Fortunately I didn't have to look at him from below the wing. He was riding in style in 1st class though!
In all seriousness, it would be great to have him return to a better form. I do wish for nothing but the best for all of our players...yes, even Franzen. But if there wasn't someone to complain about how fun would debates be?
BTW, in my 25 years at Metro, and meeting hundreds and hundreds of players (NHL, NBA and NFL)(especially in the early to mid 90's when only two NHL teams had planes and the rest all flew Northwest (#screw Delta)) the ONLY player I wanted an autograph from (and got) was #24 Bob Probert!
Yes, I work for THE major airline at DTW. Yes Dan Cleary went to Denver, but it was NOT in a trade. He was on a flight I was working. He took his Golf Clubs, Equipment Bag, Sticks and of course regular suitcase. I was just excited for a minute HOPING to log on here and see that a trade package had been made. (even though I know he has a NTC, but like I said, one could wish! )
I am assuming that he is probably doing something in the Denver area for charity or just going to skate with some others while he is out there. When I bumped this thread I was half way making fun, even though he did go to Denver....just not traded. (as far as we know yet! ) Maybe he is out there taking a physical and seeing if Colorado wants him. Maybe he waived his NTC to go to the Avs. Like I said, one can wish, right?
In all seriousness, this is no contest. Yzerman and Fedorov, hands down, all day long, all week long, all year long...etc...etc...
I love Pav and Z, but if Yzerman and Fedorov were able to play in this no obstruction era, I cannot imagine the points they would have put up. I believe Pav and Z would've done fine in 90's, but not as good as they do now and I believe nowhere near what Yzerman and Feds would do today...
where is Ferraro and Callahan at ? Oh ya, gone to GR, or worse, waivers. Both deserve a spot over Cleary. I really hope they clear waivers. I know they only played a couple games, but would hate to lose them for zero.
I'm hoping this positive experience with Marchenko will warm the Wings to taking more Russian born players. I think we have passed on some real talent in the past due to the russian factor.
taking nothing away from Nick and Homer, which are by far the best Swedes we have had. Z is up there as well, but this team accomplished far more with Russians than the recent influx of Swedes. I am not sure why they started shying away from Russians compared to before...did the talent pool dry up?
Live.....March 26th, 1997. For me that was game, set, match. Of course the night Stevie Lifted the Cup for the first time. I was at work and couldn't tear myself away from the TV to go home. But in person, it hands down is March 26th, 1997.
I said its too much so he better get 20-30 goals to prove he is worth it. If he never gets 20 then its way over payment. Closer to 30 and he is worth it for sure! In the end I am glad he is still a Red Wing! Go Tatar!
What we should do is change the subject of the topic to "If the Wings stay relatively healthy all year, what are you predictions?"
Like I said, if the oft injured players all play 70+ games, it can be nothing but a better year. If that indeed happens, then I can see a 4th or 5th place playoffs spot for sure, if not higher. Jimmy has to be pushed to higher expectations though...he has to carry us.
Zombo, there is nothing wrong with being disappointed in Holland. I simply said Booth was a hometown kid, more than likely gave Holland a call because most hometown kids do dream of playing for their childhood team. But Holland is happy with his team and won't do another thing until he signs Alfie.
BTW David Friggin Booth is tons better than Dan s***stain Cleary. Booth has proven to have chemistry with Weiss and that kind of chemistry is valuable around this league. I was not saying that Booth was going to be the savior of this team, but I'd rather have Booth and 30-40 points at $1.1M than Cleary and his 10 games at $2.75M and probably 0-5 points. Just saying. And btw, where in my post did I say Holland is a bad GM? So, when you decide to comment on someone's quote, make sure you are quoting the correct post.
Cleary is making more than Booth too? Hey Holland, Booth is a local kid, has some chemistry with Weiss, he just signed for $1.1M... I am just baffled. Baffled. Why the hell wouldn't Holland give Booth a 1 year try? All these guys that are getting bought out are signing 1 year deals for the cheap to earn the next big deal. You have to figure Booth's camp called Holland. Holland could have had him for pennies, now when he is a UFA next season, he will get a huge raise...He obviously didn't go to TO to win a Cup next year (like Heatley is trying to do and Richards as well.) He was looking for a job to earn a fatter paycheck next season and Holland isn't even answering phone calls he is happy with his team and waiting to sign Alfie. I get more and more mad everyday watching quality (not high end, but quality) talent go elsewhere for less money than Cleary and #KFQ signed for...and ALL better than Cleary and #KFQ...
Sorry guys, its just so hard not to get frustrated and confused...
