Wes McCauley is a patient referee with very sound judgment. He is not one to overreact. I can guarantee that there was way too much being said from the penalty box, the players' bench and on the ice by the Penguin players that resulted in the unsportsmanlike conduct and misconduct penalty that was assessed to Kunitz at the end of the period. There was absolutely no need for Kunitz to go out of his way to slide the puck in the direction of referee McCauley who was standing at the Zamboni entrance waiting to exit the ice. When players engage in excessive whining and complaining, as it appeared the Penguins did in the first period, the referee will stop the 'drip' and shut off the tap by imposing a penalty. Teams can develop a reputation for whining no differently than players do for diving and embellishment.
The Penguins have earned the undesirable reputation with several of the referees for having too much to say. As a team, they need to turn off the tap on their own as they move toward the playoffs. The referees' patience has already worn thin.
DETROIT – Pavel Datsyuk has done it before, taking replaceable fourth liners and making them into valuable additions to the Red Wings’ top scoring line.
His latest reclamation project is Luke Glendening, the gritty fourth-line center who has arguably been the team’s most trustworthy penalty killer this season.
“Pav wanted someone to work,” coach Mike Babcock said when asked about Glendening’s ascent. "He’s the guy who said ‘Put Glennie with me.’ So I put Glennie with him.”
Glendening is the latest bottom-six forward to join Datsyuk on the Wings’ top line, following Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm, amongst others, who in the past worked as reliable puck retrievers for the Magic Man.
I'm for whatever configuration of players helps us win. If Luke can do that better on the first than the fourth, I'm fine with it. I'm skeptical he could keep it up. But if he did, I'd stick with what works. Seems like all too often we want the team to win, but specifically with the guys we like contributing in the ways we want. But that's wrong headed. If we were a better team with Luke on the first and Tatar on the fourth, then that's what we ought to do.
Soooo you don't like posts like this then...lol It still hurts to read...
I hate Franzen anyway, and I especially hate him on the top line. Nyke should be there and that is where I am starting him.
Nyke - Dats - Z
Weiss - Leggy - Alfie
Fish - Tinky - Abby
Franzine - Barbie - Miller
(Andy - Ferraro - Dirty Harry)
Kronner - Big E
Smitty - UFA (Morris)
Diesel - UFA (Mitchell)
That's 24 players with Glenny and Jurx stating GR. Trading Kindl (no so) Fire and Almost Almqvist for a couple of picks. If you feel the pinch of a lower cap, then Andy can be packaged as well, or maybe sign bit cheaper D-man instead of one of Mitchell or Morris. Unless you'd want to roll the dice on Marchenko and only sign Morris.
This was a great rant...lol
Not only do I log onto LGW at least once per day and have never heard Callahan referred to as Dirty Harry, but LGW isn't meant to cater exclusively to hardcore forum posters. Nicknames are supposed to make it easier to discuss the team, not to prove how funny and clever you are. Making up nicknames that no one else uses is obnoxious and unnecessary. Watch...
It looks like Yellow Mustard is going to miss some time after catching that elbow last night against the Sabres. Its really bad timing too, because our defense already thin with Big Poppa out with a concussion and Bandit serving his 5 game suspension. I would say this forces us to call up someone from GR, most likely Billy the Kid or The Player Formerly Known As Steve. We might be in trouble on the back end until we get some regulars back, since this leaves the Boogeyman as our #1 defenseman. And you know what that means!!!!
So do some of you guys even want to win or what? Kenny gave up 2 prospects who likely were never going to see time in the winged wheel. Cole is 36, have you seen him play? He's not Bertuzzi. He can still skate as well as he ever did, and plays a physical power game.
Mrazek with a 2nd straight shutout and 3rd in 4 games. Meile up to 3rd in AHL scoring, Ferraro tied for 2nd in goals (though he's played more games than the guys he's tied with). Griffins have won 8 in a row, 10-0-2 in their last 12. The team has really turned things around from the early season struggles.
Melen is always hurt. He seems to have good skill at lower levels, bit he can't stay in the lineup long enough to prove anything. I'd be real surprised to see him inGR. Janmark seems like a good bet though.
