#2497395 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Weber and Rinne are the faces of the team.

#2494957 Red Wings have Recalled Pulkkinen from Grand Rapids

Why?

I think Jurco has a lot of talent but I see him more as a 3rd liner. Teemu has the scoring ability to be a top 6 forward. Of course this is speculation and my opinion after seeing both Jurco and Teemu play in GR

Jurco is bigger faster and other than his shot he has better hand than Pulk. I don't see him as a 3rd liner.

The Grifs are pretty good.  They're currently sitting just out of the wild card spot in the NHL playoffs.

#2494073 Andersson breaks foot - down another center

Franzen is better at wing.  So is Abdelkader.

At least we can call Jarnkrok up......wait

Legwand helps now, Jarnkrok might help in 3 years.

Might as well try Ferraro.  sheahan wasn't scoring in the AHL either, maybe the NHL would bring something out in him.

Or Poile was set on getting Sproul or one of the younger guys on the Wings roster instead of Jarnkrok and Holland wouldn't budge so Poile caved at the last minute.

The people unhappy with the deal are basing it on the idea that because Jarnkrok is going to be a top line center because he was their best center prospect and the idea that Holland didn't work Poile down from what was asked for.  We don't know either is true, but based on Holland's comments the Wings didn't necessarily view him as likely to reach that high end potential.

Hard to score when you're playing with Glendening and Abdelkader

Like I said I would of called his bluff and if they said no I just wouldn't of done the deal and I'd try my luck July 1 .... But hey that's just me

Trade deadline day is all a game of chicken

Not if your boss told you that you needed to get a deal done to shore up the center spot because the priority was making the playoffs.

#2493168 3/7 GDT: Devils 4 at Red Wings 7

Posted by DickieDunn on 08 March 2014 - 01:23 PM

Gustavsson gave up 4 goals and was lucky to get the start against a weaker team that gave up 7, and has given up 4 or more in 5 of his last 10 starts.  Howard has generally payed against the better teams and has given up 4 or more in 2 of his last 10 starts.  I think part of it is the lesser competiton, part of it is that the team feels more pressure to play tighter with the backup.  Granted, Howard needs to be better, but I don't think that starting Gustavsson is the answer.

#2493018 Mark Fayne

I see what your saying, but I think we need a number 1 Dman: Kronner is a great number 2, Erock and DeKeyser as second pairing.

List all defensemen better than Kronwall. Aaaaaaaand go.

#2492512 Weiss - who would take him next season and does he have a full NTC

Posted by DickieDunn on 07 March 2014 - 06:10 PM

Most vets who are even kind of good have some kind of NTC.  Look around at other teams on capgeek.  "studs" like Handzus, Roszival, Clowe, Zubrus, and Scuderi have them.

When Weiss has been healthy in the past, he's been good.  If he was having problems with his wrist, which is what kept him out last year, I'd be a lot more worried about his long term future than I am now with it being his groin.  Sometimes it takes a long time for them to heal for a hockey player since thsoe muscles are stressed so much.

If a hockey player has a bad groin, he can't skate.  If a hockey player can't skate, he can't do a whole lot of positive things.  In hindsight they should have shut him down for the first 8 weeks or so of the season when he hurt it in camp, but c'est la vie.

This has probably already been mentioned, but it's been reported that the Bruins had a deal in place for Edler but it fell through in the end.

Sound vaguely familiar?

Every time people complain about Holland, I want to point out things like this, and the fact that Snow essentially traded a 1st, 2nd, and conditional 5th for Collberg and a conditional 2nd.

No good defensemen were moved, and they were all rentals.  The only reason they traded for Legwand even though he isn't signed next year is because they were desperate for a center, more than a d-man even, and him waiving his NTC to come here and the fact that he's from Detroit and grew up a Wings fan should mean they can extend him if they want to.  Vanek or Moulson are probably going to test the market no matter what, and they don't play center, so they weren't options.

Remember all the times Holland was ripped for saying he looked at a few things but ultimately the price was too high to make a deal?  Remember all the people that demanded he make a deal this year or he needed to be fired?  Jarnkrok was what it took.  You can't have it both ways, and border line NHL prospects like Almquist and Ferraro aren't going to get a deal done.  Does anyone really believe that Andersson, Sheahan, Glendening, and Emmerton down the middle would have been anything but a disaster?  Does anyone think that trading Jurco would have been better?
