#2544159 10/23 GDT : Penguins 3 at Red Wings 4 (OT)

Posted by motorcitykid on 24 October 2014 - 07:21 AM

Great character win. They stayed with it, and OT rewarded them.

To beat the pretenders from Pittsburgh - who were falsely handed a Cup in 2009 they never earned - what a great night. Did Crosby cry again? Did he call his momma? Phaneuf and Crosby see each time they face Zetterberg what the C really means. But they never learn.

#2539201 Kindl on the block

Posted by motorcitykid on 09 October 2014 - 08:01 AM

Only question : Who'd take a 27 y. old, No. 6 D-Man @ 2.4 a year ? Any ideas around the board ? I don't see a team picking him up.

Dare I say but Kindl - as frustrating as he is - is not a 6th man on most NHL teams. And if he ever rounds into the form we thought he could, he will be a real good player for whichever team gets him. I like the kid, but he needs to be somewhere else. It isn't going to happen here, and the waiting is only making the fans dislike him, and leaving the team waiting and wondering, and that's going to be a distraction at some point. I wish him luck, but we need XO in the lineup. I hope it works out.

Hopefully those calls aren't "Sure we're interested in taking Kindl off your hands, but you'll need to sweeten the deal a bit.  How about that Mantha kid?".

One word: untouchable.

#2512843 ECQF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Bruins 4 - Series tied 1-1

Posted by motorcitykid on 21 April 2014 - 08:27 AM

The thing is the Wings should not and can not engage into the physical stuff, the Bruins and everyone else knows it. So what are they trying to do run our guys over and hope for a reaction not rocket science but effective.

One thing to keep in mind other teams will have problems against this team too they are the best team in the east for a reason, so no shame in losing against them.

Best team in the NHL yet the doom and gloom in here like we lost to the friggin Maple Laughs.

A split is what we needed. We win 2 there and that's HUGE, but we got what we expected.

The team needs to quit trying to match Boston with physical play, play our game, let the refs [hopefully, maybe, probably not though] call the game properly, and go to the net. But fact is Boston simply could not go down 2 games in this series and expect to win. So they went out there and WON! I got no problem with the game, but if we play into their hands on Tuesday then maybe we can start bitching.

Franzen is invisible but Babcock is hopelessly devoted to the veterans that have got him here before. I can't see Franzen staying this s***ty all series ... I hope I am right.

Wings will be fine. And Chara was slow to drop the gloves .... cause he was doing Smith a favor? Yehhhhh right. Mucho respect to Smith yesterday getting pounded and pounded and never giving up.

Home ice is ours, no excuses about refs, Babcock's lines or physical play. This isn't soccer.

#2467691 Ericsson out 3-5 weeks with Fractured Ribs

Posted by motorcitykid on 25 December 2013 - 12:47 PM

It sucks that Sochi is this year. The timing is just awful. Just as players are retuning from injuries they will be leaving for Russia. And the cold, the travel, and half Sweden being Red Wings is a horrible combo.

There might be something to these injuries each year. Yes, guys get hurt, and yes some of our guys are older, but these injuries seem almost commonplace for the Wings the past few years. Frustrating as hell.

This means 5 weeks of more Kindl damn! I was getting used to him off the team with the last two games.

Kindl is far from our worse d-man. These remarks are silly (and YES we know about his +/- numbers). Smith is a decent puck mover with a bit of offensive flash, but the mistakes made in our own end are similar to a first year rookie - who is just learning the NHL game. Quincey ... ughhh ... just because he knew the system as a former Wing we brought him back. His payback to the organization is nowhere near good enough for all they have given him.

Defense depleted by injury? That's Brett Lebda music!

Anyone remember the Lilja / Lebda first line defence pairing a few playoffs back? SMH

#2456623 What is Samuelsson's role?

Posted by motorcitykid on 22 November 2013 - 11:34 AM

Wrist shots to the other teams jersey crest? Offsides? Turnovers? Standing around and getting caught out of position? Increasing the blood pressure of Red Wings fans [just like Dan Cleary] who'd rather see a young prospect in his spot?

Did I win?

#2414304 WCSF Game 7 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 2 OT (CHI wins series, 4-3)

Posted by motorcitykid on 29 May 2013 - 08:59 AM

No worry here. I do NOT expect any passengers tonight. We also have two of the very best players in the world in #13 and #40 - who time and again have shown they know how to lead and know how to finish the job. And the best coach in the game will have these guys prepped and ready - it's all on them to complete the task.

