Hmmmm, never really gave the thought of Weiss playing wing...that could work out wonderfully. BOTH Jurco and Glendening have exemptions remaining to cover next season, so much like Nyke this season, they can start the year in GR without the chance of losing them, thus opening up two roster spots up front...lets look at this:
I hate Franzen anyway, and I especially hate him on the top line. Nyke should be there and that is where I am starting him.
Nyke - Dats - Z
Weiss - Leggy - Alfie
Fish - Tinky - Abby
Franzine - Barbie - Miller
(Andy - Ferraro - Dirty Harry)
Kronner - Big E
Smitty - UFA (Morris)
Diesel - UFA (Mitchell)
That's 24 players with Glenny and Jurx stating GR. Trading Kindl (no so) Fire and Almost Almqvist for a couple of picks. If you feel the pinch of a lower cap, then Andy can be packaged as well, or maybe sign bit cheaper D-man instead of one of Mitchell or Morris. Unless you'd want to roll the dice on Marchenko and only sign Morris.
I know this is a Weiss thread, and I really didn't mean to respond with a roster of possible next season ufa's, but the idea of Weiss playing wing lead me to where I may be able to put others...sorry.
Franzen on the fourth line is ridiculous, I understand your disdain with him, but he is still valuable in the top 6, good for 25-30 goals. When your team lacks offense you don't cut the ice time of one of the few guys who can score.
Well as bad as our PP has been for about three years now I think Babs just puts the units together at random.
Babs: "Ok, first unit is going to be Kronwall, Ericsson, Lashoff, Gustavsson, Mrazek"
Tatar: "Coach those guys are all defensemen and goalies..."
Alfie: "Seriously, at least two of them aren't even in the lineup right now..."
Babs: "That's why you've got to compete..."
Alfie: "What does that even..."
(Short handed goal)
Babs: "PLAY HEAVIER!"
Lmao thanks for the laugh kip, that was hysterical
I'd be easily willing to pay him north of 6.5 for 7 years he is that kind of a beast. Heck Backes even overpowers some other pwfs with his sheer strength he. Get him as a top 6 guy add Orr and Gazdic to our fourth line and that lineup becomes a pain in the ass to play against
I'm sure Datsyuk would LOVE having backes on his wing, could you imagine? I'm gonna go drool for a while, see us in a bit
Budaj has played well also .... I just don't get the habs ... I texted my friend who's a habs fan they make no sense cause they beat the teams like boston they shouldn't beat but lose to s***ty teams lol ,
Probably not the right place to post it, but I bet you guys want to see this. Nyquist on NHL Live talking about the Wings' playoff chances, being in GR at the beginning of the year, and other stuff. Loving Goose more and more. He has a great attitude too.
Ok, I know that I brought this up and so it's on me. And I definitely don't want to cut your views short. But let's not make this about Subban, we had enough of it during the Olympics. I'm sorry I brought it up, I just liked the way he responded after taking a hard hit.
My bad. Can we go back to Callahan now?
I agree absolutely, and you're right, in the video he responded well, and if he is turning over a new leaf good for him, I just would like to see that persona on ice as well as off ice. Anyways yes back to Callahan
Same, I definitely admire his style of play and makes me pine for the days when Shanny was around. We could use some more guys like that.
That video of PK is awesome. He's such a great role model and character, wonder what will happen when his deal is up at the end of the year (RFA).
Seriously?!? Pk is one of the biggest babies in hockey, takes terrible penalties, and is very very easily rattled. He may be talented, but a role model? Having character? That's not pk you're talking about
And where we play those teams, then we're just gonna have to beat the aren't we?
Some here seem to act as if I'm saying if the teams chasing us win all their remaining games we're still good. I didn't think I had to spell out the obvious. The teams chasing us are gonna win more than they will lose. All I'm saying is the Wings can't count on other teams losing, and they just need to worry about their own games.
The Wings will lose games. So will the teams chasing us. When it comes down to it, they have to worry about their own business, and I simply have faith that they will pull it off.
We just have to beat Columbus tomorrow night. Some breathing room, and a lot less depending on other teams to do the work for us.
yes obviously the wings can't count on other teams losing, no one said they could. All anyone is saying is that with a little help we make the playoffs, i.e. the leafs losing 5 games in a row, or columbus losing consecutive games, philly hopefully loses some consecutive games. You giving us a chance to make up some ground. We can't beat teams we don't play so we can hope for a little help from the teams that are playing the teams we need to lose.
Datsyuk: “Don’t know what’s next. I’ll talk to the trainers and doctors to see what’s next, but right now he’s still going through the time he needs to give it a chance to heal.”
Zetterberg: “I don’t know when he’ll be cleared to skate. I’m told at around eight weeks he’ll be cleared for physical contact. I do know before the end of the season he’ll be back skating, but I just don’t know when.”
Weiss: “He had a second opinion. The second opinion was similar to that of the Philadelphia doctor, Myers’ opinion. I think what’s going to happen is he’ll get a cortisone injection, hoping it relieves things. We don’t know if it’s inflammation or if it’s a different issue or if it’s scar tissue. He feels OK going 65, 70, 75 percent, but when he pushes all out he feels pain and when he gets pain he backs back off. He’s been told to push through. He’s pushed through. We’re going to give him another 72 hours and keep our fingers crossed that there’s some progress.”
Cleary: “I think he’s frustrated at the lack of … during the Olympic break he did some things and he had a reaction. He got some fluid on his knee, had it drained then he got some more fluid on his knee. He feels better, but nowhere near where he needs it to be to talk about practicing every day and making a comeback.”
a few positives, pasha and weiss could be back soon, zetterberg will be skating again in the next few weeks, and cleary is nowhere near returning, all positive things
