#2534852 Holland signs 4 year extension with wings **MOD Warning Post 130**

Posted by Euro_Twins on 23 August 2014 - 08:50 PM

We took guys like Datsyuk in late rounds because we knew we could. No one else scouted him. Or like with Zetterberg, Hakan saw something no one else did. I can't remember but wasn't Zberg like really underweight kid when we drafted him? Or something like that.

As was datsyuk. They were "small soft euros" and they turned into two of the best nil players of their time.

Other teams get lucky with one guy on their team drafted late that turned into a star. The wings however have stocked the shelves with great talents I'n late rounds and won a cup. We have nyquist, Tatar, and possibly others coming up now that "we just got lucky with" and we had filppula and hudler before too. We are very good at late round drafts and we don't have to rank to win. Its the one thing I can't knock Holland for.

That being said I think he shouldn't have been extended still.

#2534796 Datsyuk or Fedorov?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 22 August 2014 - 02:43 PM

This isn't a knock on Pavs, but the Hockey Hall of Fame is the easiest HOF to get into, Dats will get in. He'll retire with 2 Cups (at least) and over 300 career goals.
I'll take Fedorov over Datsyuk. Feds won the Hart, 3 Cups, and had 30 or more goals in a season 10 times. Fedorov career's better then Datsyuk, Datsyuk is in, so no question Fedorov.

Dats also has 532 assists already. He could easily be over 600-650 when he retires and is just shy of Beijing a ppg player his entire career (804 points in 824 games) that's good enough for me, without even taking into consideration his two way play. That just puts him over the top.

I say let Holland run it, it'll give him something to do in the offseason.

Nope. He would just post congratulations Cleary on taking us for fools, and never post again until next year.

I wasn't exactly being specific you guys get the idea...it'll be resigning of a couple or several guys with little to no action in free agency or trades.

That sucks, free agency and trade is usually our bread and butter

That does not mean he's going to be fired at all lol. Red Wings fans HATE Holland right now and the guy just got an extension. Why? Because 99% of fans are blithering idiots who can't see past the next immediate season, so I'm sure the organization really couldn't care less what we think.
EDIT: There's no option available better than Holland

Thanks for calling me a blithering idiot :) it's not just missing out on fa's it's also stuff like bringing Cleary back twice, quincey, Sammy, among others. Holland can't let go, and that in turn helps free agents decisions to not want to come here. If he was building a team that would be good in the future I would be ok with him, but he constantly brings in guys who are useless to our team, and I've had enough. I've defended him for several years now, enough is enough

#2534121 Alfie wants to play

Posted by Euro_Twins on 12 August 2014 - 05:37 PM

It's simple:
injuries are part of the game (sadfully)
every team has to deal with them
Top contenders like Boston had to play without Seidenberg, also known as 50 % of their top pairing, a few seasons ago Pittsburgh was without Crosby AND Malkin for a long period of time. The Blues went into the playoffs injured and lost Backes for a good amount of time - it's part of the game. Some people are making it sound like the only thing holding the Wings back are injuries, that's clearly not the case.
As a team gets older injuries are becoming more frequently so come back to the topic: will a 42 old Alfredsson reduce the injury problems ? Highly unlikely, he didn't have anything left for the second half of the season last year and it wasn't just because of injuries the guy was gased.
Other teams have long figured out how to play against this team and the problems have been the same since 2009. Alfie is not a guy that can create space or tank his way to the net, he is another older perimeter player who badly wants a cup. I really like thim and would love sseing him a cup but it's not happening here, so I don't understand him nor Brodeur why are they putting their older bodies through this grind again ? Both are multimultimillionaires and they don't have to do it for money that's for sure.

The blues got demolished. Boston got knocked out, as did Pittsburgh. All of those teams did not win cups when they had those injuries.

#2534104 Helmer: First one to get a herniated disc in the new Season?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 12 August 2014 - 03:04 PM

Bans didn't like tootoo?
I'm a bit more worried that the Tootoos are honeymooning in Hawaii and Herlmer is with them.  Now that's carrying the load above and beyond the call o' duty.
Or maybe this is a different occasion.
Or maybe Herlmer and his lady split and Tootoo is teaching him how to pick up chicks.
Commence the motorboat jokes.  I'm done for the day.
EDIT: was misspelling Herlmer as Hermler.  Can't have that.

Should have left it. Helmer was misspelled. Babs was misspelled by my and you missed the misspellings of herlmer lol

Herlmer? Don't remember him being on our team lol. Must be related to hertl.

This must be why bans didn't like tootoo. Always making helm carry the load.

#2533749 Who is YOUR most under-appreciated/unsung Red Wing?

Posted by Euro_Twins on 05 August 2014 - 05:23 PM

I agree nothing worse then people thinking we have to have 12 two way forwards. We could use guys who can actually score 40 goals a year.

I would love to have a non defensively minded forward that can pot 40-50 goals.

#2533564 Candiens, P.K. Subban agree to 8 year contract

Posted by Euro_Twins on 02 August 2014 - 06:57 PM

People need to stop pointing to these "escalating contracts" and suggesting we are headed to another lockout.  Every player in the league could sign to the league minimum ($550,000 or whatever it is now) and it would have a "zero" impact on how much cash ends up going to the players.  Scenario A - every player in the league signs for $1M, scenario B - every player in the league signs for $10M.  Under both scenarios A & B, total cash compensation to player will be the same...that's how the CBA works.  Player contracts are simply used to determine how the player's share of revenues is divided amongst the player group.

Well aside from the fact that if you paid each player one million you wouldn't hit the cap floor and ten each would be way over the cap. You have to look at the fact that each player ISNT paid equally. And contracts like this DO drive up other salaries. So come time for a new cba they will definitely say the players make too much money again, and budda boom budda Bing, another lockout

I hope these contracts aren't slowly moving us toward another lockout.....

They are.

#2533257 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

Posted by Euro_Twins on 29 July 2014 - 08:18 AM

ok, ok, no more Diesel...
I said its too much so he better get 20-30 goals to prove he is worth it. If he never gets 20 then its way over payment. Closer to 30 and he is worth it for sure! In the end I am glad he is still a Red Wing! Go Tatar!

So 30 goal scorers make less than $3million? I understand the sentiment but your argument is invalid. If he scores 20 goals he is worth the contract. If he scores 30 he is performing way higher than his contract.

#2533219 Tatar Signs 3 Year Deal $2.75 mill AAV

He proved more than sheahan has, and more than nyquist had when he signed his deal so I understand it. Nyquist will get a better contract than Tatar after this year. I predict 4 million for 4 years or 5 for 5

#2533108 Predictions for the DRW 2014-15 Season!

Z and d will be ppg roughly I say if they play 150 games combined they tally 55 goals and 145 points
