Cole is essentially what the Wings hope Abby becomes. Scored 35 goals with MTL in 2012 and has won a cup. He is a great skater too, you'll notice both Z, Weiss, and Holland have commented on his speed and skating for a guy his size. Great pickup for the cost of the market right now. Could be the difference making it further in the playoffs for us. Haters gonna hate on here bc thats what they do but it was a great two days for the organization.
Hard to argue with the decision here. The cap hit speaks for itself. He basically is making minimum when earlier this year we put him out to shut down crosby. Is he the best player on the ice, no. Does he add heart and grit, yes. Reminds me of draper, but I think he will get moved to the wing. Basically I think he will end up being a more infuriating, cheaper, Drew Miller.
IMO he is becoming what Babs wanted fil to become when he moved him to wing. Nyquist is the definition of a coaches player right now. Babs told him in order to be effective he needs to shoot and now Gus fires the puck instead of looking for the pass almost everytime. and now he's producing....
I legitimately feel bad for the leafs. I want all original six teams to be the best six teams in the league. I enjoy the rivarly, i want them to be worse then the wings but still good. Its unfortunate their managment is a hot bag of poop
My problem with Ovi is he has the god given ability to be a dominant hockey player everywhere on the ice. He has the size, the speed, the agility, the strength, the hands, and the shot. But all you ever see him do it wait at the blue line, go to the slot, and rip it. and occasionally throw a check.
I mean, I definitely don't think he looked terrible. I just think he looked like he was in a bit over his head, like Sheahan did in call ups the first couple of years. The good thing for Ferraro is the fact that he's got legit NHL speed. If he can keep his focus on defense and pk he'll have a job just because he can skate.
Ya his speed and size reminds me of Jan Mursak.. or maybe thats just because he is right handed. But I hope he doesn't follow the same trajectory. Wings keep burying him, something happens so they can keep him on the roster and then eventually he gets to old to be a prospect anymore and they cut ties.
So here is my two cents. I originally hated this trade. I thought Jarkrok was too good of a prospect to get rid of at this point in time. However, it basically came down to.. was Jarkrok worth letting go in order for us to have a best shot at making the playoffs? Jarkrok is good and IMO he will have a solid NHL career but this trade makes our team better today. If we get healthy and make the playoffs we have a fantastic forward core. (don't think we will get healthy but its a gamble the brass took). I think Legwand is a babcock type player and will fit in well here. He drives play towards the net and I absolutely hated him as a wings fan because he scored big goals against us and was for lack of a better term a pest. He fills a need today by sacrificing talent down the road. The team that takes the ice tomorrow will be better than the team that would have otherwise. So. I am content with this. Not thrilled, not mad.
One guy that I believe could be available and gotten for mid tier prospects and picks is steve ott. I think Ott would be a great fit on this team, especially if Z is out for a long period of time. I don't think we would have to leverage the farm to get him either. I think it would cost us something like andersson, pulkinenen (terrible spelling), almquist and middle of the road picks.
Its appropriate to mention that a lot of his pain is probably due to the fact that per IIHF rules he cant use cortison shots, which i'm assuming he was using to stem the pain and function these past couple weeks.
