#2321949 Predators match offer sheet to Shea Weber

Posted by Seraph on 25 July 2012 - 06:20 PM

Don't fool yourself, people. He didn't care about Philly or Nashville. He cared about using the stupidity of one GM to land himself a fat contract before the CBA is up. Of course he's going to come out and say he loves Nashville and wants to end his career there. I'd say anything you want after landing $110 million dollars.

#2320989 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

Posted by Seraph on 22 July 2012 - 03:11 PM

Time will tell if it's better to wait or scramble when competing for free agents. I think Holland's vision is more long term and he's not willing to pull the trigger unless it's a smart deal. In a sense I see his position. Each team can only support so many of these mega contracts. Minnesota is done. Philly might be done. A lot of the teams are saturated with huge contracts and Detroit may become a more favorable option down the line by elimination alone. The difference maker after multiple years might be which team manages their cap more effectively and ices the more complete team. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

If this is true, we will have officially lost our title as the best player retirement home in the league!

#2318608 Holland Content with Current Roster

If were a huge fan of gaping holes in our defense, then yeah, I would be content with our roster too.

Did he look like he was "having fun," by chance?

#2314971 Has the Detroit diamond lost it's shine?

Are you a fan of the Red Wings or are you only a fan of winning? Every franchise faces challenges. Half the fun is seeing how those challenges are overcome.

Are we as prepared for a cup run as we were five years ago? Are we the number one cup contender? No. Things change, players come and go.

#2314007 Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Posted by Seraph on 03 July 2012 - 09:04 PM

Bravo, LGW for reaching unimaginable levels of hilarity and creepiness. Just got off the evening shift and I found myself cracking up at this anxiety ball, aviation stalker thread. On to another day or two of madness!

#2313474 List of why Zach Parise and Ryan Suter should choose the Red Wings...

Posted by Seraph on 03 July 2012 - 09:50 AM

Red already looks good on one of them and mustard yellow doesn't on another.

#2313251 Still no decision from Suter. Speculation abounds.

I'm also annoyed that millionaires such as these guys are taking so long in making there decisions. The only reason I see why they are doing it is so that their former team will move on from them so that they won't get blamed for leaving and can place blame on the organization instead.

It's a crazy theory I know but what else could it be.

Oh I don't know, because maybe it's potentially a $100+ million dollar decision. When was the last time you made one of those? Also, they're choosing where they will be playing their prime years and maybe the rest of their careers. They are also gambling with their chances of winning a Stanley Cup and deciding which team mates they want to try and do it with. Oh yeah, you might need a couple of days to decide what city you want to be contractually obligated to live in for the next decade of your life. I mean, I would even need some time to think that over and I'm getting paid way less than league minimum, haha.

#2313176 Parise Watch [update x2]: Red Wings OUT of Running

Posted by Seraph on 02 July 2012 - 06:56 PM

Parise was always the icing on the cake, people. Don't get your hopes up. I'm pretty sure if Holland is in his office checking twitter for updates, we're not being as heavily considered. I'm sure the teams he's considering are in active communication with him and his agent.

This board? Panic? No!

#2311356 Hudler to test free agency

Posted by Seraph on 30 June 2012 - 09:18 AM

If we replace him with a more complete, multi-dimensional player then I'm all for it. I don't think he'll get amazing offers on the market so I think we have some time to play with. People know he's a small player with a one dimensional role on a talented roster. If I were a GM I would not expect his point production to keep up on a non-puck possession style team without amazing centers.

Great news. This kid has been working hard for this and deserves it. So glad to see him stay in red.

#2307498 When a Team Relocates, Does it Start a New Franchise?

Posted by Seraph on 15 June 2012 - 10:09 AM

I'm pretty sure part of it is because hockey teams are a type of business. Legally, when they are doing the paperwork, they are relocating the business rather than scrapping it and starting a new one. Plus they tend to keep many of their employees, coaches, GMs, players, during the move, so it makes more sense that way. And when you cite stats, the record for that particular business stands since before the move. After all, the make up of their roster after the move is a reflection of the business decisions of that team several years beforehand. This is much different than an expansion team who is starting fresh. One measure of a good hockey organization is how quickly they get to a cup since inception. That's why prior stats and decisions are considered.
