#2622736 Non-Wings You've Grown to Like

Milan Lucic.

Just kidding. ;) I like P.K. Subban a lot.

#2622541 Who is better Nyquist or Tatar?

Posted by derblaueClaus on 08 August 2015 - 04:32 PM

Tough choice, but If you made me I'd choose Nyquist. They are both great players and Tatar brings something that this team was lacking for a couple of years : The raw will score. But as others have pointed out Nyquist is the better all round player with a little more upside than Tatar, so my vote goes to him.

#2618478 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

#90 needs to be retired and hung from the rafters.

In the men's room.

Only after it was hanged, drawn and quartered.

#2618474 Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million

Posted by derblaueClaus on 01 July 2015 - 05:43 PM

Looks like Richards is our insurance in case Dats and Z get injured. For that the pricetag is a little bit hefty for my taste but we have the caproom and with the 1-year term I can't see anything wrong with that signing. Nothing exciting, but nothing disappointing either.

#2618452 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Great signing, this hopefully will give our team the much needed offensive power from the blueline. Sure, the 6 million in the books are a risk, but one worth taking. And our streak with bad UFA signings has to end at some point. As long as he doesn't pick #90 as his number I'm very optimistic Mike Green will help us a lot.

I said it many times, I'd like Green being a Red Wing. But our chances are indeed very slim if Green doesn't take us as his ticket to the Cup. There is always a GM involved in the negotiations that is more willing to overpay than Ken Holland. And I'm glad there is.

Nice, I like it.

#2609957 It's Official: Babcock to coach Maple Leafs

Posted by derblaueClaus on 24 May 2015 - 04:12 PM

I think it was 97.1. My apologies as I should have looked before saying anything. I'm not making it up though.

I also remember reading it. It was sometime last year when Kenny didn't land anyone at the TD I think.

I always thought it pretty ridiculous. Babs doesn't throws players under the bus in public.like Tortorella.  Babs is also known as a winning coach and most, if not all of the players want success above all. There are not many reasons why I wouldn't want to work under a coach like Babs if I was playing in NHL.

That is a great question.

I was kind of thinking the reason all of our players are small and soft is because they werent enough sustenance for blash.
So we get small skill guys in bulk because of this.

And don't forget the overriping of our prospects. We all know that a cut becomes more tender the longer it ripes. It all makes sense now.

Makes you WOnder how good wed be if we didn't have Jeff blashill in grand rapids eating our best prospects....

Why is everyone so excited to give a cannibal our head coaching gig?

Because he now stops eating prospects and starts to chew on old and chewy veterans like Cleary and Weiss ?! Only question is if players still count against the cap after eaten by your coach.

If that were the case then Toronto wouldn't have had to so massively overpay him for the pleasure.  Hell, they could have offered roughly the same money as Detroit and been confident he'd come to Toronto because they could offer him all the "intangible" things Detroit coudn't.  They could have offered him immortality.  Legacy.  Prestige.  Greatness.

But it wasn't about any of that.  They had to massively outbid everybody because otherwise Babcock wouldn't have gone there.  They didn't give him that money out of the kindness of their hearts, and he didn't ask for it just for s***s and giggles.

It wasn't about winning, or family, or anything else.  Eventually, as these things often do, it all came down to cash.  Lidstrom stayed with the Wings for less.  So did Datsyuk.  And Zetterberg.  And Kronwall.  Because they wanted to win here.

Babcock didn't.

Not necessarily. I'd agree with you but there wasn't a bidding war from the Leafs side according to Shanny and Babs. The Leafs made the offer before Babcock was heading to Prague. The only one that raised their offer were the Red Wings. If you believe that is of course your choice, but I haven't seen any media piece that says otherwise. What does it tell us ? Well, Babs didn't demand that kind of money and I'm sure he'd still choose the Maple Leafs if we matched that offer or if the Leafs offer wasn't better than our first.

"It all comes down to cash" is a too simple answer.  Decisions are made because of a number of reasons. Money may have played a role, but all the other factors mentioned here in the thread and by Babs were probably more significant. If everything came down to money no one would have blamed Babs if he said so. He could have just sat in the presser and told the media that the Leafs made the best offer money wise. Would you blamed him ? I sure wouldn't. Almost nobody would. Instead he made lengthy explanation that sounds reasonable for a guy like him.

I have a question:

With Babs gone, are the assistants, Granato, Hiller, Brewer still ours?

Will they follow Babs since he hired them?

Would especially like to keep Granato since he seemed to have a great impact on the effectiveness of the power play.

At the end of his presser Holland said it's their choice if they want to work under the new head coach and that they did sign them to the one year deal for that reason. So nothing is set. Keeping Granato would indeed be huge, though.

Guyz...what about YFMB?

He stays of course. If he doesn't work anymore we might need to find YFJB.
