#2469046 Westgarth to the Calgary Flames

Posted by number9 on 31 December 2013 - 03:24 AM

They traded a first round guy for him. A guy who's big, but hasn't progressed in their system. When it comes down to it they traded a first round pick for a ANOTHER pair of boxing gloves. This is a loss for the flames. Even if they were salvaging a poor first round pick, it's still a loss. Especially since Westgarth will not give them anything they don't already have. Not surprisingly, Burke is as dumb as Feaster.

First line should be Cleary - Abdelkader - Bertuzzi. I don't know what the eff Babs is thinking putting Datsyuk of all people on the first effing line, we need a new coach.

Jimmy can't stop anything. Why did Babs mess up the lines too? He has done a terrible job this season with line management. Tatar down to the third line, Jurco to the fourth and for what reason? He promotes Abby and Cleary to the top-six. That's frickin insanity.

I agree they should switch Tomas and Tomas in those lines, but its still the best forward lineup they've iced in quite some times.

#2430096 Brunner Contract Talks

2 years @ 3M per?

If this is true I'm going to speculate that Brunner is trying escape Detroit because he doesn't want to

- play on the 3rd line
- train as hard as the big boys
- play 2 way hockey
- be subjected to Babcock's demanding coaching style

I dunno, just seems weird that he'd leave for Jersey of all places for comparable $

The moment Brunner fields his first call from another team he is gone IMO

July 5

Dallas signs Brunner 5 years/15 million.

July 6

Columbus signs Filppula 5 years/22.5 million.

July 6

Holland signs Cleary 4 years 12 million.

October 5

Holland says we like our team.

April 2

Holland says that if Bertuzzi, Sammy, Helm, Eaves, and Franzen can all get healthy, it will be like landing 5 UFA's.

May 14

The Red Wings get bounced by the Maple Leafs.

May 19

Holland announces his intentions to begin talks with Samuelsson and Ericsson.

July 5

Ericsson signs 5 year/25 million deal with San Jose.

July 6

Holland resigns Samuelsson 2 years/5 million.

#2423284 Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?

Only if it was part of a package for that fabled top-pairing defenceman we're looking for.

All this talk of $1.5-2M, its no wonder people slag off KH so much when they have such unrealistic expectations.  He is an UNRESTRICTED free agent.  Y'know, those guys that desperate GMs give huge contracts to?

If we can get him for $2.5M that would be amazeballs.

#2417560 Holland on The Huge Show.

Posted by rick zombo on 04 June 2013 - 09:55 AM

I agree with all of this Filpulla talk and it just makes me hate Holland more for not trading Fill for a draft pick when he had the chance!

That draft pick able to pass the puck to Nyquist for the overtime winner in game 2 vs Ducks?

That draft pick able to score the series winner in game 7 vs Ducks?

I'm all for letting Filpulla walk if it comes to that, but I'm glad we had him for this playoff run. The Wings may have fell short, but the experience of being a goal short of the confernece finals trumps the value of an uncertain draft pick IMO.

I see Tatar as becoming a leader. Kid has a lot of heart, I think.

#2395223 Brian Lashoff to take Dekeyser's place in game 3

Posted by unsaddleddonald on 03 May 2013 - 10:39 AM

im all for lashoff for game 3 ... hes a much bigger body  ( 6'3 200+ ) than white or lashoff he kills penalties and blocks a ton of shots and since hes a bigger guy he will be able to hang in there better with the big guys from the ducks than white or coliacovo who will be pushed around

if white or coliacovo goes in it will lead to a costly turnover in my opinion and we'll regret it ... lashoff was highly counted on at one point and i think hes the guy who SHOULD get the nod

Babs mentioned Cola and Lashoff after the game to John Keating.

Him not mentioning White should be a sign.

Split D and Z if Helm is available he's in no questions asked. More playing time for Dekeyser and Smith best 2 D last night

#2388600 Bertuzzi not returning Wednesday vs Kings

Posted by Majsheppard on 24 April 2013 - 06:11 AM

Babcock deserves to be fired, he is such an idiot.  His lines make no sense and now he wants to insert an old slow player, who missed so much time and has a bad back into the line up when you need to win?

His defensive parings suck and Bertuzzi only helps in Shootouts and we are past the part of the season where we need to care about shootouts.  They need to win in regulation at least a couple of times. Need to get five of six points and two ROW to make it.

Does anyone REALLY think that putting Bertuzzi in right now will make the difference?  He MIGHT be an improvement over Tootoo, but you know Babcock will likely put him in the top two lines and bench Gustav because he seems to do that all the time.  I just don't think you want to put him in right now.  He can't be in shape enough, and being -1 in the last three games could be enough to keep the Wings out of the playoffs.   This isn't a good idea.

#2388389 Franzen.... cares?!

Posted by kipwinger on 23 April 2013 - 02:37 PM

It was a statistical anomaly. Whine all you want. That doesn't change anything. Teams sometimes lose games because of bad luck, bad breaks, or mistakes.

That said, exactly what do you expect Babcock to say? That his goalie make a horrific mistake? That the team is playing horribly? That several players flat-out suck? That the organization is in the pits? Not only would those be untrue, you're also missing some very basic aspects of human social interaction. Babcock can and no doubt does let loose with what he thinks in private, to the players and to those others who need to hear it. When it comes to the public, that not OK. Doing so would cause tension between he and the players. Tortorella is the only coach of note who does it, and it causes serious problems in the locker room.

Give that some thought.

I wasn't suggesting he call them out in the press.  The fact that he makes excuses to the press is a symptom in my opinion.  If my guys weren't executing for s***, and because of this aren't winning games, I'll let them know it by reducing their ice time/benching them.  And then when the media heads ask questions I'll tell them what happened.  We failed to execute properly.  We made lazy line changes.  We left our goalie out to dry.  No need to downplay the fact that this team has looked like garbage all too frequently this year.  Own it, and prove that you're trying to fix it through your personnel moves.

If San Jose can bench Joe Thornton for playing like sh*t, then Babs can quit making excuses for two f*** ups which cost us valuable points, or saying how consistent we are when after we lose to Calgary (for the third time).  To me, that undermines accountability.
