#2447684 What's Killing Our Offense?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 24 October 2013 - 08:55 PM

I expected a little more offense from Smith and Kindl, who both have combined for 2 points in 18 games. Or I should say Kindl has both points, Smith has zero. Smith has looked better recently with his scoring chances though, I'll admit.

He's been a -5 since returning to the lineup, he is currently a -9. I know +/- isn't everything but that is quite a terrible number to accumulate in 7 games. I think smith is a weak link as is Sammy and Cleary, bring up nyquist ouellet, and a healthy helm and this team changes entirely

#2447225 Any new Helm Updates?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 23 October 2013 - 01:41 PM

per khan

ultrasound showed fluid but no tear. Will not play saturday, but will likely travel with team on west Canada trip

Potentially good news. Would be so much better if his first game is in detroit the whole crowd will go mental.

Holy balls, somewhere Sammy is laughing at us while holding Ericsson and helm voodoo dolls.

#2447115 Ericsson out 2-3 weeks

Posted by Euro_Twins on 22 October 2013 - 06:09 PM

(And here I was just saying that pairing DeKeyser with a good offensive defenseman might be magical.)

On the bright side (if you can call it that)...I haven't been overly impressed with Ericsson thus far. He's steady, reliable, a great veteran presence (especially on the PK), but he still makes his fair share of mistakes. And I dunno if we're really gonna miss his size all that much.

The Hockey Gods are doing all they can to earn DeKeyser a promotion. Maybe he really impresses on the top pairing and Ericsson returns a second-pairing guy. That might be good for our depth.

I'm reaching, I know.

Is this a joke?

Big Rig is second on the team in hits (30th among dmen), 5th in +/-, 5th in shot blocking, and he has been using his size a lot more...

I've missed the last two games what happened to Ericsson

Wife was popping out a mini Ericsson, probably is 2 feet tall already

We look pretty decent so far, I think it is cause my new Datsyuk WC jersey is bringing us good luck :)

#2446779 Ouellet Debut Tonight

Posted by Euro_Twins on 21 October 2013 - 07:05 PM

I don't really understand why Ouellet has seen action in the preseason as well as tonight while Sproul and Almquist haven't.

Almquist has put his time in to at least warrant a look while Sproul is probably more of what we need in a defenceman.

Maybe they're showcasing him for a trade...I know, I know, probably not a popular idea.

For the record I like Ouellet but you've got to give up something to get something.

Almquist is not good defensively, Ouellet is

#2446571 Lines Thread

Posted by Euro_Twins on 20 October 2013 - 09:52 PM

I think the best lines with what we have would be:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Bert
Alfie-Zetterberg-Nyquist/Cleary
Tatar-Weiss-Cleary/Nyquist
Abby-Helm-Miller/Eaves

Holland should have got a legit top line winger in the offseason.  We already have two of the best centers in the league.  Dats and Z play better apart anyway.  I am still surprised that they think its a good idea to play them together.

I'm sorry but two things here.

1. There was no top line winger available, the best options were what we got.

2. Zetterberg is having the best start of his career and Datsyuk has been over a point per game, how exactly do they play better apart?

In honour of my mother's birthday, I request a win.
In honour of my sister's birthday (yes, same day), I request that somewing get a hat trick.
In honour of Euro_Twins' birthday (no relation), I request that Bottle of Smoke get out of the arena sober enough to not accidentally pick up a Coyote and have to have us bail her out of jail.

Birthday win coming up. Beat the shot out of the yotes 5-1 wings. Cleary gets all 5
And gets an own goal. Double hatty :)

#2445950 Kronwall Injury Update

Posted by Euro_Twins on 18 October 2013 - 09:07 PM

I know this isn't going to be a popular thing to say, but it wasn't a dirty hit. if you watch the replay, what part of Mccloud's body hits kronwall's head? It was his thigh. kronwall's head went sideways into the boards. That is why his ear is cut up. Now it is physically impossible for those 2 things to be true in a hit from behind.
I understand the climate of sports today, and no one wants to see anyone get hurt. But players need to be more aware of where they are in todays game. Darren Elliott during the intermission break all but refused to call it a dirty hit, in fact he was far more focused on the other hit right behind the play on Glendenning.
Mickey Redmond talks about this all the time. Players put themselves in dangerous positions far to much and are not allowed to protect themselves anymore. a bi-product of far to many rules in todays game.
Now will McCloud get suspended? yes he will. it would have been a boarding call if Kronwall hadn't turned, so a dangerous play anyway.

I didn't read your whole post, didn't need to. Regardless if Kronner turned or not he was still getting hit from behind. Blindsided hits are dirty hits. McLeod saw the numbers the entire time and never let up

#2445908 McLeod suspended 5 games for hit on Kronwall

Posted by Euro_Twins on 18 October 2013 - 05:12 PM

Lapierre got 5 games for his hit.

When you listen to Shanny's explanation, you could almost swap it out for Mcleod's hit on Kronwall.

The only real difference is that Lapierre was suspended before for a similar hit.  If the league wants to be consistent at all (I know, I know), it seems like Mcleod will get fewer games.  I'd guess three.

Similar, but Lapierre hit him from behind, but not in the head, add a couple games for the head hit for sure
