#2613283 What changes do you think we'll see with Blashill?

Posted by LeftWinger on 05 June 2015 - 04:07 PM

...and Q is NOT good. He was not worth a 1st round pick, and he is not worth the $4.25M.  I take that back, in this market, he is, but not in the real world of non-inflated salaries.  But whatever, he did get better as the season went on, but with the way our D played in the 2nd half, did he actually get better or did the others play down to him?  We wouldn't miss him, and K is more offensive minded. IMO, having Franson, Green and Kindl in the starting 6 is better than having Q in there. That would also give you 3 pairs of dual role players, Kronner, Green and Kindl would be your O minded guys and Franson, Ericsson and Dekeyser would the D minded guys...perfect setup.

Helm and Abby are good, but they are not top 6 guys.  If you aren't going to put offensive minded guys in the top 6, then trade them, because Jurco and Pulkkinen are NOT bottom 6 guys.  Keep Abby and Helm in the top 6 and trade Pulk and Jurco then.

People seem to forget ALL the games where we couldn't score goals or even get shots on the net, you will never realize the potential of Jurco and Pulk while playing with Glenny and Andersson as their centers. Abby and Helm have great chemistry with all the guys in the bottom 6 and most likely would make those lines better.  Continue to use Helm on top PK lines and Abby on top PP lines, that is fine, but we are wasting the talent of Pulk and Jurco if they are out there playing 5 minutes a game and in a checking role. No offense to Abby, I like the guy, I live 30 miles north of Muskegon, he is an icon over here.  I know Jurco and Pulk haven't proven anything yet, but that is because they were stuck in the bottom 6 with our last coach. BOTH players were drafted because of their offensive capabilities. Sure they need to play both sides of the puck, but they are more O than D.

I give Abby all the credit in the world for scoring 23 goals amongst 44 points, but both Pulk and Jurco have the potential, with the skills they have, to get near 30.  Sure, AHL doesn't always convert to NHL, but the one thing I hated about out last coach was the way he utilized certain players.  If Blash is anything like him, then we all know line combos will change a million times over the season.  I just would like to see both Pulk and Jurco put in positions to take advantage of their particular skill set.  Demoting Abby is in no way knocking him, it's almost a compliment because his skill set allows him to be that versatile.  He would make the bottom 6 better, besides, if Jurco is on the 3rd line with Sheahan and Helm, is that truly a bottom 6 line? I understand I actually have Jurco on the 3rd line, so technically, he is in the bottom 6, but by numbers only. That line could be a great two-way line, with Helm 's D and Sheahan's two-way along with Jurco's offense potential.

lest we forget the horrible teams Roy and Brodeur played for...those teams were just as good if not slightly better than us during that era.

I believe they both need to be up in the rafters.

#2612108 Vote for Mrazek for best play of playoffs

Mrazek winning...nice to see Nyquist won the regular season POY.  We got talent boys and girls! Next up Calder for Larkin or Mantha or AA or Bertuzzi! LOL! If they come up in different years, then how about all 4!

#2611351 The return of The Mule?

Posted by LeftWinger on 29 May 2015 - 08:48 AM

Kip, no new leaf per say, but when I realized that it was head issues due to concussions a couple years back, I kind of let up on him a bit.  I was really hard on the guy before that.  I was really only hard on him the last couple of seasons because he kept wanting to play when he had no business (health-wise) being on the ice.  My buddy Dan skates with a couple of the trainer's for the wings in a pick up hockey league and he told me a couple a seasons ago that they believe it was head issues.  We all pretty much figured that as well, but me personally, I thought at first that it was head issues in the sense that he really lost interest in the game.  But when it came out that it was concussion issues, I kinda backed off.  I do wish he could beat this and go back to 25-30 goals again, but history shows that it just doesn't ever work out that way...

I am sure he will go to training camp with full intentions to be playing, I just hope he doesn't hinder his health or the team in the process.  He will need to make a decision soon enough so the Wings aren't exposing good young talent to the waiver wire to save him a roster spot.

I know what everyone here is expecting to hear from me, BUT, I really would like to see him back 100% and scoring 30 goals again. If he could, then that would eliminate the need to get more offense this summer.  Before his issues, he was a top 6 guy, but then shortly after the contract he started with his concussions and has not even been a shell of himself since.  For his health and family I hope he makes the right choice, even if he goes through camp and feels good, you know there are players out there that will target his issues and lay a huge hit on him first chance they get.  This is said very often for those with concussion issues, but it speaks volumes, one more hit and he could have permanent brain damage.  What's more important, the game or the children? Don't make it so you cannot enjoy your children and don't be selfish and become a lifetime burden on those children by becoming unable to function by yourself and needing a lifetime of assistance.  IMO, hang em up, but I do wish him the very best.

#2609773 Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season

Posted by LeftWinger on 22 May 2015 - 05:17 PM

Yes, but when Pulk was out there with Dats, he scored.  He is a top 6 sniper, that is his role.  I'd rather him stick with Dats and become a huge threat than see him rot on the 4th line.  I have no doubt Blash will play the kids a bit differently than Babs did.  But you're right, you must earn that spot, and if he struggles, then change it up.  Heck, Jurco is known for his hands and scoring ability (before he got in the dog house) maybe he could it up there with Dats.  He is a bigger body as well...  My point is, I don't want to see Abby and Helm in the top 6 when far better offensive players belong there, and that is what makes me so excited for the coaching change, a new approach to players.

#2609663 Babcock says good-bye in full page ad. SIAP

Posted by LeftWinger on 22 May 2015 - 11:08 AM

Hopefully the first time TO is in Detroit, the organization puts together a nice presentation for him, so the fans can cheer and say goodbye.  Maybe just his picture on the scoreboard and announcer saying that the fans and team would like to thank him for 10 years of great hockey!  Crowd erupts, Babcock cries, then Mrazek shut's out the leafs....perfect night.

I've believed all along and even spoke about it on 97.1 The Ticket, Detroit/Holland had the upper hand the entire time, either they keep Babs or have Blashill in hand.  No doubt in my mind that Holland pretty much knew this was happening, at least was 90% sure.  I don't doubt Blash is named to be the next HC today.  Blashill has to be flying high right now!  I am too! At least Blash should play the kids in the right spot and not put players in the top 6 that don't belong there!  Jurco and Pulkkinen will prove that they belong higher than the 4th line!

I am not going to be the one to start it, but someone start a thread about what you want to see out of a Blashill run Red Wings team!

I for sure look forward to NOT seeing Abby and Helm in the top 6! Oh, and E in the top 2!
