I'd say it was about the right time for him to hang em up. Congrats on a good career. Hall of fame worthy? I'm kinda on the fence with him imho...

Should the Red Wings Trade for Byfuglien?
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to NerveDamage's topic in General
I don't want to give up our future for the guy, but come on- he's almost exactly what we need. He's a top pairing d-man that can provide offense and a net front presence on the power play, which are the things we've lacked most since lidstrom and holmstrom retired. If we have the cap space to re-sign him, even if it's for a couple years too many, I'd do it. A first, a second, and a prospect isn't much to give up for that... we have more mediocre defense prospects and good forward prospects than we have available roster space for going forward, and datsyuk is gone after next year. -

I would personally like to thank crap teams who need to grossly overpay sub-elite talent in order to keep them there. Now every player of that calibre can use them as an example at to become grossly overpaid arbitration. Thanks buffalo, Columbus, Ryan O'Reilly, and Brandon saad!

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Sorry wrong thread.... But while I'm here, I think green can make a world of difference on this team, but only if he stays out of the coaches dog house for his shortcomings. But that was a Babcock strategy (which I hated) so we'll see. -
this is how I feel as well. We had nothing to lose by giving him one last shot. Waive him if he sucks at the start of the season. If he resurrects his career somewhere else, we'll probably feel pretty stupid. Oh well, hopefully this is the precursor to a bigger move.

So is this guy legit, or what? -
Yeah... If I had even a few grand right now, it would be a life changer. I can't pity his millions or give him any real sympathy at all.

Did this just become awkward?

Retire Sergei Fedorov’s Jersey Immediately

Basically, he's a mediocre checking line forward with a couple moves. He'll probably have one good year and cash in, sorta like martin lapointe. Lol wasn't he captain of the 'hawks? Ooh, maybe he's another kopecky??!?

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
LidstromIsASuperhero replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I think we really need a good offensive defensiveman, even if he isn't the greatest defensively at this point. Kronwall is the only one putting up points right now. I keep hoping Smith will turn the corner, and maybe with some powerplay time he'd deliver, but I never really see him bury his chances or make a great play. -

I'm really starting to think that abdominal injury he was stuck with last year could have destroyed his career. I say this because i merely tweaked a groin muscle at work probably a year ago, and it was never the same. It makes you feel like you can't move in directions or ways you once could, and that strength you relied on to be agile is greatly reduced... jonathan cheecho I think had sports hernia surgies, and iirc Osgood did too. Neither of those guys were the same after.
