#2524160 Dan Cleary may return...sigh

How does that saying go?  "If you love someone, set it free.  If it returns to you, lock the doors & don't take any of his agent's calls."

#2523608 Trading up?

Franzen would enjoy playing in Florida.  Hopefully, their scouts haven't seen a Wings game since 2010.

#2523168 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

I don't understand why so many people are eager to get rid of Lashoff.

He's 23 years old with one full NHL season under his belt.  He won't set the world on fire, but he's big, pretty physical, and has a cap hit of $725,000 for the next two seasons.

Lashoff will likely improve and will look better when the whole blueline gets more stability.  He's worth keeping around for a couple seasons to see if he at least settles into a big physical bottom pairing guy.

Kindl however, needs to go.  The bummer is he's signed for three more years at $2.4 millions.

I agree with this.  We've got the cap and roster flexibility to be aggressive this year and I think we should be.  My priorities are as follow (I'm trying to be realistic in terms of value and only acquiring guys who are believed to be available):

1.  Trade Smith, Helm, and our 1st for Ryan Kesler.

2.  Trade Franzen and Andersson for RJ Umberger and a 2nd.

3.  Sign Niskanen (5 years, 5.5 million)

4.  Sign Fedor Malykhin to a two way contract.

5.  Kindl can go too, for a late pick, and replaced with a vet d-man if you felt like finding one (I didn't bother on this).

#2521817 Mantha named CHL player of the year

Posted by darkmanx on 26 May 2014 - 08:47 PM

I think a lot of fans see comparisons to a Hall of Fame caliber player, or they read what a prospect could develop into, they don't take into account that most players don't reach their full potential.  Some are complete busts and never see the NHL.  Others have decent careers, but never reach what their top end potential was projected to be-guys like Bonk, Anders Ericsson, Smid, and Upshall.  It's more likely that Mantha puts up Fraznen type numbers than he turn into some perennial All-Star power forward.

#2521538 Abdelkader ejected for "vicious" hit at World Championships

was that justin abdelkader or james harrison?

James Harrison got fined for Abdelkader's hit.

Yeah, yeah, I know... old joke.

#2521001 Hindsight Drafting (2005-2012)

Posted by DickieDunn on 17 May 2014 - 05:37 PM

Not that anyone has done this yet, but I kind of laugh when people bring up how other teams are built through the draft, then you look at their top players and they're almost all drafted in the top 10.  Then you look at Detroit.  Their top few scorers other than Alfredsson were drafted 121, 210, 97, 60, and 171 overall, their top 3 D 29, 291, and undrafted, and their starting goalie was taken 64th.  That's one player of their top 9 players taken in the first round.  The Pens, on the other hand, have gotten almost nobody outside of the top 5 in the last dozen years.

#2519801 Will Mantha join GR after the QMJHL playoffs?

Posted by number9 on 09 May 2014 - 12:24 AM

I'd pay Ovechkin $30M a year just to bomb it from his sweet spot on our power play.

And I'd pay Datsyuk $10M a year to actually play hockey

#2518979 Grand Rapids Griffins - defend the cup

Posted by drumnj on 02 May 2014 - 09:26 PM

Griffins move on to the next round, and for the 2nd year in a row has their opponent's last game ever played end on their home ice....in the first round.

Pulk with a heck a slapper.  Hogan with 2.  Sheahan with 1 and Ferraro with an EN.

#2517514 NHL lacks class.

Posted by canadalefty on 27 April 2014 - 12:56 AM

I've been a 'Wings fan for 33years. The Red Wings have played with class, dignity and style for so many years, and it makes me proud to be a wings fan! Watching this year's playoffs has been disgusting, from Duncan Keith's "wakey, wakey" taunting of the obviously concussed David Backes, after two, vicious, non called slashes, one of them on Backes(probably having him hear"footsteps", setting up Seabrook), and Matt Cooke, not much needs to be said there, how about Marchand and his "which leg did I hurt?" moment. There is no point to a regular season if it is no holds barred in the post season. I'd rather watch my team get bounced in the first round, than watch them play with no class and make it to the finals. Detroit has won championships by staying classy, and I'm OK waiting until they can win with class, not the garbage that Boston and Chicago feel fits their fans! I grew up in Ken Holland's hometown, my Dad was close with his Dad, all class acts, there is pride in winning with integrity, pride is nonexistent without integrity!

STAY CLASSY DETROIT!!

The first question is Babcock. he has 1 year left on his current deal. Does he extend or is he going to retire/leave?

I think he stays the one year and then steps aside for Blashill.

#2515559 ECQF - Game 4 - Bruins 3 at Red Wings 2 (F/OT)

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 24 April 2014 - 10:18 PM

Thisf****** sucks. Good effort tonight and still nothing to show for it. I wish someone would paralyze Lucic and Marchand.

If only we had a player on our team that has experience with something like that.
