#2567542 1/31 GDT : Islanders 1 vs. Red Wings 4

Might have been kind of a harsh call.  There was a loose stick on the ice that he could have tripped over.

Agreed, that was a tough call for the Islanders.

And another penalty kill.
Awesome.

Which is much more relaxing to watch with a two goal lead.....

Hope they blow this open in the 4rd.

Let's just hope the Isles aren't coming from behind in this one.

See, I interpreted it as he was the big erection who was screwing something, not that the big erection itself was getting screwed up, i.e. interfered with. Thank you for the alternative perspective that is invaluable in growing as a human being and understanding the world around me.

Your welcome. If you want to know more about erections just give me a call. Trust me, I'm an expert.

I know you're trying to make fun of him...but how is that a bad thing?

Screwing up a big erection is always a bad thing. For both sides.

Mrazek seems to have a great bouncing back night. 14 or so shots, no goal far. Thats how you respond to a game like the Tampa Bay one.

Forgot Marchenko was even playing.

Thats a good sign if your a D-Man.

Great goalies learn from games like the last one, and so will Mraz, if he's got the right stuff.  Petr the Great!!  ^_^

I'm sure he will. ;) LGW !

#2564745 Are the Wings a Contender?

Posted by derblaueClaus on 19 January 2015 - 02:15 PM

Smith is 25 and has played over 150 games.  He's not exactly inexperienced.  And he was a first rounder, so he doesn't exactly get the kind of leeway that Ericsson did either. He had proper development in the AHL (perhaps even overripened) too.  By all accounts, for a first rounder with his pedigree (Hoby Baker finalist, 1st round pick, AHL stud), he's developing at a snail's pace.

At what point do we say Smith is garbage?  Seriously, how old and how many games before we stop using the "he's inexperienced" excuse for his f*** ups and lack of production?

You're right, he isn't inexperienced but he is also not in his prime yet. As Dickie pointed out defensive players need more time to get good. Give him 2 years or so more and then we will see how far his talent will carry him. And even if he's stuck at this level and won't improve I wouldn't call him garbage. He's now a more or less steady #4-#6 D-Man, not exceptionally good, but also not exceptionally bad. A better version of Lashoff so to speak. Thats not what the Wings are expecting him to be but it's far from being garbage.

I wouldn't call it glaring hole but I agree, our D lacks offensive firepower. Just keep in mind D is still very young.  What was our third pairing last night ? Oullet and Smith ? There are rookie-forward lines with a higher average age. Therefore we probably see more contribution from those guys in the years to come.

I'm all for getting a guy like Green, but only for the right price. We don't need to overpay just make a deep run this year.

Good luck Thomas McCollum, may this NHL game play out better than your last one.
