#2530500 Marchenko

Posted by Euro_Twins on 07 July 2014 - 08:57 PM

I'm hoping this positive experience with Marchenko will warm the Wings to taking more Russian born players. I think we have passed on some real talent in the past due to the russian factor.

Which sucks considering some of my favorite players were Russians. Attitude or not, they got s*** done!

I don't see the Quincey trade as "backfiring"....I know he's a favorite whipping boy around here, but like him or not...we've had two years of top six defense play for the #19 draft pick.  It would typically take several years to get the player you pick at 19 to give you two years of NHL play

lol "top six defense" there are only 6 dmen on any given night, thats like calling someone a top 12 forward. and most nights it is a stretch to even call him "top 6"

Good point about Babcock...until he is gone, this team is stuck in a rut.  Legwand waived his NTC because he wanted to play here, but after what Babcock did to him, he bolted.  Babcock is the issue why no good UFA wants to come here...and its no secret why Canada is going in a different direction for their Olympic team next time.

Ya those gold medals he won were awful. And legwand bolted because of babs and not because Holland didn't want to re sign him right?

I got a bridge to sell if you're interested

#2530206 TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

Posted by Euro_Twins on 06 July 2014 - 12:24 AM

Would I rather be the Red Wings and make the playoffs every year, but not win the Cup every single year or be Edmonton, Buffalo, NYI, Florida, Carolina, Toronto, etc. who have "tanked it" for years now and are still no closer to a Stanley Cup than the Red Wings?  Damn right I would.
"Tanking it" is no guarantee of anything.  The Wings already re-tooled "on the fly" once and made it back to win one cup and almost a second.
Edmonton, Carolina, Tampa, amongst other teams, all had Stanley Cups on their resume and quickly became non playoff teams.  Chicago and LA are more the exception than the rule.  Talent doesn't always translate into wins.  There is much more to it than that.
No team, in any sport, competes for a championship every single year for decades at a time.

We have 23 straight playoffs appearances and 4 cups in that time.

The Bruins made the playoffs 29 straight times and won 2 cups in that time

Blackhawks had 28 straight playoffs appearances and 0 cups in that time

The blues 25 straight. 0 cups

Canadiens 24 straight. 8 cups

Every other one is below us in playoffs streaks. So aside from Montreal and their unreal streak I would say our playoff streak and cup wins in that time is right up there and better than anyone but Montreal. So Ya we've stumbled a bit recently but we've done well for ourselves.

No dude, there's no sugar coating this one. We got crushed. We got decimated. We got embarrassed. 5 goals in 5 games is straight up shut down.

The Bruins down right outplayed us in every single game and if it wasn't for a tremendous amount of posts and whiffed shots on open nets (ahem, Marchand), the score would have been a massacre.

Out of all the playoff series, including Tampa bay, I honestly would say ours was the most one sided. There was never a doubt in anyone's mind Boston would lose this.

If you can't see this for what it is, than your rose colored glasses are as bright as Holland's.

Ummm Tampa was swept and never stood a chance without bishop. They were more one sided than ours.

I honestly think they are trying to build and maintain a culture here where players feel safe and appreciated.  Where if they have go through a slump, they won't fear being traded or instantly replaced.
Obviously they go to extremes at times.(Cleary) But sometimes the message sent can have a more profound impact down the road than the immediate repercussions.
I'm sure many believe that fear can motivate a player but I don't think that's a stable way of doing business.  I just don't see us trading roster players unless there's an issue with attitude or commitment or just too many bodies.
We definitely struck out this year in free agency.  No looking past that.  That's on management.  Injuries...that's a tough thing to place blame on.

I blame it on trainers and conditioning coaches

#2530153 Can Z and Pav do anything to protest? (not that they would)

Try watching Hank's post game after being eliminated by the Bruins and tell me that's not a player on the verge of wanting out.

I did and his interview after. He was upset after losing to Boston in his first game back. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He was much more optimistic about the teams future in the next interview.

Last season, Buff scored 56 points in 78 games, 256 shots, 213 hits and 80 blocked shots. For someone that plays that physical, still managed under 100 PIM.
Just saying, heavy point shot PP guy that rips it on net a LOT, will take the body and put up points like a top 6 forward, i'll take him in a second. Sounds like he has a lot of attributes we were severely lacking last season, especially in playoffs.

I heard he's good at hot dog eating competitions too!

Do you even watch the wings? Like I'm not tryig to be mean...but really. Do you not remember ANDERSON as our top line center? What caused that? Injuries. The same injury prone players being injured and you think it's going to change this year why?

Why do you think year after year when the same players are injured Itll change this year? Legwand is just a cheap insurance policy that we now wont have.

Logically speaking. I highly doubt all those players will be injured at the same time again, and with z having that surgery he may not even miss very many games now this year.

#2529320 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Posted by Euro_Twins on 02 July 2014 - 07:52 AM

So. After a night's sleep on this I have come to realise one thing. If I tried to ignore all the posts I didn't like in this thread, I'd be left with virtually nothing to read.
Seriously though, everyone really does need to just chill. We've still got a very good, competitive team that will see improvement from our kids (both at forward and D), hopefully a return to form from our number 1 goalie, hopefully a healthy season from Weiss and a full season from Datsyuk and Z. That alone should get us a good solid seeding for the playoffs. I'll bet on that.
Yes the Quincey move does look a little panicked, but I still believe that he had a solid second half (I saw it with my own eyes after all, and I'm sure several others did). The thing with a D man like Quincey is, that when he is playing well, you don't notice he's there, such that if anyone asked you if he had a solid second half, you wouldn't be able to remember because he never did anything spectacularly good or bad.
There is, in my opinion, absolutely no reason to panic, because we haven't had a losing season since 1991. I don't need to sit here and regurgitate the facts. But the point is, I could understand if people were being defeatist and calling for KH's head if we had a horrendous season, but the fact, is, we didn't. By all accounts it was a good season, if not miraculous. And we saw the future develop right before us that I believe will be our core for years to come. They might not contain the next D or Z, but let's face it, when those guys were rookies, did anyone ever envisage them turning into the stars they are today?
The point is, this team didn't get any worse at all this offseason. In fact, it got better as the kids will have another year's worth of season and playoff experience, we;ll be healthy again (touch wood), and we subtracted some old worn out parts (Bertuzzi, Samuelsson - and hopefully Cleary but that remains to be seen). Oh yea, and we've got Mantha turning pro, and several kids in GR ready to step in and actually challenge for jobs in training camp.
So why all the doom and gloom? There is actually a lot to like about this teams future.

We did have a horrendous season. Barely making it into the playoffs. All the injuries. Goaltending and defense issues. What part of the season was miraculous? Just because nyquist went on an absolute tear in the last half doesn't make it a miraculous season. In fact it shows how bad we were that one (basically rookie) had to carry our team. Holland can talk about us needing that right hand shot on the blue line all he wants. Until he actually does something useful for once he has lost this loyal Holland defenders confidence.

Weiss didn't pass, Alfie didn't pass. Datsyuk resigned, Kronwall resigned. What do you want? We can't sign everyone. There are 29 other teams that are trying to get better just like we are. Do you want us to overpay someone just to say we signed them then to be stuck with a horrible cap hit for someone who isn't worth it 4-5 years down the road when we need to resign a bunch of our young guys?
We are building for the next 8-12 years not the next 2. People can't get that through their heads.

Instead of promoting a young player they 're sign the second worst dman we had last year with a raise. It's not just who we missed out on this year. He's been saying we need a top 4 right handed shot to bolster the blue line for years and has done nothing about it. He talks about the kids and instead gives raises to plugs that are useless.
