#2583565 The Futures of Tatar & Nyquist

Posted by DickieDunn on 20 March 2015 - 09:08 PM

Hudler was redundant because of Tatar and Nyquist were coming in. Filppula was too inconsistent here and needed a change. I'm not going to worry about either of the two current Wings until they get close to ufa status.

#2583283 Team next season?

I don't want to assume too much about why things are the way they are with Weiss, but it doesn't really matter. What matters is that he's been relegated to the 3rd and even 4th line, he's making a lot of money, and he's now worthy of being a healthy scratch even when Datsyuk goes out of the lineup. It doesn't matter if Babcock and management hates him or loves him, or whether Babcock and management are justified or not in the decisions they're making; it's a total waste to keep Weiss around if he's going to be used in this manner. It's not fair to him or the team. Unless something drastic happens between now and then, he needs to be moved this summer.

That's pretty much what I said.

Weiss' biggest issue is Babcock doesn't seem to like him, and when Babcock doesn't like a player he uses him the least amount possible.  He's been fine when he's been given quality linemates instead of being stuck with Miller and Glendening, not worth his cap hit, but a damn sight better than him sitting or being asked to play on the checking line.  He needs to be moved one way or the other i Babcock is coming back though, because right now he's just blocking a player who might actually be used to help the team.

Quincey's expiring contract is a good thing. It allows the Wings to move in a rookie after next year. Kronwall, Ericsson, Dekeyser, and Smith are all unlikely to be going anywhere. They need an open spot.

#2582737 Statistical view of 3 on 3 OT

Posted by DickieDunn on 18 March 2015 - 01:28 PM

Ideal would be 4 on 4, then 3 on 3, then the shootout, and if you lose the game, you get nothing regardless of if it's regulation, OT, or shootout.  The current system awards teams that are good in the shootout instead of just good, and the 1 point was meant to divide the games in case of a tie.  The next best would be make every game 3 points.  3 for regulation win, 2 for OT win, 1 for OT loss.  But that would make teams less bunched up and reduce the parity a little bit and Buttman doesn't want that.

The two most popular athletes in Detroit are the Lions backup QB and Wings backup goalie.

They have an official SJ Sharks dinner set. It has plates and bowls but no cups, and if you use it in May or June, everything falls apart

#2580775 2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

I predict that holland trades the Wings first rounder for 2 more picks and gets 2 players he was considering taking in the first anyway.

#2580717 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by DickieDunn on 11 March 2015 - 10:59 PM

Once Marchenko is cleared he'll likely be reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins. The Red Wings appear set with the six defensemen they've used the past four games and there's no point having Marchenko around as a healthy scratch.

Cement hands?  You mean Helm who has 13 goals, 6th on the team, or Abdelkader who has 17, 4th on the team?  Both are better than one dimensional Pulkkinen.

Last report I saw said he's had 10 concussions in his career. That's a ton. He probably should retire, but it's his call. It also said he might be skating but he's a long way from playing and still has frequent head aches.

Toronto is like the KC Royals but fans think they're the Yankees.

#2579667 Nyquist's RFA Status

Posted by DickieDunn on 07 March 2015 - 10:50 AM

If he signs a one year deal he'd be RFA again.  There is no reason for him to accept a one year deal though, and I doubt Detroit would want to do that either.  If they do and he has another big year, his salary would go up.  Nyquist and his agent will want 2 years, so he can be a UFA as soon as possible, Detroit will push for longer term, and I think he'll end up signing for 4-5 years at $5 mil per.
