#2613457 2015 Draft

Posted by jimmyemeryhunter on 07 June 2015 - 07:42 PM

Just because Mcdavid didn't say the same thing as eichel, doesn't mean he doesn't think the exact same thing.

Don't you argue against how everyone has to be politically correct all the time too?
So who cares that he's confident in himself, if he didn't think he could be the best, he wouldn't be anywhere near as good as he is.

I don't have a problem with him being confident I mean heck he would be the 1 in almost every other draft with the exception of the Crosby and maybe Stamkos one.

The problem is Eichel said he will be better than McDavid and he believes he is the best - not one of - but the best player in the draft and that's cocky..he had to the chance to redeem himself a bit by saying "I let emotions get the better of me..So sorry I know this draft is full of great players and hopefully I can become one of them for Buffalo in the future...I will as hard as I can to achieve that goal and if that draws comparisons McDavid I would be very honored "

It's a much nicer tone instead of saying flat out that he is the best. For the record I think McDavid and Eichel will be super super stars but I don't think anyone can protect who the better player will be. Maybe it was just a bad choice of words for Eichel he'll learn hopefully.

I still think we should trade up, rather than trading back. We have a ton of depth at all positions, what we lack is elite talent. We're obviously not getting anywhere near the top 5, and likely not even within the top 10. However, if Zach Werenski is still available at 12, I would give Nill a call and see if he wants to make a trade. I would offer up a package of something like our 2015 1st round pick (19th overall), 2016 2nd round pick, Xavier Ouellet for their 2015 1st round pick (12th overall).

I would then select Werenski in the 1st round and Matthew Spencer in the 2nd round.

Abby scored 20+ goals last season and you want him on the fourth line?

We gotta make room in the top six for a 20+ goal scoring power forward, who's big, gritty, and plays in the hard areas.  Once we get Abby out of there the only problem will be finding a guy like that.

I've always liked Abby but I think there are players with more potential to put in the top 6 with Datsyuk and Zetterberg. I also think he's too good for the bottom six. Perhaps he could be good trade bait.

I'd trade half a dozen guys on this team rather than Abby.  The NHL is a man's league, and Abby plays a big boy game.

Trade Nyquist or Pulkkinen before you trade Abby.  He's practically the only guy on our team who A) can score goals, and B) isn't a complete pantywaist.

If anything we need more guys like him (Drew Stafford anyone?), not less.

Mike Smith lost his kid in a freak train accident.

Did he get the whistle?

Mike Smith would throw his own baby in front of a train if he thought it would get him a whistle or draw a penalty.

All I heard was lower body injury.

Lower body is so vague, it may as well mean he has crabs.

#2584222 The Futures of Tatar & Nyquist

congrats on being the only one to actually answer the question.

Hey, I answered it too, and much more succinctly. :)

I would say that I think Detroit will not be in that same situation is because Ken Holland will not let his salary cap get out of control again.  Hudler left them once before for more money (to the KHL(which really soured me on him)) and then he was looking for top dollar again when he signed in Calgary. (by this time everyone wanted him gone so it was no big loss) So he was just looking for the biggest payday he could find.  When Filppula left, the going rate for a 2nd line center was through the roof and Holland's plan for the rest of the team (I believe that was the same year he went balls out for Suter) didn't have any room left under the cap for that going rate.  Holland will not let the cap control him again, he will contiue to grow his own talent, pay them accordingly and if the time comes where they are just looking for the payday and they no longer fit in the team cap structure, that is when he will lose them.

BUT, by the time Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha and Larkin are all in their primes here, we will no longer have to contracts of Dats, Z, Weiss and Franzen. Plus the hopes that the Cap increases slightly every year will also help.  By the time Ouellet, Sproul, Marchenko, Dekeyser are all in their prime, Kronner, Ericsson will be gone off the books or on their last small career contracts.  Same goes for Mrazek, by the time he is ready for that elilte contract, s*** stain's contract will be off the books.  I know Mrazek is a RFA soon, but I think he still has that one bridge contract he'll sign before his big one.

Holland has enough young talent spread apart from each other to where he probably won't have to worry too much about having 5-6 stars making top dollar all at the same time.

IMO, there are only two scenarios where he may lose ANY of his "kids." 1. They just don't want to be here, or 2. He trades them.  Like I said, the reason's Hudler and Fil left were more to do with wanting (some say deserving) more money than Holland had available without crippling his team.  Kenny will not let his cap get that close again.
