#2445836 McLeod suspended 5 games for hit on Kronwall

Repeat offender? Because he's not afraid to let the opposing team know he's on the ice?

It was a joke.

I don't usually include this kind of a thing, but since it's an anniversary...
Sixty years ago tonight, Goalie Terry Sawchuk is cut by the skate on Montreal's Maurice Richard in the Third Period and is replaced by Red Wings' Assistant Trainer and practice golatender Ross "Lefty" Wilson, in the first of what will turn out to be a three-game goaltending career. He plays sixteen minutes, allowing no goals.  000003624.jpg

Who says the education system is failing?  There's a whole group of kids in Canada that can count to six!

#2419283 CHL moving to ban European goalies

Posted by esteef on 11 June 2013 - 05:58 PM

So because European tenders are selected instead of Canadian ones they are making a rule basically forcing teams to pick Canadian ones even though they might not be as good or as qualified as the European tenders?  Smells like Affirmative Action and Diversity laws here in the states.  Two thumbs down CHL.

Give away our depth and our future for one player for one year...yea no thanks.

When I first saw it I thought it went five hole. How does the Barons goalie let that in short side? Jurco's speed must have made it hard for him to stay on his angle

The video doesn't do it much justice, he was absolutely flying.

#2414215 Interesting stat

I think we're seeing a new kind of dynamic developing.  Top teams have their "core" players Pav/Dats, Kane/Toews, Crosby/Malkin etc, the key is the supporting cast around them.  You get a good supporting cast of cheap young players and cheap role players, but then those cheap players leave for for more money and you lose all your depth, so you have to start building your depth again.

I think success is going to go in cycles for the top teams for the forseeable future.

I agree with this, Pavel Datsyuk is equal to two of their best players

The President's trophy team isn't going to lose 4 straight in the playoffs to a 7th seed, with the 4th loss being at home.  Game 5 shouldn't have been a surprise.  Game 6 was our best chance to close the series.  We had the game under control through 40 minutes, then Smith makes a rookie mistake and its tied.  Quincey's stick breaks, we're losing.  Frolik scores on a penalty shot that was a bad call.  It happens, now we have to do it the hard way.  Babcock is right to keep Smith in there.  Its time to look at the bigger picture here.  The experience he's getting from these games will help for many years down the road.  Years when we're not the 7th seed trying to beat the top two seeds just to get to the Conference Finals.
You can say they "choked" all you want, but the success they've had in these playoffs will be felt for years.  Watching guys like Brunner, Nyquist, Andersson, Howard, and Kindl play in these high pressure games and play well, bodes well for us down the line.  Sure Smith is making a lot of mistakes, but he's making some nice plays too and gaining lots of experience.  The guy is only 24 years old playing in his first full NHL season.  Give him a break.  Going into these playoffs I felt like the team had a ton of holes, but after 13 playoff games, I'm not so sure that's the case anymore.

#2414069 Fraser's take on Penalty Shot

Posted by Z Winged Dangler on 28 May 2013 - 03:05 PM

Pav's "trip" on Toews?

Abby thrown face first into the boards by Seabrook in the 1st while on a PP?

Kindl called for interference and then later in the first a Wing was interfered with even more so with no call?

Consistency is all we ask for.

And where was Brunner's penalty shot this series when he got the corkscrew in the hands on a breakaway, or when Roszival two-handed Abdelkader's stick out of his hands on a breakaway that was pointed out in a .gif in the last GDT?  Therefore, Mr. Fraser, the call was flat outf****** wrong and by this series' standards isn't even a penalty.

It is the right call.... IF it is called every time.. thats where the problem lies

#2405825 WCSF Game 1 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 4, (CHI leads series 1-0)

Am I the only one who thinks we didn't play that bad as a team?  For the most part anyways.  Our D wasn't so great and we didn't throw enough rubber at Crawford, but I thought we were good in finishing our checks, being hungry on the puck, and we had good goaltending.  Watching that game, I wasn't pissed off because Chicago dominated us; I wouldn't have made that conclusion.  They played an overall better game than we did, but I've seen much worse on-ice products from the Wings this year than that.  I liked our compete level.

#2404243 22 Consecutive Playoff Appearances Recapped in 22 Minutes

Posted by shaeb30 on 13 May 2013 - 10:49 PM

Hey everyone, I don't post to the site very often, but I do visit almost everyday, and enjoy reading the insight posted by the folks who visit the site. I came across this video tonight that recaps the last 22 years of playoff appearances made by our beloved Red Wings, and felt the need to share with everybody in this hockey community. Hopefully you take the 22 minutes and 22 seconds (ironic, huh?) that it takes to watch the video in its entirety, and enjoy it as much as I did! Go Wings!
