#2486857 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Posted by DickieDunn on 26 February 2014 - 01:24 PM

Marty St. Louis has requested a trade from the #Lightning, Newsday confirmed. - Sam Carchidi

Asked for doesn't mean he'll get it.  The Lightning are in a playoff run, they're not going to trade St. Louis if they don't get a good package back that will benefit them this year and going forward.

#2486840 2014 draft thoughts.

Pumpkin. You brought up jarnkrok. Some thoughts. 1. he is always the smallest guy on the ice, regardless of what they list him at. 2. he is already 22-turns 23 this year. 3. He is being outproduced by that offensive dynmo Emmerton, and Cory has played 20 fewer games than jarnkrok has.

Yes he has some more time-2 more years. But to date I don't see anything that screams star or even above average NHL player.

Sa,e with frk and Tvardon. yes both have talent and produced to Junior. But that is not pro hockey were neither has made much impact yet. Again, first year for Frk and he has 2 more years to make or break it.

Point is, at some point potential has to turn into production.

One last thing. Little Tuzzi is done for the year. Same injury as last year-concussion/neck injury. Cleaned out his locker and is in Detroit for medical evals. This could be a long term/career ending thing. It is serious.

Jarnkrok has 13 points in his last 13 games and is finally starting to adjust to the NA rink. Since it's his first year here let's cut him some slack.

There's a reason he's been touted as our top prospect for the last couple years.

Also Tvrdon amd Frk are in their first pro years.  For someone who is so consumed by fantasy and future you sure don't seem to have much patience.

Any source on Bertuzzi "career ending injury". Thats quite the statement.

@AnsarKhanMLive: Holland said he will not sell at the trade deadline. Would like to make a hockey trade if possible. Trade that helps now and in future.

@AnsarKhanMLive: Holland won't trade a top prospect for a rental he said.

He shouldn't trade a top prospect for a rental, not necessarily trade a guy just to get a pick if it's going to hurt the chances of making the playoffs.  I don't think dumping Quincey would be a big deal, and certainly if he can get a pick for Cleary or Bertuzzi he should, but anything else should be something that improves the team for this year and going forward.

sit back and watch the "best coach in the league" bring us to the playoffs.

Snow wants a first + A level prospect + B level prospect for a rental no way teams are going to give that up for ~ 2 months of Vanek.

I'm sure he will find a taker; desperate teams overpay constantly. Remember the Gaustad trade? First rounder for a fourth line center, crazy.

Let us not forget Holland DID acquire Dominik Hasek via trade.

to BUF: Vyacheslav Kozlov, 2002 1st round pick.

to DET: Dominik Hasek, 2002 Stanley Cup

...Holland had some balls back then (especially since it meant he had to waive fan favorite Chris Osgood) so maybe he can find them again and make that deal for a top line defender... I sure wish Nashville wanted to get rid of Weber's contract...

It has nothing to do with balls: then vs now

That trade was easy for Holland. 1st rounders meant nothing to Detroit in the pre-cap era. In fact, Buffalo basically gave Hasek to the Wings. Plus the Wings were elite. Contenders year in and year out.So when a team like Buffalo does the classy thing and gives Hasek a chane to win, he goes to either Detroit, Colorado, Jersey. Those other teams had Roy and Broduer. So......

Holland is way more reluctant to part with draft picks or prospects of any kind these days. Why? Because he has lost his balls? Or because they are far more valuable now than they were back then?

Helene St. James ‏@HeleneStJames 2h
Bobby Ryan off to Ottawa. #RedWings had little interest in Ryan, none after lackluster performance in this year's playoffs against them.

That's wrote as fact not opinion.

If I say "you're an idiot," that's written as a fact, not an opinion.  Does it make it true?

Helene St. Lame is one of the worst "reporters" out there.

#2485389 Red Wings should target Clarkson

Posted by DickieDunn on 20 February 2014 - 08:50 AM

Clarkson scored what he did by a combination of luck and the Devils PP strategy being "bank the puck in off Clarkson."  He does nothing to create offense, isn't that great of a skater, and plays a style that doesn't lend itself to a long career.  Even if he had 2 or 3 good years, that's a horrendously bad contract.

We like our team

I like the team, I'm just not sure I LIKE like the team, and I really question whether or not I love the team.

#2483913 If we become sellers...

I don't think Alfie came here to win a Cup. He packed up his family and moved to Detroit. He bought a house. He went all in on a long term life change to come here. He's not going to want to be traded. I think he just wanted to play for a solid team with good management where all the pressure isn't on him. I don't think he's retiring this year, either. He still wants to play but recognizes he's not the number one guy anymore.

I don't think he wants to be a floating mercenary like Jagr and Iginla.

Agreed.  Also, if he wants to re-sign here for another year... I think it's a no-brainer.

I'm not gonna freak out and start making a list of possible returns for Daniel Alfredsson. But I do think this might have to be the year that we actually do something of real worth at the deadline. Our blue line sucks, Franzen is out indefinitely, Zetterberg is out indefinitely, and Datsyuk is going at 50-75% (and the only reason he's playing at all is that it's Sochi and he's Russia's captain). On top of that, our goaltending hasn't been where it needs to be. All things considered, we might be looking at another major push just to make the playoffs, and possibly without Howard being a wall and Zetterberg throwing the team on his...back. *cringe*

If he hadn't tweaked it in the Olympic game, he would have tweaked it in the next Wings game.

Again I ask: Why are we acting like there's no two-week vacation option? Is it inconceivabe that taking a two-week vacation might've done Z's back some real good, or at the very least been infinitely kinder and easier on it than...playing in the Olympics? Why is it "Destroy back in Olympics or destroy back in the same way when the NHL resumes?" There are steps players can take to combat and minimize injury woes and risks. We're acting like the very concept of "maintenance days" is stupid because "Well, he's gonna get hurt anyway. Why bother resting up?"

I think had he not been named captain of the Swedish team, there's a reasonable chance he might not have gone. Same with Datsyuk. So, what I'm saying is, being captain sucks.

Its appropriate to mention that a lot of his pain is probably due to the fact that per IIHF rules he cant use cortison shots, which i'm assuming he was using to stem the pain and function these past couple weeks.

Yep, this is definitely worth considering. (Not sarcasm.)

It's all a little pointless. With our cap situation and all our overpaid valueless vets, we're not going to trade for anyone. It would involve moving someone of current or future potential to clear cap space and Ken won't do that. Even trading someone like Smith wouldn't work. We could get someone who's better NOW, but he'll likely have a higher salary than Smith. So yeah no trades this season

Edler Edler Edler. He does a little bit of everything but moves the puck very well. He's struggling with Torts, so we could add him for cheap if they'll move him. He needs to be among our better swedes so he can reinvent himself in Detroit.

What do you mean by add him for cheap?

EDIT: nvm, you probably meant in the offseason after the Wings unload their free agents.
