#2433026 Best GMs

Posted by The Axe on 11 August 2013 - 09:48 AM

Personally I regard Holland as one of the best. Thinks long term, hires the right people, and keeps us competitive.

What about other GMs though? Are there any others out there that you would pick over Holland or just below?

I would pick Scotty Bowman over anyone else in hockey.

Only way Eaves is back is if they trade 2 of Bertuzzi Samuelsson and Tootoo or trade one and send Nyquist to GR.Emmerton will only be back if they move a guy and they have questions about Helm.

Emdog is a regular for 2 seasons now. He's our 4th line center.

Emdog makes him sound like a failed white rapper. Dumbest damn nickname I've ever heard.

Emmerton is the reserve forward. Most reserves get plenty of games in. He does nothing really well outside of his work ethic. If they can't trade someone else it makes absolutely no sense to waive someone else and get stuck with a big cap hit when they can dump him penalty free. Right now he's their 7th best center behind Datsyuk Zetterberg Weiss Helm Andersson and Abdelkader. Before they got Weiss and Andersson established himself he was #5.

Now do you see why I'd say that?

#2432503 So the consensus on Shanny's #14 is a no?

Posted by rick zombo on 05 August 2013 - 12:10 PM

I thought he left because they wouldn't make him captain. I could be wrong though, but if true his number shouldn't be retired

I think if we're going to speculate, the best theory is that he left because he didn't get along with Babcock. Same as Scheider and Lang. Although I think in the case of all three of theses guys, the Wings weren't overly worried about them leaving either.

If I can accept red home uni's then I can accept the new format. Damn, I miss home whites.

I'm not a Tootoo fan which I'm sure is part of it, but still he has a very specific role and skillset.  And 3 years at $1.9 million for what he brings 9-12 minutes a night is overpayment to me.

There is no way 1.9mil for what tootoo brings is over payment. He just needs to be used.

I think that Datsyuk and Zetterberg have not accomplished enough to have their numbers retired. At this point neither of them are on par even with Fedorov in terms of accomplishments and Fedorov's number will not be retired. Neither will Shanahan, Larionov, or even Osgood. And they have more Cups and personal accomplishments.

I think if the Wings were a less storied franchise and didn't have Howe, Sawchuck, and Lindsay up in the rafters right now they would have a better chance. But this isn't Columbus or Buffalo. Detroit has had giants, and while Datsyuk and Z have been huge for their team, they are not HUGE like those other names.

#2429599 Players We've Traded Away

Posted by AtomicPunk on 11 July 2013 - 05:25 PM

Is it on Youtube? I'd love to watch that. In my circle of friends, we called Primeau "Lumpy." Not exactly sure why but it seemed to fit.

It's not on YouTube, that was in the days of VHS. I would have to find the box that contains all the old VHS and upload it. Which may happen. :)

Didn't Djoos score 4-5 goals IN ONE GAME against the North Stars once?

I loved it when Primeau got traded. LOVED it. I guess I never got over the fact that we didn't take Jagr because of Petr Klima's troubles. When I think of Primeau on the ice, he's butt is wet from falling down so often trying to unsuccessfully split the defense. Off the ice, I can't forget the grown man COLLECTED MICKEY MOUSE FIGURINES.

I actually made a compilation video of Primeau falling down over and over and over and over, it was pretty long.

Oates is the big one for me, mostly because it happened when  I was a young Wings fan and Oates was among my favorite players.   Graves is another one.

Given their track record the Wings might want to re-think things next time they consider trading any player named Adam.

I hope he's the one forced purely based on his terrible nickname, "emdog"

Dont forget Emdog anymore. He's a regular.

A regular with the Oilers, Islanders, etc. or even Griffins soon enough.

Good GOD who in their right mind would want to go from playing for the Detroit Red Wings to playing for the Buffalo Sabres or Florida Panthers?!?! It would take way more than a difference of 1.5 mil in salary to get me to do that kind of dumpster diving if I were a player. f*** that.

Easy to say that, but this isn't exactly a big name NBA player deciding between $20 million vs. $18.5 million.

We're talking much less money.  Besides, I'd rather live in Florida and make $1.5 million more.

#2427892 Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Seems bizarre reasoning to me, they're in a similar situation to us - 7/8 seed with some good kids coming through mixed with a few star players.  Are our chances of a cup really that much greater than the Sens?

This was my thought as well. I think there is something else going on that the public is not aware of.
