#2596843 Smith in. Marchenko out for Game 3

Posted by rick zombo on 20 April 2015 - 12:26 PM

I will say this, Smith has shown in the past that he can be more physical then what I saw from Marchenko. That might help.

Plus it puts DeKeyser and Quincey back together. If they can regain mid-season form, then that's a real bonus.

Trying to stay positive here.

Too many defensive mistakes in the neutral zone in game 2.

The solution? Brendan Smith. :eh:

Wonder why Fil never did that here.

Considering his skin makes him look like the old lady in the window from There's Something About Mary, I'd say he just needed more sunlight?

If Abdlekader is back next game, Babcock has to go:

Helm - Datsyuk -Tatar
Nyquist - Zetterberg -Abdlekader
Andersson - Sheahan - Jurco
Miller - Glendenning - Ferraro

And you can make excuses for his system all you want, but if you get the same exact result for five or six years (despite your roster) suggests maybe you need a new approach.

Seemed to work well for Washington and Nashville so far.  Why is it so hard to believe that maybe there's a coach out there who's system is more suited for the roster we already have?

The other option is to fire the GM, team President, scouts, trainers, prospect developers...and replace them with a more Babcockian alternative.  Which is brilliant if it weren't for the fact that Ken Holland's organizational philosophy wasn't DRAMATICALLY more effective than Mike Babcock's.

For the millionth time.  Babcock is a good coach.  But he's not the right coach for this team.  Get someone else, or get the same results.

Totally agree. It's funnyb to me how the media pumps up Babcock and take this automatic tone that Babcock's going to leave the Wings for a better team. Maybe so. But maybe, just maybe, management wants a change as much or more than Babcock does.....

That 2nd line needs to be dissected by Babcock so that they don't continue to get dissected by Tampa.

As pointed out by @ESPNJoeyMac, sure looks like Stamkos bit Quincey during this scrum https://vine.co/v/eztYbnQqbQD

Hopefully Quincey does't get the Foligno Herp.

Whatever happens these playoffs we need to get bigger for next season f*** ... Any chance bruins would give us lucic in a deal involving Tatar or nyquist? Lol
Sadly we have no one that can come in besides abdelkader to knock guys around and cole who's long gone

They don't need Lucic. They need their skill guys to get bigger. Annnnnnnd that's going to happen soon. Mantha, AA, Zander to a lesser degree, Larkin. Then jam a miserable prik like lil Bert in there plus a legit giant maybe and all is good.

Also, If Babcock leaves, they could sign Orr to a two-way deal next season.

Except for Bishop's bed pooping, I can't see Tampa playing any better than they did tonight. Detroit on the other hand. Plenty of room for improvement. Need more out of Nyquist, Tatar, and Sheahan, although it must have been tough for them with all the penalties.

If Mrazek can stay dialled in, this series could be a nightmare for the Bolts.

I feel like a few more Wings fans would automatically upgrade the intelligence of this Lightning home crowd.

Not a single sports writer is picking the Wings in this series. I like it.

#2593155 Brendan Smith

I'm agreeing that Smith has played poorly, I'm saying that it was likely the right decision, so what's your point. That's not to say that either Smith nor Howard are done for the year, or that their done in Detroit or the NHL... like some people seem to be suggesting. The hate on these boards is ridiculous, whether it's Howard, Ericsson, Kindl, Smith or whoever... Everyone likes the new shiny toys, so bring on the kids right? They're sure to be better than we currently have...

Well Marchenko hasn't really done anything dumb yet. So until he does, he's my guy. If Smith can take his job back at some point, then good for him too. I personally have no agenda here, I just want the guys to play that give this team the best chance of winning.

Lol.

Lets look at the number of excuses you can make for ONE, glaring, mistake.

1.It could happen to anybody.

2. It happens all the time.

3. If the refs wouldn't have seen it, nobody would care.

3.It shouldn't have been called.

4.Nobody would care if it hadn't ended in a goal against.

The excuse making for Smith is getting comical.

For me, saying "He screwed up" seems a lot easier than issuing a laundry list of excuses.

Dumbest Wing since Aaron Ward.

And with the help of Cammalleri, who was a man possessed in those playoffs.

I could see a forward getting hot like that long before I could see the D being physical and mistake free.
