#2527443 Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Posted by BadgerBob on 30 June 2014 - 10:09 PM

I wonder if it's possible they each are told the other has interest in playing with the Wings would make them want to come here. You know, more talent give them a better chance at winning the cup. Doubtful, but just a thought. Really hoping for Niskanen first and foremost though.

Pittsburgh would rofl.

I'd be pissed. Seeing wimpy kiddy baby whiner in a Wings jersey would make me sick, I don't care how many points he puts up. Plus the guy disappears in the playoffs.

The Blues need scoring depth, badly. Maybe Nyquist would interest them? Mantha?

 No. Way.

I think the Panthers should move before the NHL adds any more teams. They're always near the bottom in attendance and moving them to the west would even the conferences up.

I feel like next year is gonna be the Babcock sweepstakes, and half the teams in the league are going to be slinging offers. Babs will sign with a team and there will be a scramble for all the other coaches. It might actually be a really interesting offseason next year.

I'd like to see that happen, and then he actually ends up at Michigan. YOU CAN'T HAVE OUR BABCOCK!!

why do some want Boyle? the guy is on the decline, he posted the worst +- on the Sharks D last year he'll be 38 by the start of the

coming season and there's a reason that San Jose are letting him go, so why take on other teams not wanted?

Niskanen has had 2 good season's in his NHL stint. His first year in Dallas and his last one in Pittsburgh, which happens to be his contract year.

He's a R/H shot and fairly young at 27 with almost 500 reg games under his belt. He is not the #1 guy that the Wings seek. Id say a #2/3 at the

most and we have those within the organisation.

Trading is the only way we'll get a #1 D guy this year and next years (2015) UFA list doesn't offer much either. I doubt very much that Kenny will

be looking at a trade for a big name player, but the guys that he should look at Weber, Keith, Pietrangelo, etc will be too dear for him.

A vet player thats an upgrade on Quincey would be the way to go on a year maybe 2 at max deal and let the rookie's fight it out for the 6/7

spots. Id have no problem letting Marchenko come up full time.

UFA's:  Tom Gilbert, Nikita Nikitin, Anton Stralman, and maybe Ron Hainsey would be

Kronwall DeKeyser

Smith Nikitin

Ericsson Marchenko

Kindl/Lashoff whoever isnt traded.

You don't want Boyle, who in his worst year he still had more points than any of those guys at the bottom have ever had in their careers. Other than maybe Gilbert I wouldn't want any of those guys. Stralman has never played a full season and only came close once. The other guys don't put up much for points either. I'd rather go with kids if we're gonna have stats that low, at least they'd be cheaper. I just don't see how any of those guys would make us a better team. Niskanen may not be a number one but I'd rather have a bunch of 2's and 3's than a bunch of 3's and 4's.

#2519393 Babcock - Jack Adams Finalist

Posted by BadgerBob on 06 May 2014 - 11:29 AM

Why? They have four guys picked in the top 5 of first rounds, they should be doing well. They made it just as far as we did losing to, in my opinion, a lesser team than who we lost to. Babcock led a team with 421 man games lost to injury into the playoffs and lost to the first seed. I don't think he necessarily has it locked up.

Why do we think we're gonna get someone like Pavelski without giving up a ton?

Let's not forget that unlike us, San Jose has not lost a trade in a very long time...

No way San Jose gives him up. Marleau and Thornton are 34. I think he's someone they're going to look to be the leader once those two are gone. The trade would have to be heavily in their favor for them to actually do it.

Why not call up Callahan instead of having Smith play forward?? Are we at the roster limit?

#2488861 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Posted by BadgerBob on 03 March 2014 - 05:22 PM

Looks like the Sens might be looking to unload Jason Spezza. Not that I think there's any chance we'd get him. But he would look so nice with Datsyuk or Zetterberg (or both). Most likely Ottawa's asking price will be staggering. And Spezza has a huge contract, so im sure we don't even have interest. But one can always dream.

Could you imagine how much Ottawa would hate Detroit after getting Alfie and Spezza? I'd almost feel bad...almost.

The Blues are going to be an absolute nightmare to play against in the playoffs. Stewart's a pretty big loss, though. Unless they're gonna be jerkoffs and somehow acquire Callahan, in which case the league should fine them for ruining the deadline.

Kinda sucks for Stewart and Halak, no?

Probably how everyone used to feel about the Red Wings eh?

Callahan picks up garbage most of the time. he does have a good shot and scores that way as well. But he crashes the net and drives in goals.

That's good to hear the guy has a nose for the front of the net. Wings could use some of that, too many finesse guys.

Does ist even matter? The guy is not available and even if he were he wouldn't fit with the lowkey professional approach this organization is known for. If Z and D are as humble as it gets others shouldn't even dare to be cocky and arrogant. A former alltime top 5 defenseman wasn't cocky so no I don't think this organization should bring in problem boys.

I can only hope and pray we'll see guys like him or Kadri in a Winged Wheel I despise cockyness and arrogance especially if players can't back it up. I hate the trend of young players coming into this league and acting cocky, selfish and arrogant a prime example would have been Yakupov and his over the top confidence + celebrations. Hockey isn't soccer, basketball or Football someone should have told these players before they've entered the league..

I think Girardi would be a good fit, low maintenance guy who still has some upside.

This is what I was implying. Wings have a very humble, team first oriented locker room. I feel like his personality would clash with leaders like Hank, and especially with Babcock. Yeah he can back up his attitude, so could Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Manny Ramirez and other world class athletes. Not saying he's even remotely close to the level of those guys, but teams shy away from those guys because they're a cancer to the locker room with their "me first" attitude. I'd rather get a player with slightly less talent that doesn't have such a big head.

Would anyone on here support me saying id be okay with bringing quincey back for less money?
He's really not that bad, he just needs a solid shutdown d man to cover his mistakes and to try to get him scoring.
Bi mean were not grtting our first rd pick back for him.
May as well bring him back on a short/cheap deal.

No thanks. He seems to bring out the worst in whoever he's paired with.

Bob, Vanek has and can score 40+ goals per year with a good C. h ha 2 seasons already with 40 or more goals. Both with the Sabres.

Last time he scored 40 goals was 6 years ago. Last time he scored MORE than 40 goals was 8 years ago. Old news. If we're gonna make a guy the highest paid player in the game he needs to be consistently within the top 3 in goals and or points. I don't think that Vanek could do that at all.
