So much for that "the hammer and the nail" analogy by the Blackhawks beat writers. If Howard stays strong, and we keep our composure and let idiots like Bickell and Shaw take as many penalties as they want to screw their own teams, we're in good shape.

He has been solid. I mentioned in the GDT the same thing.
With the growing pains that Smitty is going through, I can see next years 6 starters looking like:
Kronner - Big E
Q - Diesel
Kindl - Cola
Smitty
Smitty will come around and by 2014-15, he will be in the starting 6 again full time...until then Cola is working out nicely...thus far.

As much as I would love to see Tootoo in to wipe the ice clean with Bickell and Shaw, putting him in after the implosion of the Hawks last game would only show a sign that you mean to be more aggressive and that would draw unwanted attention to your team thus resulting in a penalty every time Tootoo even looked at a Hawk....

Anybody think Parise and Suter are sitting somewhere kicking themselves right now?
Parise isn't that is for sure he was never even offered a contract anywhere NEAR what he got. Suter, on the other hand, who had the verbal agreement to play in Detroit is damn well biting his lip at home right now... Ryan, just keep your mouth shut or the wife will cut you off...just take your medicine for the next 100 years playing in hockey oblivion. Enjoy that extra $80,000 you got from Minny. Oh ya, enjoy your in-laws even more since it was your wife that wanted you to play in her hometown. Have a ball!
He could been a part of this growth on the Detroit defense. It sure would have made one of our guys expendable, and I am so glad we aren't strapped to that contract for 13 years, but ya, he probably feels a little upset...
side story: I remember in July 2001, JR verbally agreed to play for Philly (before July 1st) and admittedly said years later that "Detroit offered me the same exact contract but I chose Philly because I felt they had a better chance to win the Cup...I didn't know they were going to get Hasek, I probably would have chose differently..."

This season and playoff has been such a joy thus far! It's been a long, long time since Wings weren't expected to win anything. How fast that the last 21 years of dominance that spoiled most of us is erased in one half season and the new age fans are experiencing what us old timers went through in the 90's. A team growing together, losing together and learning to win together! No longer are the most of us spoiled....every win is a bonus, it's been a LONG time since the overwhelming feeling was if we don't win the Cup, we still had a successful season!
I am going to refrain from calling this a rebuild or even a reload...I am calling it the REBIRTH of the Detroit Red Wings...

Hey, I started the X posts thread and made it X=321 because I felt the Wings would win 3-1....ya me!
I like how even though the Hawks had the refs in their back pockets all game, they burned their bridges with them at the end of the 3rd. BTW, I thought the Ducks were out of the playoffs? F'ing baby ass pieces of crap these Hawks are... Toews got his way with the refs not calling jack pookie on the Hawks all game long...Wings had 2 PP into the 3rd to Hawks 5. There was a PLETHORA of non-calls, Smith took a flying elbow to the head in the 1st, Abby had his stick hacked out of his hands on a breakaway, the Franzen non-call (even though I think he tried to play it up a bit.) It was a hit from behind and should have been a boarding call, but Franzen did embellish it just a bit. It's nice that even with the Ref's so obviously trying to give Chicago the game, the Wings still kicked ass... This may have been the straw that broke the back of the Hawks...They should know by now that the Wings are for real and just because they are the #1 seed and won all 4 games against us in the regular season and went like 23 games without a regulation loss means nothing to the Wings...

Ok, I just got back from doing stuff all afternoon....I am assuming we reached the 321 posts for a win?
Anyhow! 3-1 Wings! Lets Go Red Wings!
I still am having a hard time believing that we will win this series. Win tonight and I will really be second guessing my Hawks in 6 prediction. I think even if we take this series to 7 games it will be a success. The more Wings hockey I get to watch the better!
We weren't supposed to make the playoffs according to MOST NHL experts....we were not supposed to win against Anaheim...we aren't supposed to be in the same rink as Chicago...This is already a successful season, every extra win is bonus and another serving of crow to the NHL experts... I hope we take the series, and I am confident if the team that showed up Saturday shows up every game, we will.
Both Jimmy and Hank are having a Smythe playoff....

Notice that after his goal he seemed to exude a bit more confidence out there. He just looked like he had a bit of a monkey lifted off his shoulders today...A game like today where he was really down on himself and then felt the euphoria of netting the game winner can do wonders for his mental state and help mold him into the player everyone was touting him to be over last summer... You MUST lose to learn to win. You learn by mistakes and only get better. If people weren't meant to make mistakes, God would not have created erasers. You may go through your first couple of pencils quickly, but with every mistake erased and life's lessons learned, eventually the eraser last longer and longer and longer...until finally you have the experience and the confidence to use a pen!

Why did you have to bring up Sid. The discussion was about Val. Does everything have to be about Sid? If Sid is "the greatest player in the world" why has he never even been a finalist for the Selke? You would think that the "greatest player in the world" would also win the Selke every year. DATS is the greatest.
Whoa, easy man....without going back through the pages of this thread someone had said that if that was Sid that scored that goal it would been replayed on NBC X amount of times already...which is what I said in the first line of my post of the vids, which you obviously chose to ignore. Instead all you saw was someone mention Sidney and decided to try to incite a war over it. You are talking to one of the biggest Sid haters in the world, which is why I chose to show Val scoring two goals that are rarely equaled by Sid. In which the point of my post was to say how much Val deserves some similar TV time to Sid because of todays goal, yet he won't get it.
So, if you would have read the post instead of just trying to flame me since I mentioned Sidney, you would've gotten that. I never said he was the greatest player of all time either...
So, back to the topic of the game and the goal, it was a great goal by Val that deserves to be shown over and over again on NBC and TSN.

Well, I see that someone earlier mentioned that if it were a certain other player who made that shot, it would be non-stop playing on NBC and TSN all day and night...Lead me to start looking around for some super goals by "him."

Sid has had some amazing goals and even though I have looked and looked, I haven't found ANY that are much better if at all than these two by Val. Sure Sid has some, and they are great highlights, but that is expected of him, Val's goals are equally amazing. 
$6M amazing, nah! 
Not saying Val is as good as Sid, but he deserves some well deserved NATIONAL press time for this goal...it was every bit as equally amazing as any of Sids I could find...

Don't these players ever learn? When they complain about not getting calls in the hopes that they are "politicking for more calls to be made" they end up getting more calls against them and even less against the opposing team...It's as certain as death and taxes... Thank you Porky, even though we are struggling on the PP, it'll be nice to have your team only have 4 guys out there for about 16 mins next game...
I couldn't believe it when even Edzo admitted that he "might" have embellished a bit for that call.

Really? Wow.....the kid is in his first FULL year. FIRST EVER NHL Playoff's. On a team where he is #3 defenseman as a rookie....PLUS HE JUST SCORED!
He will grow into a great player, have patience...
