a higher draft pick.  Draft lotteries were invented to reduce the chances of this strategy working.  It was done more often in other sports, where high draft picks almost always become impact players right away.  The Indianapolis Colts' "Suck for Luck" season is one of the most recent examples.
The Red Wings did not tank to get Steve Yzerman, and there are two obvious reasons why: 1, the Wings had been terrible for almost two decades, making the playoffs twice in 17 years and only winning one series.  They didn't lose on purpose in "82-'83, they just couldn't win.  2, the Wings were heavily targeting local product Pat LaFontaine with the #4 pick, but he went #3 to the Islanders.  Yzerman was the consolation prize.

Tanking has been around for much longer than salary caps.  I think it's tougher to do today, between the cap and roster/player movement limitations.

Also, I think your "ready age" numbers are considerably off.  http://www.sbnation....es-age-analysis

So the colts losing the sexond best qb in football to injury had nothing to do with why they were bad. Teams have rebuilds like buffalo but even if they're bad I wouldn't consider it tanking. No coach or players would ever intentionally lose.

#2534442 Alfie wants to play

Posted by DeGraa55 on 17 August 2014 - 09:30 PM

..... Or, maybe play him exactly where he should start the season... In the minors, getting top line minutes, playing in all situations, gaining confidence...

I agree we all ready have a logjam at forward let him play all year in the ahl and if he lights it up...nhl in 15

#2533880 Predictions for the DRW 2014-15 Season!

Posted by DeGraa55 on 07 August 2014 - 10:11 PM

How is holland trying to win? Not letting Tatar and nyquist get their chance when they deserve it? Continues to bring back ok broken down players who provide little to nothing.

I personally dot have a problem with rebuilding or go balls in to win. But holland is just sitting on the fence doing a little of both and thats what bothers me most.

#2533879 Report: NHL to have 5 outdoor games in 2014-15.

I think it's a great idea and obviously fans of these teams do to. They deserve to get to experience it as well.

#2533586 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

Posted by DeGraa55 on 03 August 2014 - 12:45 AM

Kronwall finished 13th in Norris voting this year. That means he's ranked higher than 168 NHL D regulars among the theoretical 180. And that's on a team that was severely injured the entire season, with a weak D, and a goalie in a down year. If elite to you is top 10, cool. But that's good enough to me to not split hairs about it...

To me elite is like top 2 or 3 at that position. Like goalies. Elite we had guys like Brodeur Roy and hasek now it's henrik and quick.

So to me kronwall is very good but not elite.

We have 5 players over the age of 31.....Franzen (34), Zetterberg (33), Cleary (35), Kronwall (33) and Datsyuk (36) and 3 of those 5 are elite talents. Your statement makes it sound like our team is littered with older players who arent performing. We have two in Cleary and Franzen.

Kronwall elite? No. Elite is the best of the best too many people throw elite around too much.

#2533215 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

Little higher then what I was thinking. But I agree it's a good deal for both sides.

Something I've been thinking about:

Let's say we do, in fact, win the Cup within the next three or four years (i.e. while we still have Datsyuk). What does that roster look like, realistically?

Kind of hard to do. This roster won't win a cup. It'll involve FA and/or trades. But people need to be added.
