So you would prefer a system where only a few teams are good, and where the highest draft picks go to the best teams? What is the point of the of even having small market teams? With that philosophy, you may as well downsize to a 20 team league. I don't see anything "mediocre" about today's NHL. I wouldn't call teams like Chicago and LA mediocre.
I prefer a system where the teams that do things the right away are rewarded for what they have done. It has nothing to do with small market, lots of small market teams have been successful because they build a franchise properly without bail outs from the league. a 20 team league is pushing it but the fact they are talking about adding more teams is ludicrous. Parity is so typcial of today's society, no one wants to hurt anyone's feelings so they try to make everyone equal If you suck and can't do things right you suck...end of story. I didn't say the highest draft picks should go to the best teams but it needs to be changed in a way that the top teams don't get penalized for being good every year. Of course Chicago isn't mediocre but LA missed the playoffs last year. Look at this year, we have Washington, Chicago and maybe you can put Dallas in there but after that it's 25+ teams within 6-8 points of each other followed by the usual bottom feeders. I like domination at the top, I like dynasty's ( depending on what your meaning of that is ). I like it when the really good teams crush the bad teams.
