I agree that we're a young team, and I by no means bemoan the fact that we're "old".  But, I think it's at least worth noting that while only a handful of guys are over 31, they're all our best players (with the exception of Cleary).  D, Z, Fran, Knonwall, Weiss all have VERY important spots on this team.  So I think the point could be made that while we're not old overall...the most important parts of our team are getting up there.

Which is why guys like Tatar, goose, Mantha(hopefully after he's healed), Smith , and jurco are on the team, to learn from our aging stars and take the reigns one day. We have a promising future even with the guys in the ahl

Weiss is 31, I said over 31. Kronwall......your right, I just forgot him..
Point is, the poster was criticizing us as an aging team. Yes, most fans would get rid of Franzen and Cleary if given the chance, but I don't think any would get rid of Datsyuk, Kronwall, or Zetterberg. Two players fans don't want, does not make a team "an aging team, nobody wants to play on"

I wasn't disagreeing with the point just correcting it. And technically Weiss would be over 31 cause he already turned 31, but that's just nitpicking by me. Either way we're a fairly young team, pretty much coming into its prime.

#2537223 Wings sign Defenseman Joe Hicketts to Entry Level Contract.

To be fair he's only 18, and men grow till the mid 20's--so he can still hit a growth spurt. He probably won't grow into a monster, but no reason he can't be 5'11 or 6' feet tall.

Wait I'm 5'9" and I'm 25... Does that mean I can still grow??? :) please make it happen Santa!! I have 3 weeks till I'm 26 so it has to happen soon

#2537173 Who should get cut/traded by game 1 of the season?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 24 September 2014 - 01:22 PM

This question boils down to who can and will clear waivers... [Don't forget it works both ways and they need to be able to clear re-entry waivers as well]
22 of the 23-man roster listed by capgeek have to clear waivers to get assigned to GR. Callahan, Nestrasil, and Ferraro all also have to clear waivers to get sent down this year (I'm not sure if they would be subject to re-entry waivers if they get brought up this year). Jurco is the only 'regular' from last season who can get sent down without first clearing waivers.
I think taking that into consideration, the Wings are going to face some difficult decisions this season without making some trades or accepting some 'losses' to the waiver wire.
I had orginally been hopeful that Mantha would stick out of camp, but with the injury and the roster the way it is, I don't think there are going to be any 'surprises'.

I'm pretty sure there's no more 're entry waivers per the new cba

I hope so.....but this is just what most user here were in fear of.  Sure its not a conditioning thing, just a bad break, but so was when he got elbowed in the face and missed a lot of games last year, that was not a conditioning thing either.  Ericsson is already out, Alfie is out (even though he isn't signed, but if he were healthy, he would be signed.)  Barbie Doll Helm is living up to his reputation...again, not his fault, but a bad break, still he is a magnet of bad breaks, thus his reputation.  I won't give it too long until Franzen, Howard, Gustavsson and at least one more defenseman is out as well with "bad breaks."  That is just the way it went last season and so far we are well on our way to another injured season.  Not to even mention what happened to Mantha, he most likely wouldn't have started in Detroit, but it doesn't hurt us any less... I wish that we were all wrong in our fears over the summer, and I still do.  Its early, the injuries, although bad, don't seem to be season altering as of now, but I can just hear it now when Datsyuk is under-performing come January and its all due to the lingering shoulder injury....I hope not, but I am fearful everytime one of those players get hit....Z included...

I'm not saying we won't have any injuries. But you're picking at every little thing here. A broken nose won't stop helm from playing, a sore shoulder won't keep datsyuk out long. And mantha didn't even make the team yet. It's not even the regular season yet and everyone is in full on panic mode.

no...nobody saw this coming... Get ready for more from the same players.

He hit the boards the wrong way. It's not some conditioning thing, he didn't tweak his knee again or anything so he might miss a couple weeks, but I will bet you he's back by game one

As a Swede I'm sad to say that you're definitely wrong. We have a lot of young talent but overall the SHL has nothing on the KHL. All the best players from the SHL that can't make it in the NHL go to the KHL these days. The Swedish league was a lot better just 5years ago before the KHL started draining us of good players.

In Soviet Russia player drain you!

I heard a rumour that babcock was planning to go to russia after his contract was done so he could coach datsyuk and kovalchuck on the same team... he said ебать Детройт сук... which is something bad in russian

#2536592 Training Camp Thread

Posted by Euro_Twins on 19 September 2014 - 11:26 AM

Lol even in training camp people are getting angry that Cleary is on the "top line" there is literally three teams, all they are doing is getting back into game shape, it's not like it's the last 10 games and our playoff hopes are on the line here. Calm down everyone, it will be okay

#2536583 TSN ranks all major league sport franchises.

Posted by Euro_Twins on 19 September 2014 - 10:32 AM

I wouldn't say they are dead wrong. TO is definitely one of the top 10 worst franchises in NA.
When you take into account fan base size, expectations, management, and droughts between championships the Leafs are definitely tops in the NHL. Only the Cubs in the MLB, the Knicks in the NBA, and the Vikings/Lions/Jets in the NFL catch my attention as teams that are in major markets and consistently have stunk for the longest time. There are teams that have zero championships but most of the time they are new/expansions or are in minor markets. And of those teams you can say a few of them have at least made it to a championship game/series in the last 10-15 years. But the Leafs... yeesh.

Apparently Tampa and Anaheim are better franchises than the wings, while Columbus is only one back of us. Don't put any stock in that article.
