And that's the problem right there. That is unacceptable! Best 12 forwards should play. Jurco should be in the lineup and anything less than that is unacceptable. I'm tired of holland screwing up this team and leaving deserving players in the minors due to roster restrictions. Figure it out holland
We could easily have at least 5 points more if Nyquist hadn't been buried in the minors because Kenny the Genius matched (!!) an offer by Holmgren (another genius..) for Cleary..
I think Shanny fears to be suspected of favoring the Wings, if he handed out a suspension against a player from Detroits opposition. I'm convinced of that, actually, since that scrub Cowen went unsuspended after ellbowing Pavs in the head...
Assuming everyone is healthy, which especially for Helm is not going to happen...
Why those lines? Offense would be an absolute terror. If i recall correctly, Pavs had 48 points in 45 games last season DESPITE his wingers being (offensive) scrubs like Cleary and Abby. He could set them up for empty netters 4-5 times a game and they still would blow every chance. Now pair him with Z and Alfie..oh boy.
2nd line already showed us what it possibly can produce, and improved chemistry won't worsen that..
3rd line has the potential to completely frustrate opposition everywhere on the ice from a defensive standpoint AND would be dangerous, too.
4th line, get Mantha playing time in the NHL. In that setup we could easily afford some mistakes in the learning process but profit long-term because of the experience he gains.
I'm wondering if he didn't do some introspection or if someone didn't sit down and have a serious talk with him about his effort and it's relation to his output. When the guy is in go-mode, he really is a scoring force. But far too often he just stops working hard. You can see it in his face. He's just not tenacious far too often, like he's bored and drowsy. And then he seems apathetic about it. But at more times than we've seen the last few seasons, he seems to look a little hungrier this year. He's really looked strong lately. There's no reason he can't keep it up when Dats and Z are back. He's done it before, but he's gotta play hungry, every game, every shift.
You know what...when season started, he looked as lazy as all those seasons before. Then he was injured, with the Wings never really saying what it was, just "undisclosed illness" or something...and then he came back and played the hell out of him. Very energetic, focused, even defending. Then he got concussed, and when he came back he again looked that sharp...
...and when he was out with that "undisclosed illness", I read somewhere that rumour was that he suffers/suffered from depression. At that point, I thought "ok, just BS"...but giving it a second thought...he really shows signs of what are typical symptoms of this. Maybe they just finally found the right theraphy and he starts getting over it?
Comparing players from different eras gets you as far as comparing Jordan to LeBron. It just doesn't work. IMO, Jordan > LeBron. I grew up watching Lidstrom so I'm partial to him. Was a very impactful night watching one of my favorite players get his jersey raised.
IMO it goes even further. Not only shouldn't we compare players from different ages, it's also very hard to compare different positions. Plus, the number of titles you win depends on the teams around you and the strength of the league at that time. Therefore I don't see any reasonable way to compare players from different ages/positions.
