Bettman tired to stop this before. I have 1997 playoff games on VHS/DVD, and whenever a octopus hit the ice, Bud Lynch had to tell the fans if something is thrown on the ice, it's an automatic penalty to the home team.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I really enjoyed the NBC broadcast without Pierre McGuire. He's on the Philly-Sabres game right now. I really hope he does Eastern games this playoffs and stays far away from Detroit.
Great clip, Datsyuk's reaction to the penalty is classic!
If the NHL was consistent, we probably would have won the 2009 Stanley Cup. Malkin would have been suspended for Game 3, for starting a fight within the last 5 minutes of Game 2, and the Pens would have had a to many men penalty called against them in Game 6 when they had 6 skaters on the ice for 20 seconds.
I still think Pittsburgh's 2009 Cup is tainted, and probably always will. They got that Championship handed to them with a bow on it from the League. Plus I remember someone during the playoffs said the Pens in 75% of their games had the first Power Play.
Why is this even a debate by the media and NHL? Heatley knowingly elbowed a guy in the head (and I don't care if it's Ott), yes he should get a suspension! Start with 10 or more games for this stuff, and set up a "3 strikes you're out" plan. But typical NHL will just give him a game or two and it'll happen again, in a different city by a different player, in the next couple of days.
Call me crazy, but this stuff HAS to stop! I don't want to see anyone get a concussion, and I especially don't want to see our Red Wings players get concussion. We're lucky Stuart ONLY got a broken jaw. Also imagine if Crosby or Hall was Datsyuk or Zetterberg instead?
Bettman has zero chance at a TV deal if he allows head hunting to continue, and his 5 point plan is a complete joke! All he needs is one point, "Don't hit people in the head!!".
