They lost to Boston yes, but they didn't get embarrassed. Other then a few empty net goals and 1 really bad game the series was close. Tampa is good, they should continue to progress. It's also possible some players had career years, and will take a step back, and as always injuries happen. My point being is that a lot factors into a franchises continued success. Wings at the moment are upper middle of the pack with room to grow, it's not all so bleak.
Other then that, if Mantha and Larkin are ready they should play if not let them continue to develop.
Enough with this positive, optimistic, flower power talk.
The sad part of Nyquist getting a new deal is that this will probably be the last year of him being a fan favorite, unless of course he significantly improves.
We as a fan base love guys who overproduce for their salary but when they get a salary that's more in line with their production we heap unrealistic expectations on them.
Gus could put up the exact same numbers he's put up the past 2 years and because he'd be making 4-5 million a season instead of his current .95 million a year it will be seen as not good enough
If he has another couple playoffs like his first couple, he'll be in the doghouse with Franzen.
Well said and very true.
But I remember Datsyuk getting railed for sub-par playoffs early in his career. Even after he had won a cup in 2002. The criticism was justified. He and Zetterberg were both too easy to handle vs Anaheim in 03, Calgary in 04, and Edmonton in 06. They never really figured out how to score on the road until 08.
I have no problem with Goose making 4-5M. I expect him to start showing sings adjusting to the playoffs during one of his next two appearances in the post season. It took Zetterberg and Datsyuk three and four tries, respectively, to really figure out the playoffs.
Just thinking out load here. the BL is set. the one big are of need is a #2 C/big RHed winger. As of right now it is easy to see the following lineup:
Lashoff or Kindl
We could keep 8 d or move Kindl/KFQ. If Z is the #2 C then we need a top 6 winger. What we don't have is a big RHed physical guy that scores. We also have helm who is kinda without a true position. he is a checking C when used correctly, but Glendening does the same job for 1/3 the price. We also have the cap room for a big contract.
Thoughts? Hopes? Dreams?
Why do people keep forgetting about Helm? Also, Franzen could be in the line-up opening night.
