Do you know what I like about the Red Wings? In my 15+ years as a fan, I've never seen them miss the playoffs, raise four Cups, produce some of the best players that this and any generation will ever see, do the unthinkable and put teams together like 2002 and even the 2008 squad in the salary cap era that missed another cup by one game, a GM who doesn't make knee-jerk reactions and trade assets for rentals and has faith that the team's they have will be successful.
The negativity on this board blows myf****** mind. The Wings haven't had it easy like the Hawks, Penguins and Capitals who have put their fans through hell while piling up draft picks that finally led to some success. They put good teams together with good late drafting and signing key free agents.
No wonder no one respects Wings fans... the comments on this thread just confirm the fact that everyone thinks that they're arrogant, spoiled fans. It's three weeks into thef****** season... knock this s*** off.
I don't care if the Wings win it all or miss the playoffs, I'll continue to watch these guys do this thing and enjoy Lidstrom's potential last season while everyone attempts to kill themselves after EVERY SINGLE LOSS.
Quite possibly the first time I've ever agreed with Jeremy Roenick. I saw on ESPN's bottom line yesterday on the NHL's "Crosby" section that there was nothing new to report. The hell is it even there for, then?
So Abdelkader makes an ass out of himself by embellishing a hit once, and he's just as big of a piece of s*** as Cooke?
where did i say that?
everyone already knows that cooke is human garbage. that's nothing new.
a discussion about the potential that players may intentionally embellish any hit near the head due to the new rules might actually result in some conversation. it just so happens that the most blatant example of that so far was abdelkader. hopefully it was a one-time thing.
I'm changing it up a bit this season and NOT going with a monthly "featured" player (at least for this month, depending on feedback). Oftentimes the addition of a player messes with the layout when adjusting for other aspect ratios, or I have a rough time finding a nice, high-resolution picture to use. I hope you like this year's edition!
I doubt that Laviolette would have gone for this "dry island" idea if he hadn't tried to talk to Richards and Carter first. I'll bet he tried, and didn't get through, and then tried to send a message - only for Carter and Richards to ignore the entire idea. Sounds like good reason to ship them out of town to me.
That's what I was thinking. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure there was (minor) talks with a couple of our guys in recent years (abby, smith) about the way Red Wing's handle themselves off the Ice was there not? Even so I just can't help but think if Bab's went to Lids and Zetterberg with the same idea you wouldn't even hear about it, they would do it for a month as a team and move on. I've been a part of "experiments" like this for hockey as well as in a work setting too. As soon as a couple people dont participate it gives the whole thing kind of a meek out look and works in the opposite way.
Perhaps when Laviolette saw it going this way he should have pulled the plug on the experiment and tried something else? Or maybe I'm looking way to much into something that was never even a problem? Weird scenario to me but alas it doesnt really matter now and I wish Carter and Richards the best of luck on there new teams. Unfortunately we will see them up close a lot more this year!
