Remember when Chicago booed Chelios at his jersey retirement? Wait, was it a jersey retirement? It was something where Chelly was on the ice and Chicago booed him, he had to stop and say "Come on now..." Now that's clASS Chicago. You won't see that here because nobody wishes Blashill wasn't here. Everyone is so excited that they dont have time to be bitter!
Adding to the clusterf*** that is Pronger, not only is he still being paid as a player and as a NHL employee, he somehow managed to get elected into the HOF and he hasn't even retired yet! Now that is some back door, double secret, non-flag throwing back judge, anti-Lions s*** right there!
But, again, what did Cleary expect, did he actually believe he was going to make the team? That Holland was just saying he wasn't going to make it? Did he think, just because Blashill sounds like our former coach, that Blashill was actually him in disguise? I guess when Danny Boy was shaking all those hands three years ago that he forgot to shake one future very important hand....Blashill's. Sorry Danny, you're out! You had a great run, don't feel bad!
Of course, this could have all been in the plan to get him in an office position. Sign him for $950,000, when he doesn't make the team, even though you let him think he may have a chance by giving him some looks in pre-season, then give him a video coach position or maybe be that guy who catches the sweaty gloves in the hall way after the periods and puts them all on the dryer's...
Stop and think back for a moment guys, think back over at least the last 10-15 years. Outside of the 01-02 season (which was marred at the beginning by the 9/11 attacks that took some of the "fun" out of the season openener,) When was the last time you have been more excited and giddy or even seen so much interest and hype for the opening night of a Red Wings season? We've had coaching changes, we've had rookies debut, we've had UFA's making their debut, but just reflect on all that is going on today, and that is exactly it, ALL OF THAT is going on right now! Today! Not only a new coach, but outside of Granato, a new coaching staff and philosophy, not only is a rookie debuting, but a 19 year old local kid who just got drafted 16 months ago, PLUS the rest of our young players like Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Pulkkinen! We're excited for a new life for Smith and Kindl, Howard has regained his pre-injury play, Mrazek is here to stay, no longer do we have an average back-up that may see some spot play once in a while.we, once again, have a legit 1a and 1aa goalie tandem. We have the UFA right handed offensive d-man that Holland has coveted for years and years. We have no less than 8 kids in GR (if not more) who can be called up and step right into the NHL if needed and contribute. We FINALLY have a team where the best players will play and not lose out to the veteran just because of seniority. There is a lot of buzz in Hockeytown this season opener, take a big inhale of it and breathe it all in, this, my friends, is the beginning of our new generation of a Red Wings super team. We witnessed Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom, Kozlov, etc... all grow together as a team and it seems we have a core today that if kept together, can stay together (just like our 90's team) for a long, long time. This area has not been this excited in forever...

Ya Baby! It's here! It's a new world, it's a new outlook, it's a new era, it's time!
In the last 16 months, Dylan Larkin has gone from High School/USHL to Michigan to Worlds to Grand Rapids to Detroit...What a rise to the apex of what his father first dreamed about when Dylan learned how to skate! Haven't we all dreamed of this with our son's, it must be indescribable to feeling right now! Remember when you first tied his skates? Remember him skating with the help of a chair? My oh my, let the tears flow, you have earned it! Congrats to the Larkin Family!

I honestly think that most of the people that would rather have him in GR are so because they really want to see what Jurco and Pulkkinen can do, and he is taking one of their spots. Other than that I am sure most are excited to see him take this extended audition and run with it!

Just a quick bump up for this thread...I thought maybe it'd be cool to see what we were saying before and after Larkin was drafted and compare it to what we are saying today! MODS you can lock this thread if you feel so no one else posts in it, but I just thought bumping it up for this week would strike some nice conversation from what we all initially thought of the pick.
