#2142448 Petr Mrazek signs ATO with Griffins

Worth a bump. Pretty excited about this kid.

HIGH PRAISE FOR MRAZEK: Legendary Ottawa 67's general manager Brian Kilrea absolutely heaped praise on Petr Mrazek in an Ottawa Citizen article this week, calling him "as good as" any goaltender in franchise history.

"He amazes me sometimes with his quickness," Kilrea said. "He makes the impossible seem so easy. He never gives up on a play. He will forever make that big save. I can remember maybe a bad goal or two. But I can't remember a bad game."

Mrazek, who signed an amateur tryout with the Griffins after the 67's were eliminated from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs last week, started 52 games this season and had a 2.84 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. He is expected to play another year of junior before turning pro.

"We don't win some of the games we won this year without the best goalie in the league," Kilrea said in the Ottawa Citizen article. "You can crunch all the numbers of any player in the league and no one has been more valuable to his team than Petr. Detroit (Red Wings) made an unbelievable pick."

Woho original-6 meeting that is not hawks-wings, although price HOWARDwill prove to be the difference in this game, the guy is nothing but spectacular.

Fixed that for you.

#2070214 The Red Wings Power Play

Posted by rick zombo on 29 November 2010 - 12:09 AM

You'd always like to be at a 1 out of 4 on the PP instead of 1 out of 5 on the PP.  We have three above average pointmen, it wouldn't shock me at all if we had another above average pintman that we would be top 5 in the league on the PP.  I like our PK a lot, so no complaints there.

We need two different looks on the PP. We're too one dimensional on the PP and after one or two it's easy for the opponents to see what we are attempting to do.  If Ericsson learned that Weber/Souray killer instinct from the point, he'd make and excellent clap-bomber from the point (100+ MPH shot) and would give us two distinctly different looks on our two PP groups.

That's one hell of a way to describe Lidstrom.

Yeah, I won't be watching that.

All time? CBC's Bob Cole is hard to beat. Thorne as well as far as US broadcasters go.

Right now? Jim Hughson gets my vote.

#2060393 Bettman Moving on?

Well, MLB does need a cap.

Cleary and Z are cycling like Lance Armstrong out there. It's beautiful to watch.

The big question is: When will the Jersey un-retire

#2049179 Youngsters ditching the visors

Posted by rick zombo on 18 October 2010 - 11:56 PM

I've noticed that some of the young guns have ditched the visors this year. Zach Bogosian, Jamie Benn, and Davis Drewiske are 3 guys off the top of my head. Good to see the youngsters kickin' it old-school

Anyone noticed any other players that have switched?

I haven't noticed, no. But then again I'm blind. I lost both eyes to high sticks because I wasn't wearing a visor.  :P

#2049177 Illitch "definitely committed" to new downtown arena

Posted by rick zombo on 18 October 2010 - 11:53 PM

I sure hope he does not expect for the City of Detroit to pay for some of it like they did for Comerica Park. If the City was healthy I would be for it but it can barley pay for public services let alone paying for part of a new stadium.

Of course he expects them to pay. That's why he bought the Pistons. He's using the threat of moving the Wings to the suburbs as leverage for city funding for a new rink.

With The Wings and Pistons playing in metro Detroit you get 10,000+ people in that area 100 times a year, spending money. Like Illitch, the city needs to invest in order to stimulate the economy.

The man loves Detroit. If he wants a new rink, I say help the guy out. It will be good for the city and good for long-term revitalization.

#2035787 HBO to film Pens - Caps

Posted by rick zombo on 23 September 2010 - 08:52 AM

This will be fun to watch.

I can't wait to see the montage of Crosby and Ovechkin's pregame rituals. Crosby will be pouring over notes about his opponent while jogging in place and listening to some inspirational 80's music, taking every second seriously and professionally, while Ovechkin will show up to the locker-room late wearing sunglasses with 5 chicks hanging all over him.

#2035218 Pre-Season 9/22 GDT: Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins

Posted by rick zombo on 22 September 2010 - 10:15 AM

Looks like the pens really want to win this important preseason game, both crosby and malkin are in;

Sterling-Crosby-Dupuis
Tangradi-Comrie-Malkin
Wallace-Letestu-Kennedy
Craig-Vitale-Boulerice

Orpik-Michalek
Letang-Strait
Potter-Hutchinson

Powerplay most likely:

Comrie-Tangradi-Crosby
Malkin-Letang

First game in the new barn I guess.
