#2501764 3/27 GDT - Canadiens 5 vs. Red Wings 4

Calling Glendening's first today.

#2500724 3/25 GDT - Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 4

Does anyone else hate having Andersson on the wing as much as I do?  Slow and doesn't score...awesome.  He's good defensively and at faceoffs, I get it, but if he's not going to play center (where those things matter) then why bother?

As much as you hate him on the wing, I hate him even more on the Power Play. What the hell is Babs doing putting him out there? The only reason I can think of is, with Bert out he needs someone slow to take his place. I mean the guy had more power play time then Franzen last game, let's hope that it doesn't continue this game.

#2499511 Kassian on the way out of Van?

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 23 March 2014 - 11:14 AM

I guess Probert would never be on the RW for most here..... So sad......

Pretty much.  People have become so used to our softness that they refuse to accept a player that occasionally goes over the edge.

Probert wasn't known as a cheap hitter, but he did some dirty stuff in his career like every tough guy.

Nice strawman you guys are building.  Not wanting Kassian doesn't equal hating guys who play with an edge.

Kassian hasn't "occasionally gone over the edge."   He's been suspended for dirty plays multiple times in multiple leagues and he's only 23 years old.  It's not like we're talking about players like Backes or Doan here.

#2500437 Callahan called up from GR.....

Posted by wings87 on 24 March 2014 - 02:47 PM

Ya his speed and size reminds me of Jan Mursak.. or maybe thats just because he is right handed. But I hope he doesn't follow the same trajectory. Wings keep burying him, something happens so they can keep him on the roster and then eventually he gets to old to be a prospect anymore and they cut ties.

Now that you mentioned Mursak, I definitely see the resemblance.

#2500401 Callahan called up from GR.....

Unfortunately Ferraro proved why he had not been called up yet. While we have had numerous great storylines of young kids taking their piece of the pie, Ferraro was not one of them. Nor was Pulkinen fro that matter (but this is his first yr in NA and he is a scorer who needs minutes, whole different scenario). Heres to hoping Callahan plays with a burr in his saddle and makes some noise.

Sheahan, Nyquist, and Tatar grabbed all their piece of the pie after being invited to dinner three times. All three have played in games dating back to the 11-12 season. In fact, only Jurco really made his case with his first shot this year.

Although I don't have high hopes for him, this was only Ferraro's first shot. Just thought I'd point that out.

#2500344 Around The League - Eastern Conference Playoff Race

Posted by VM1138 on 24 March 2014 - 09:42 AM

I have lived through two SCF with my now wife (at that time Fiancee) with us playing Pitt. We barely survived Thursday, unless the trip to the Cup Finals were on the line I would prefer to not play Pitt.

On a random side note, we were seated next to Bert's wife on Thursday and she is about the sweetest woman I have ever met. Also got exceptionally into the game and was high fiving me with every score.

I hate picking poison but if we're healthy I don't see why Pittsburgh is so scary. We know we can shut Crosby down with Z. We have the depth to keep scoring even with Datsyuk and Z focusing on shutting down Malkin and Crosby. Their defense is iffy (as is ours), their goalies flaky and they melt down in the playoffs without the excuses we've had the past few years.

I'm not really too scared about any Eastern team over 7 games, as long as we're healthy. But again, I hate to get cocky and start dismissing teams but Pittsburgh wouldn't be a bad matchup.

I'm not sure what it is with people on these boards wanting to pick up Vancouver's scraps. But I would pass unless it cost us literally nothing.

#2496458 Here Is A Hint For Wings To Catch Playoff [ new ]

Posted by detroitredwings2014 on 18 March 2014 - 12:28 PM

agree or not ...

wings has too many foward star player now ...

only 2 part they are not sucess is

1 - goalie

2 - defense

if they add 2 more defense expert can score

if they add new goalie can save

i believe they can get to final semi playoff ...

#2497480 Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

Posted by wings87 on 20 March 2014 - 03:29 PM

When you consider only 1 rookie got injured and that was due to a crosscheck to the ribs that would have happened to anyone I think the lesson to be learned is that our young talent is reliable, robust, and deserves roster spots in the future. Re-signing Bert, Cleary, Sammy who have all been injured often is so ridiculous when they hardly play anymore and when they do they are nursing some injury. Quincey, while I don't want him re-signed, has at least been healthy somehow.

You had to go there? Haven't we learned anything this season on LGW...? You can't say players are healthy, it never ends well. face-slap.gif

Malykhin?

This years Brunner. His favorite player is Datsyuk.

KHL player, 23, 5'11" 200lbs, a center, & from the same town as Pavs.  And here's where a comment about counting chickens comes into play.

Naturally

This is the first time I've ever seen that name mentioned.  Is he rumored to the Wings somehow?

He's 22 undrafted. Basically exploded this year in the KHL. Every NHL team will be fielding him offers, but he's rumored to the Red Wings because Datsyuk is his idol.

*Obligatory Kassian mention*

#2497226 Gustav Nyquist Appreciation Thread

Posted by kipwinger on 19 March 2014 - 08:59 AM

I'll say this, I did not realize how fast Nyquist was until last night.  I knew he was quick, but not fast like that.  It was appropriate that we played the Leafs last night because Nyquist looked A LOT like Phil Kessel in terms of his explosive first strides and quick wrister.  Kid is fast.

Thought it might be a good time to bring this up again. Kids been awesome this year and has been most of our offense lately. Leading the team in goals and 4th in points with 35 in 43 games in his first "full" season. He's got confidence and is turning into a leader on this team. Way to go, Goose!

Edit: double posted

#2496284 Red Wings sign college FA Colin Campbell

Posted by Richdg on 17 March 2014 - 07:37 PM

Would love to see us pick up Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Also lets add Barcley Goodrow to play LW. He is 6-2/215 has 30 goals for North bay and was at our prospect camp last summer.

#2495559 Fedor Malykhin

Wings are deep at center, especially when/if we get healthy. But if this kid is willing to come to camp and try out go for it. It would be great to have him as an emergency call up at some point (like when helm gets hurt again) but I just don't see the Wings having space for him right now, maybe in a year or two unfortunately.

His khl contract isn't up until after next season anyway.
So.
Who knows.
