#2532560 Callahan and Nestrasil re-signed

You guys are seriously over rating him. He's projected as a 4th line agitator, not a second line scorer.

True, but with players like Crosby you can tell because they over-react to every call in a really embarrassing way.

Crosby cries worse than my 5 year old when he skins his knee.

I vote for CHRIS DRAPER

Is that Kris Draper's cousin?

Wings don't need a 3rd pair guy

#2531860 Rule Changes in the AHL (what the NHL has considered)

Posted by DickieDunn on 12 July 2014 - 04:32 PM

They're going to have the game of hockey ruined in 5 to 10 years. The OT rule is interesting, but if the other 2 make it into the NHL.... yikes.

With the litigious society we live in coupled with the NFL lawsuit and the BS ones fringe ex-players are tossing at the NHL, the league has to be seen taking steps to cut down on head injuries.  Discouraging fighting and making sure people have helmets on are steps towards that.  If you want to blame someone, blame the lawyers and over-reacting hockey moms who go berserk over every bump and bruise.

The league won't be going away from the current standings point system anytime soon, but I'd rather see it be a win or nothing than the extra point for OT.  Failing that, 3 for a regulation win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss, nothing for regulation loss.  The current format keeps teams bunched up more though, meaning it looks more exciting.

#2531854 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

1st the signing of Franzen over Hossa whoch now looks worse and worse.

Weiss signing over Filppula. Yes there was time where Filppula looked lost but let's face it at half the player he is better then Weiss. Those 25 goals and 33 assists would have looked nice on the roster last year.

He used his last buyout on Tootoo who was to make a little over 1 million this year on the last year of his deal...why?

This season its sitting back and watching other teams pick up players. I know the Red Wings aren't really a destination anymore but I wouldn't have bitched even if the Red Wings took a 1 year flyer on Heatley. Which he ended up signing for 1 million with Anaheim.

Hell they should have just bit the bullet and brought legwand back.

Now there is no promise that even Alfredsson will come back. Also with the talks of trading Tatar for Green I just don't know anymore.

I've tried soo hard to support Holland but I just can't anymore.

Hossa was offered a contract, he didn't sign it.  Franzen was negotiating at the same time and he accepted first.  He'd just come off a huge playoff and big season, and was looking like a 30 goal a year guy.  Had Holland not signed him, and he left and Hossa still left for Chicago because he was chasing a Cup, the Wings would have been screwed.  Remember, Hossa did pretty much the same thing to the Pens the summer before.

Filppula wanted out, and after the season he had he shouldn't have been signed to that contract.  If he has another big year in 14-15 it will be the first time in his career he was healthy and productive back to back seasons.

Tootoo was bought out because nobody else was getting bought out, and it saved $975k in cap space and about $650k in real money.  It was use it then or lose it, the compliance buyouts aren't valid after this summer.

Holland offered contracts to every decent player out there.  They went to other teams for various reasons.

Legwand would have been the 3rd center, assuming Weiss is healthy.  They don't need him for that role with Helm and Sheahan on the roster.

Tatar for Green is media and fan speculation, not something Holland has said.

Tatar for Myers straight up is a NO. Let alone Andersson too. A lot of people on here are pegging Tatar a Hudler when the organization has been said to be grooming him as a Zetterberg.

Edit-I remember Mickey and Ken talking about it while discussing our future as our 2 main center pieces going forward are Tatar & Nyquist

I think you're overestimating how good Tatar is going to be by a long way. He's more of a 60 point winger than a cornerstone of a franchise. Jurco Nyquist and Mantha all have the potential to be much better.

That would be a huge overpayment

#2530677 Mike Green to Wings?

Posted by DickieDunn on 08 July 2014 - 05:50 PM

I can't see the Caps wanting a D in return.  Capgeek has 8 D on their roster, plus any prospects who might be ready.  Andersson, a second tier prospect, and a mid pick could do it.  I don't think Green is worth much more than that.

I'm going to be pissed if they trade Jurco to get him. Of the top young forwards Tatar is the most expendable, but unless something else comes back with Green I don't want any of them traded. Washington won't want Kindl with the number of d they have, but Andersson and a pick plus a mid level prospect would be OK.

Everyone here is aware that Tatar just had a better rookie season than Datsyuk right?  He's also about 200% more gritty than the majority of our team.  How on earth is everybody so willing to trade him away for a project defenseman.  Because that's what Myers is, lest we forget.  A project.  Just like the countless other projects we've acquired over the last five years which haven't panned out.
I, for one, am not willing to move a guy who just scored 39 points buried on our third line (with rookie linemates) for a guy that Buffalo fans affectionately nicknamed "The Gentle Giant".
Trade for someone better, or don't trade.  I prefer the latter actually.  No more shortcuts.  That's what got us into this mess.

More points does not mean better. Datsyuk was quite a bit ahead of him in other areas.

#2530337 MDZ close to signing with wings?

A kid will come in when someone gets hurt. They won't have the rookies rotating through as the 7.

why the heck is Morris still unsigned?

He's old and a 3rd pair D.

There were only 33 people with 100+ PIM last year league wide, the leader was Sestito with 213.  Staying under 100 PIM isn't much of an accomplishment.  He was second on the Jets in PIM, was far and away their worst +/- player, took 38 minor penalties (5 more than KFQ).

BTW in 97-98, 121 players had 100+ PIM, Brashear had the most at 372.

#2530082 Wings to have face to face with Matt Niskanen

Posted by DickieDunn on 05 July 2014 - 09:13 AM

I figured $6 mil per for 7 years for Niskanen. That was pretty close and unless he continues to play like he did last year it's a bad contract. Boyle, Ehrhoff , and Vanek took less to go to teams they wanted to play for.
