#2577617 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by LeftWinger on Yesterday, 02:01 PM

Ya, all of Pulk, March and Jurco will all be "sent to GR" on paper, in order to qualify them for the AHL playoffs.  They will be "recalled" after 3PM when the roster limits are no longer set at 23, as long as they fit under the cap.

I cannot say how happy I am right now, these are two types of trades that add the right combo of what a team may need to get them over the top.  All these teams "loading up" have a s*** ton more to lose if they don't win a Cup, and guess what? Last I heard only ONE team can still win the Cup, so there are 4-5 teams that loaded up this week, that are going to kicking themselves in the ass...Chicago better win this year, becuase if they don't, they are facing the same situation as 2010, they will need to dump salary to get under the cap.

What Holland did the last 24 hours just proves that he is still one of the best. I may be biased, but if you are couting what was sent in retrurn today, Detroit cam out near the top of the "winner" chart.  I am very critical of Holland (to say the least) but today it just proves how much I should be less critical of him.  Look at the last few years of drafting and todays deadline.  Sure he paid too much for Legwand last year, but he HAD to, there was almost no way of making the playoffs with Andy as your #1 center. He tried for the Olsen twins, he tried for the big names last July, he stood his ground last year and this year when everyone wanted Mantha (and now Larkin.)  This may not be a Cup winning day for us, but it was definitely a playoff push move.  These guys bring experience that could push us further into the playoffs we have been since 2009.

Cheers to Ken Holland! Welcome to Hockeytown Erik and Marek!

just want to give a huge kudo to Kenny for not caving in a trading our top prospects! He made the team better with both Cole and Zidlicky! Lost nobody of significance doing so either! Thank you Kenny! Lets Go Wings! Bring on the NHL!

#2576774 Red Wings acquire Erik Cole, conditional 3rd from Stars

Posted by LeftWinger on 01 March 2015 - 07:52 PM

Janmark was falling down the prospect list, Backman already left for Sweden.  Look at it this way, Cole and a 3rd for a 2nd.  Neither Janmark and especially Backman were going to see time in Detroit for any significant time.

I think we won this trade for the "now."  Cole will help us more now than the other two guys....besides, Franzen is done and/or about to be traded, Kenny needed to address that spot.

For the record when Franzen gets traded I will be dancing on the ceiling!

This is a departure for me, but I am SO GLAD that Holland isn't budging on Larkin/Mantha and 1st.  These trades are way too expensive. Still guys left out there that he could go after, we'll see!

interesting, Toronto wanted to take Franzen in trade for Phanuef...Holland said no! Guess he's expecting playoff 08 Franzen to make a return! :ninja: wonder what else they wanted with Franzen...

#2574792 Is Jimmy Our Playoff Goalie?

Posted by LeftWinger on 25 February 2015 - 01:55 PM

Yes, he will be the PO starter, but I believe Mrazek will be in WHEN Jimmy s***s the bed.

That being said, Jimmy has a ton to prove this playoff. $5M+ to lose ALL the big games is asinine. If/When Jimmy s***s himself again, he should be traded in the off season.  NTC or not, he can be convinced to waive it.  Re-sign Monster and he will back up Mrazek. Jimmy is the main reason they lost in Anaheim, and he was the reason they nearly lost in Dallas. s***ty goals given up when his team depends on him.

If Howard doesn't play for another three weeks, I won't lose any sleep...........Literally.  If not for him, we'd all get 20 minutes of more sleep tonight.

if not for Howard, we'd be in first overall in the NHL.

all three of those goals are on Howard. No doubt. This is why Howard will never be a Cup goalie. Worst rebound control in the world. Bring Mrazek back up. Howard blows.

...which means Holland will pull something noone is expecting.....Wiz please. IMO that would be the best acquisition at the least cost. Along with being an upgrade to what we have. I am with Kip though, I won't get my hopes up too much, and pray he doesn't get traded for a 4th round pick that Holland refused to give up, then I will be a bit upset.

#2573570 Zetterberg leaves after 2nd Period; "upper body injury"

Posted by LeftWinger on 22 February 2015 - 03:43 PM

What are you talking about? Ericsson hit him with his purse...kind of reminds me when Lidstrom got run in Colorado and Downey didn't do anything.....oh wait.  NOBODY should be able to take shots at your captain that way. Somebaody, anybody should have dropped their gloves. That s*** HAS to happen!

Ya, that's the exact quote I put up a few posts earlier. While, at the time, it sounded like a diss of Holland and Detroit, it really was more of just saying that because of Lidstrom, et al. taking discounts all the time, Detroit also expects most UFA's to do the same.  BUT, most UFA"s that did so, figured out that playing for less in Detroit was way worth it because of it's dedication to winning every year, all the time. Most UFA's that come, stay for a long time after their initial contract. I would have loved to have Wiz back then and would most certainly welcome him here on March 2nd, at the right price...

Chris Chelios had harsher words to say about Detroit, yet Holland still wanted him and got him.  Wiz didn't say Detroit "lowballs" he said they don't pay market value.

-for me, knowing Detroit's history, they don't really pay the market value or a defenseman or any player.  So I didn't think that was going to be a fit for myself.

Detroit had said they didn't want to pay the terms that Wiz got back then.  With the market up, and the demand high for a RH'r (especially here) and with the contracts they handed out to Ericsson and Quincey, or example, I think if they were able to acquire Wiz for minimal damage in return, they would gladly pay him his $5.5M now or the rest of his contract.

I almost want to put Pulk in with Mantha/Larkin.  I know you got to give up something big to get something big, but if its going to cost us the AHL's leading scorer, the hardest shot on our team, I'd rather take our chances during UFA sweeps to land a defender and keep our top prospects.  I know I am usually asking for a trade just because, but I think Pulk should stay a Wing.  Our D has grown this season, everyone and their mother's said they would be near the worst D in the league, it's been quite the contrary.  It's actually been our O that has hurt us more this year, and, yes, our goaltending...in shootouts.  If our guys could score in the shootout more often and Jimmy could shake that monkey, we'd be in 1st place by a long shot.

I, too, agree that Holland should throw a curve ball at the other GM's and upgrade his O. Who that is or at what cost? Not sure, but I still hold steady on not trading Pulk. And yes I know Yandle is an offensive d-man and would provide more offense during the game, but I am talking top 6 forward.  I believe, although not without their little hiccups, our D is fine for now.  If Holland could address both, that would be great, but that would cost way too much.

#2570896 Next Number to be retired

Posted by LeftWinger on 15 February 2015 - 11:41 AM

It's a no brainer that #91 is going up.  It doesn't matter what happened in the past, the realtionship is smoothed over.  Sergei is part of the Alumni Association, he has close relationships with the upper brass again.  Not that they are best buddies, but I do believe any hard feelings between the two parties are far over.  Without getting into the debate of the contract offer, then the lessor offer later, it was more the organization's fault for Sergei leaving, than Sergei just wanting to go.  No one can deny that without Sergei, we don't win any of those Cups...maybe 2002, but even then, he was a very instrumental in winning that Cup.  IMO, no Fedorov, no Cups. #91 goes to the rafters, it's the right thing to do.

#2570357 Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

I'd actually like to see if indeed Buffalo is throwing in the towel, how much it would take to get Bogo here.  Maybe a couple of picks and a prospect?
