#2640838 Wings Need on D and Glaring Inconsistencies

Posted by e_prime on 02 December 2015 - 10:51 AM

Why does it have to "problem" defensemen?
Why does everything have to be so negative all of the time?
...and why pick on Ericsson? Sure, you might see it as him having an off game last night, but it wasn't as if Kronner played a stellar game either?
Also, why do Red Wings fans think that our defensemen are more prone to defensive gaffes than any other team? I sometimes wonder if you guys regularly watch any other games or follow any other teams than the Wings.
I'll be honest. I never "played the game" so I don't have a great understanding of defensive systems, etc. but feel like I watch enough games around the league to know that the Wings aren't too far off from other teams defensive play. Certainly, there are teams in the league that outshine us on defense, but we're not as terrible as imagined by some.

As far as "problem" defensemen, go I will say this:
When Quincey is ready to return, one of Kindl or Smith are in trouble.
Marchenko is far and away a more solid defenseman and than either and has earned that seventh sixth spot! (thanks Zombo)
Younger, cheaper, and more reliable.

Kronner - Green
DeKeyser - Quincey
Machenko - Ericsson
Kindl/Smith

OMG. I just claimed "Ye Olde Eyeball Test" for myself.

not a great goal by Howard, but geez could the entire PK unit have backed off any more?

I mean, Hamilton almost had to go out of his way there to get that scoring chance, how rude of us....

#2443588 Nyquist taking things in stride, with class

Posted by Dabura on 12 October 2013 - 05:15 PM

kip, you're being a partypooper.

All Nyquist has done is destroy the AHL and play a key role in this past postseason run with the Wings (looking like far and away one of the best, most effective forwards on this team in the process). True, he hasn't "produced like Cleary," but he's also had a fraction of the time and opportunity Cleary's had.

He's the future, and the future is now. And the future is...sitting in Grand Rapids. And that is ridiculous. No voodoo rhetoric here. No extremist agenda. Just logic, or common sense, or whatever you want to call it. A really good up-and-comer deserves a spot on a roster that's overloaded with scrubs and plugs, guys who overall aren't as good and effective as said youngster. And, I mean, aren't the Wings all about building from within? Hasn't that been Holland's Big Thing for a good long while now? Young talent! Prospects! Youth! Homegrown talent! Drafting! The future!

#2442000 10/4 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Hurricanes 2 (OT)

Hey, Weiss was +3 tonight #money

Also Smith was terrible, really hoping he turns it around one of these days. Good guy, just overthinks everything.

What game were you watching? Smith was fine out there all night, people call Dekeyser a stud off tonights game and say Smith was brutal. Both played a comparable game its funny how once someone gets a rep around here they cant shake it no matter what. Same thing happened to Ericcson