The guys below them need to remember that while careers always seem like there's another tomorrow - and you will always get another chance at a Cup - those careers come and go so very quickly and you NEVER know how many chances you are going to get. Too much talking going on over there in Chicago's room and too much blame being passed around during and after a loss. I do NOT believe they are as united as we are. And again - we weren't even suppose to be here. That tells you all you need to know about US VS THEM mentality.

It is destiny for this team to meet LA and force goalie Jonathan Quick's return to earth. I do not believe he is that good [it was the Sharks!].

I will love this team no matter what happens tonight, but we are on the edge of something very special here, and only 9 W's away from the Cup. We can do it.

For Mister Howe. For The Captain. For Vladdy.

                                 GO WINGS!!!

#2399224 WCQF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Ducks 3 (OT) - (ANA leads series 3-2)

Posted by motorcitykid on 08 May 2013 - 09:02 AM

A great 24 hours:
Penguins lose. Crosby crying. *check*
Canucks lose and go home, the overrated clowns they always are. *check*
Leafs blaming the refs for being down in their series, and Boston talking like Cup champs of 2 years ago. *check*

Tonight, I hope whatever is left of Samuelssons memory - he'd do well to remember what those two guys on his line represent. This is one of your last opportunities, Sammy. And NO wristshots to the chest, okay?
I expect every player to be ready to fight through Anaheims cheap shots and Perrys big mouth, and look to the crest on their jersey as inspiration.

Nobody thought we would make the playoffs (laughable) ... and now we are 2 W's away from a very classic matchup versus Chicago. If we play the way we did in Game 4, we can wrap this up Friday. The Duckies have NO response to our hardwork and hustle - that much is obvious.

Go Wings!!!

#2264107 Post-TDT: Red Wings stand pat, no additions

Posted by motorcitykid on 27 February 2012 - 03:44 PM

No need to listen to the Holland interview as it will be an old speech pulled out and used again: "won't overpay and really, Quincey and Smith are our additions".

Pul-leeze! Every year we see this. Time with Lidstrom is running out, and this team is NOT built for 4 rounds. For Christ sakes, look at the injuries starting to accumulate while the on-ice results start going south. No one thinks a first was worth Gaustead but doing nothing???

#2199588 Chris Osgood announces retirement

Posted by motorcitykid on 19 July 2011 - 06:29 PM

What a career, I can't believe it really, no more #30. With that awesome stance, as the camera caught him skating around his crease with shoulders slanted one side almost slightly. Head down, looking intently. Going over the game in his head.

Osgood thank you for all the memories. I'm truly a little tearful this day is here. We love you. We will never forget what memories you have given us Red Wings fans. We know you ignored the off-ice nonsense, and bled Detroit red all your career. Thank you Ozzie!!

White played for, and contributed to the Sharks team last year who, lest you forget, beat us in the playoffs.

As far as Commodore goes, isn't that exactly what we need?

You act as if Holland threw huge money at either of these guys and has left himself no other options.

Modano as supposed to be that goal scorer last year and we all saw how that worked out. He got injuried and we had very little money to make moves with when the trade dead line came.

You act as if the season is over before it's even begun, and I'm sure your GM skills would be just stellar.

It's the fact Holland always sits and sits and sits .... then once the trade deadline passes, he says, yet again, "I like our team and there wasn't anybody out there we liked." With Holland it's the same company line every damn time he is asked about improving the club. Last year he said the same nonsense in the summer. He said we need a Top 6 scorer. And then the trade deadline came and went. Again.

This is Niks last season, and i'd like to see us back in the Finals and winning another Cup. Who can honestly say he is going to shock the NHL and make big swaps to get us back to where we belong. The man is complacent, whether he's waiting for our young guys to get here, or he is simply gun-shy.
Ian White and Commodore? Yeh I bet he beat out 6 or 7 other GM's lining up to sign those two, huh? They are DEPTH guys. Nothing more. Yet some already got White pencilled in as a Top 4 guy. :yowza:

Still waiting ...

Before LGW has another "Kenny suckz!" uproar please read the quote below. In fact, the OP might want to edit and add this into the OP.

“We like our team, but we’re ready to make another move or two—whether it’s a signing or a trade—to make our team better this summer,” Holland said.

