#2614914 The Bowman Effect

Posted by LAWings on 17 June 2015 - 08:43 AM

I know you gave this a lot of thought, but there is zero percent chance that the current Wings or any line we have is grittiter then the Grind Line.  The mere name "Grind Line" really implies what they were.  That 4th line pulverized other lines and they could actually score when it mattered.  Our lunch pail kid 4th line plus Abby is just no where near those guys.

I don't know what metrics you are using to determine this, but it seems you are at vast odds with the rest of the community comparing this team to the past teams.

Bowman is an advisor, he is not running the team. This thread is ridiculous

Absolutely not, the point is, Bowman is the golden goose, in 48 years in the NHL, he has been to the Finals 19 times.  I don't care what capacity Scotty Bowman is on your team, special advisor to the GM, janitor in the lower level concourse or jock strap collector, his invaluable advice and experience will be most helpful.  I would prefer to have him on my team in some capacity then not on my team in any capacity.  Statistically speaking, the former is the better option.

Anyone who thinks losing to Yzerman equals winning can exit the thread now.

I am sure that we can all agree that the Wings will not contend the next two years for a cup. On year three is it time to make front office moves to try and get us back to finals contention?

Basically what I see in Chicago is the blueprint that Detroit employed in the late 80s and early 90s coming up from being perennial losers. We got comfortable with winning and I am starting to think we let the wrong people get away and kept the wrong ones. If this is the case then the organization has to go back to the blueprint of trying to hire the best talent even if it means realizing that that current employees within the organization must go.

Several points that tie into each other:

-Someone else sees the Bowman effect and it cannot be understated!  Except for Buffalo, who no one can help, the Stanley Cup follows Bowman and I don't think it's coincidence in Chicago either.  14 Cups in one capacity or another plus another 4 Finals appearances where he didn't win, that's 19 Finals appearances since he started in 1967.  If Scotty Bowman is the janitor in your building, that makes you an immediate Cup contender.

-The decline really picked up when Brian Rafalski left 2 years after Bowman, if you look at the standings and defense numbers.  Not filling it with a proper partner for Lidstrom and getting a top pair Dmen to replace Lids/Rafalski has been a huge problem that everyone knows about and I don't need to rehash it here.

-Ken Holland needs to go.  He doesn't know why free agents won't come to Detroit, he keeps saying there is no one to land on the free market yet all of our competitors have no problems landing free agents (Tampa, Minnesota...).  I think the Illitches need to look hard at moving Kenny, he is unable to keep up with the modern trends and it shows.  Yzerman went to Tampa and has not been afraid to trade core players, and he signed key defensmen, and has turned the team completely around, he looks like a friggin' genius with what he's done the last few years (trading for Bishop, signing Flip, trading St. Louis, buying out Vinnie, signing Hedman, Stralman, signing super huge goalies and defense, that's not coincidence that whole back end is over 6'5", etc. etc. etc.).  Other GMs also have no problems trading and signing, it's time for a regime change, the era of Holland is not working anymore.

#2613164 Khan: Jeff Blashill to be announced new head coach next week

Did we ever get word that the Wings org even talked to any other candidates?

I believe they spoke with Mike Babcock, I'm not sure how that went tho...

#2613095 Khan: Jeff Blashill to be announced new head coach next week

Posted by LAWings on 04 June 2015 - 08:21 AM

...and in today's shocking news, the Detroit Red Wings have hired John Tortorella as the new coach.  Jeff Blashill, who was expected to become the new head coach of the Wings, was actually demoted to the Toledo Walleye.  Said legendary GM, Ken Holland of the situation, "we felt that coaching in the NHL is a man's job, and Jeff although close is not ready yet to take his place among men."  Further saying of the youthful, 40 year old Blashill, "he needs to spend a bit more time working things out before we bring him up.  John Tortorella on the other hand is a proven winner, and will bring a fresh new message that I'm confident the team will respond positively to."  In other news, Daniel Cleary was made head coach of the Grand Rapid Griffins...

It could go something like that. :bye:

#2612954 Retire Sergei Fedorovís Jersey Immediately

I would have no problem with retiring his jersey (after Red Kelly's jersey gets retired)

And Osgood.

And Larry Aurie...

#2540528 LGW Moderator Problems

Posted by LAWings on 13 October 2014 - 05:37 PM

I agree it's so lame for them to delete harmless posts and then lock the thread.  Mods go a little too far "policing", it's not necessary, it takes so much away from this forum because it continually happens.  Just because a mod doesn't share the same sense of humor or even opinions doesn't mean everyone else feels the same.  And if a mod doesn't agree with a post they shouldn't engage in scrubbing the history like it's Soviet Russia then locking and threatening to ban everyone.  It's not like people are posting kiddie porn here...

#2538967 Krys Barch unloads his frustrations

I mean... I'd prefer them to be a few inches bigger and a few pounds heavier and a little more aggressive but since they're not I'm not going to discredit their other abilities.

I sometimes hear this from my girlfriend.

I don't know who Krys Barch is... and when someone tells me who he is, I'm going to become very angry once I understand why he's so angry...

#2538812 23 man roster set... say hi to your 2014/15 Wings

Posted by LAWings on 07 October 2014 - 02:11 PM

We really need this thread? As if this roster won't change a zillion times between now and Christmas. Hell, it'll probably change again before Thursday.

Also, in case you haven't noticed, the best players on the 23 man roster will actually play.

The 23 man roster is decided by Holland. So implying Babcock is a hypocrite is actually kind of naive.

Hi...where exactly are you going with your rant, and why, what's your point?  I've just posted a factual direct link from the newspaper.  Do you beat your dog for alerting you to a fire too?

This is the NHL mandated set roster that needs to be filed by 5 pm today, that's why I created this post, 3 months of speculation is over.  The only rotation in and out of game day this Thursday will be the 3 gray sweaters who may not play of Cleary, Weiss and Nosehole.

But thank you for creating assumptions about a quote someone else made that I posted and what I was 'actually' implying.  I had no idea that was what I was thinking...are you my wife?  You must be my wife.

Maybe they'll resign Bert and Sammy too as insurance policies again.  Putting the band back to together...reminds me of this:

#2529820 Favorite Ken Holland Catchphrase / Quote

Posted by LAWings on 03 July 2014 - 03:41 PM

My vote: "I don't know why they're not coming here" because it demonstrates, more than any of the other quotes, just how out-of-touch Holland seems to be. The league might have passed him by.

This times one billion.
