In Topic: Randy Carlyle relieved of his duties by Leafs

06 January 2015 - 10:45 AM

Desperation move by the Leafs to do this now. IMO.

edit to add: If Babcock's stupid enough to go to the Leafs, then let him go.

Nothing can save that franchise, and their media and fan base are very much the problem. Plus they hire s*** personnel because they may be a friend or "former" superstar or "former" successful management guys. But nothing can help that team. Horrible drafting, horrible hiring, one of the worst teams in terms of depth in the league - especially their farm and overseas. I mean BUFFALO and CAROLINA are in better long term shape.

As for Babcock - there is ZERO chance he will go north. He might want a change of scenery, more money, more control or whatever else, but the man is NOT stupid and even with Shanahan up there, it's not a big secret their team is in shambles top to bottom. No plan, just like their Toronto Raptors who win almost by accident with MLSE as owners. The Leafs just figure they are a great organization because they are based in Toronto - hockey central for Canada.

I thoroughly enjoy watching such an arrogant city [why?] lose and lose and lose. As recently as yesterday, they were fawning over Tie Domi's son on Team Canada - all because Domi was a Leaf and is considered one of their best ever! LOL. The local media wouldn't shut up about him. He is a decent player but superstar in the making? Nowhere I have read.

All signs point to Babcock leaving but bet your last dollar it will not be to Toronto. Their media is ridiculous. Babcock will look at 28 other teams first.

In Topic: Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

Eakins is NOT the man for the job. And this losing - whoever's side you're on - is gonna bite the Oilers in the ass for a few seasons if this nonsense continues.

He gets into it with the media - fine. Nothing new there. but he also gets into with the players - in front of the fans and he isn't very respecting of the Oilers history, or at least that's what they're saying out west.

Whether or not this is Eakins fault, he's gotta go. And it's only making hockey fans more confused as to why one the greatest franchises is allowing this crap to continue. The kids looked confused most nights out there. Who is their leader, because Eakins has lost them already. 2 seasons and he's proven he can;t cut it.

You never wanna see the Oilers or Habs in such disarray, being 2 of the greatest franchises sports have seen.

In Topic: Wings great Gordie Howe resting after 'serious stroke'

29 October 2014 - 07:53 AM

Sad news. Gordie has lived a long, illustrious life.

I hope he lives out his last years down in TX surrounded by his family and friends and not in too much pain.

Boy oh boy, to be stricken with Alzheimer's - forgetting those around you day by day is really, really tough.

Prayers to him and his family.

Great character win. They stayed with it, and OT rewarded them.

To beat the pretenders from Pittsburgh - who were falsely handed a Cup in 2009 they never earned - what a great night. Did Crosby cry again? Did he call his momma? Phaneuf and Crosby see each time they face Zetterberg what the C really means. But they never learn.

I'm pretty sure the Illitch's, along with the other successful owners, don't like shelling out millions to support a failing business regardless if they can use that money to add more players, it's still their money.

The salary cap doesn't exist to bail out teams. It exists, because in a perfect world, similar salary structure equals competitive teams. It doesn't always work out that way but  that's why teams have them. Not so there is extra money to bail out teams.