You do realize this is what Holland says EVERY summer. And so far, Ian White and Mike Commodore are laughable additions. White couldn't find a spot on the 3rd or 4th worse team in the NHL. And aside from hitting, what else is Commodore going to bring? <_< Forgive the arrogance here, but we are the Detroit Red Wings, not the Maple Leafs or the Bluejackets.

Geez, last year we needed to add at least one more top 6 or 9 goal scorer to our forwards. This year the team is definitely weaker, and all we have is the same-old-same-old from Holland. The famous, "wait and see, I won't overpay, I won't rush even if it means waiting until the trade deadline. I have a plan ..." nonsense.

As many have started asking the past few weeks, what the hell is Lidstrom thinking right now, as Holland hasn't done anything at all to improve our club. Not good enough, Mr. Holland. Not good enough at all.

i have seen enough of white play with his time with the leafs. if people complain about rafalski's questionable defensive play and give away's, you ain't seen nothing yet..

^^ This.

Commodore. Now White. The best Holland could do? <_<

#2170779 WCSF Game 6 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 3

Posted by motorcitykid on 10 May 2011 - 12:04 PM

Quite interesting to hear everybody outside Hockeytown, especially the tv talking heads, now ooking for a seat on the Detroit bandwagon. Pssssh whatever!!! It's either disrespect us or ignore us all year, so I don't trust any of them. They're trying to jinx us and we sure the hell don't need them!! Even Hockey Night in Canada featured about 45 seconds of Datsyuk highlights the other night. A FULL 45 seconds!! Hahaha.

And remember boys, it's us against the world. Nobody wants us here.

"To whom much is given, much is expected!!!"

Go Wings!!!

#2169997 WCSF Game 5 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Sharks 3

Posted by motorcitykid on 09 May 2011 - 01:45 AM

The sign in the Wings dressing room says: "to whom much is given, much is expected."
Quit talking about the fans who were pissed after Game 3. This team showed NOTHING up to that point - lucky bounces and s***ty refereeing aside. There was NO passion. NO competing. And NO desperation, which was shocking considering the makeup of this team is likely going to be much different next season.
And this is HOCKEYTOWN. Just making the playoffs or winning a round is FAILURE. Nothing short of a Cup and the season will always be considered a failure. Personally, that's what makes this team/organization so special to me. While other fans shrug and say "oh well, we at least MADE the playoffs...." the Wings expectations are always, and rightfully so, much higher. Our awesome owner Mr Illitch is not a man to smile and say, "hey, great season guys, even if we lost in Round 1."

Moving forward, there's much work left to do. The Wings are not a team the NHL cares about or a team that means much to the NHL when they win. It doesn't look good to see such dominance in this type of business. The refs, dare I say it, have let them "play" the past 2 games and that's been the difference. I'm still surprised they caller ORDINARY JOE THORTON for his dive, when they've been letting them get away with that s*** ALL YEAR!!! The Sharks, the Nucks, the Preds ... THESE are who the NHL wants to advance. So I hope we build on this win, and do even more next game, as our special teams are killing us - and we are not gonna see such calls if/when we get to a game 7. The Wings need to get back to that us vs. the world mentality that has been lacking.

Just a bit better. Just a bit more hustle. Just a little quicker in those battles and we will soon get to the semis and 8 wins from OUR trophy!!!

#2159955 Question: Why do Wings fans hate the Canucks?

Posted by motorcitykid on 28 April 2011 - 12:19 PM

The Canucks were run by a piece of %^&#(*@ named Brian Burke - who I can't stand and who talks out his ass like his opinion on hockey is the only one that matters. And their current GM was/is a Burke student. Pul-leeeze!!! The hatred for Burke and his team carried over even after he left for Anaheim, plus some of those same players are still there. Also, players there - namely Kesler, Torres - walk around with such swagger, yet they are hockeys San Jose to the north. They've won nothing. And Luongo is a sieve, with an attitude [this coming from me - a big supporter a mere couple of years ago], yet he is still praised as the best in the game.

Lastly, which is not entirely the teams fault, the absolute hype this team has been getting for the last few years is funny. They've never won a thing yet they are always talked about as the best team in the NHL - or close to it. San Jose, Pittsburgh, Washington ... I cannot and WILL NEVER support teams that get the exposure these guys do for winning NOTHING!!

The Red Wings win Cups, make the playoffs every year, have 3 or 4 of the top 15 players in the world, one of the best coaches in all of hockey, but yet they are ignored time and again, called old and slow, even right after winning a Cup, like we heard in 2008.
