If you willing leave the Wings - the freaking Detroit Red Wings - for Europe, good riddance. We can argue all day about what time he should have got and what management should have done, but at the end of the day there are two types of players. Guys who will jump ship when things get bad for them, and guys who will grit their teeth and work that much harder to get to the top. Unfortunately, deserved or not, Backman was the former. I'd rather have the Tatars and Nyquists, who put their noses to the grind stone and fought for their spots than the Backmans of the world. Goodluck to him in Sweden.
Sign me to a week's contract. When WE (LOL) get in the inevitable shootout I'll go first and at least all the fans will have a huge laugh as I skate on my ankles on a forever torn ACL towards the opposing goalie. I'll make an awkward move as I go from R to L and suddenly (I wasn't going THAT fast to begin with) pop back right for a shot. I'd either likely miss or if I made it the opposing goalie would quit the league and the team would be so inspired they'd win the Cup.
Just let me pick the music one night and I'll have Karen Newman ride on my lap as I resurface the ice on the Zamboni Al's not driving and save the money.
I think this is disgraceful for the Devils. And I'm not blaming Marty. I'm blaming Lou. Everyone I know from New Jersey thinks Lou is great (Maybe I just know the wrong fans) but IMO he's mismanaged that team for years. The whole Kovy situation. Losing Parise. Losing Clarkson (for better or worse). And now cold shouldering the face of the franchise. Shameful. This just makes me that much prouder to be a wing. Maybe we hold onto old men a little while longer than we should, but the wings have certainly exhibited the utmost level of loyalty, respect, and classiness. Even if we don't always win, I'm proud that our organization operates in the highest level of standards.
I haven't been following this site in a while, but are you guys watching the same wings as me?? Of course they can contend!
They get solid point contributions from 3 lines and their defense
Powerplay looks good
Pk looks good
Coaching obviously is good
Goaltending looks really good
They're grittier than last year
They have the ability to come back in games
They don't give up leads like they did last year
They've avoided the injury bug for the most part
Secondary guys have stepped up when our top guys have been hurt
And most importantly, they play really well against good teams!

He's an idiot? Really?
I can't speak for anyone else, but the last person in this world I'd expect to screw me over financially is my mother. It's one thing to be awful with money, but what they did with his money goes beyond being financially irresponsible - they milked the **** out of him. They treated him like a cash cow and ran his debt into the ground. The amount they spent/lost has more to do with their greed and taking advantage of a situation than it does with making smart decisions. Disgusting on their part.
