You just don't get it. Because you're part of the PC police and also because you want hockey to become the same thing as women's soccer (which is significantly tougher than Men's soccer BTW). Admit it.
Forwards are expected to play defense regardless of the talent level of the D.
Free agents typically get more than they're necessarily worth now. It's a fact of life in the new NHL.
Exactly. If everyone's "overpaying", then no one really is, relatively speaking. It's not like Franson's going to sign for 4M/per while Green goes for 6M/per. If you want to improve a team, especially the D, you have to the big money for guys like Niskanen, Stralman, Green, etc.
The secret is only overpaying for the right guys. Nobody on the market now is worth overpaying.
It's impossible to overpay for the right guys, or they wouldn't be "the right guys". For example, how can anyone say that the Hawks overpaid for Vermette? He was "the right guy" for them. You don't overpay for those guys. You just pay.
You only overpay for the wrong guys. See: Detroit Red Wings and Stephen Weiss.
At least a few people understand the role of a fourth liner. But I'm not surprised the usual flower power fans don't.
I'd trade Anderson and Miller every time for one Peluso and his bargain of a cap hit. So what if he plays 6 minutes a night instead of 8 ..
Awesome. Why don't you explain your definition of a 4th liner to Stan Bowman or Steve Yzerman? You know, the GMs of the two teams that played for the Stanley Cup. I'm sure they'd love to hear your opinion. That's if you can catch them when they're not busy making hemp bracelets and smoking grass. Peace man. Groovy peace.
