Used to think Filppula was a waste of money for how much he is paid until recently, and it's about time he played to his potential as harsh as that sounds. But unfortunately if Holland is going to make a trade Filppula will have to be a part of it, he's really the only person of value and it's skyrocketing right now. Contrary to popular belief of Hudler Slappies the trade value of a slow, small one-dimensional player that's an UFA next year isn't that high. And they won't trade Zetterberg no matter how much it's suggested. Won't happen.

All for Iginla if Holland can get him at the right price. He can net 40-50 goals / play at an elite level for the Red Wings for two or three more years.  He may lose his physical edge but his shot and instinct to score won't diminish.  At this point San Jose has Detroit figured out in the playoffs (see the last two years if you don't believe me), argue all you want, it's still true.  Have a hunch San Jose wouldn't have an answer for a Datsyuk - Iginla connection, assuming they play each other in the playoffs. I can see Datysuk getting 70+ assists and Iginla getting 50+ goals if they played together all season. Iggy's shot has burned Howard a couple times so far this season, all on a s***ty Calgary team.

It would have to be Filppula + Smith + another high end prospect + 1st. I don't think Iginla's value is that high but that's what it'll probably take. Calgary may not even be interested in that anyways. Regardless, Iginla is the exact player everyone wants. Big, fast, physical, fighting, right-handed scoring power forward that isn't afraid to go in the middle of the ice.

I feel Iginla has always wanted to play in Detroit, especially given his statements about the DRW organization the past week. They are the favorite out of the West if they get him IMO

Why would Emmerton be next, and who's replacing him? Why not Miller or Eaves? Eaves has sat in the press box for four games, Miller for two, and Emmerton for two. Emmerton is four years younger than the others, and all of them are capable PKers. Emmerton is the only center of the three.

The Red Wings have plenty of players that can play center. I think Eaves has more value than Emmerton, Eaves is proven.  But Miller would be the more logical choice to let go. I'm not sure if anyone would be needed to waived but Tatar would be the next to come up. He should have been called up before Nyquist.  I wish I knew why they are waiting so long to call Tatar up.

Trade for Doan and Parise? And what are we giving up, Hudler/Kindl/1st to New Jersey and to Phoenix at the same time?

I've actually started thinking more on the lines of Rick Nash but I doubt if Columbus would ever trade within the division, or the Red Wings for that matter.  Seeing as Doan and Parise are going to be UFAs I think they can be had for a cheaper price than what it would normally be. Since New Jersey has made it clear they are moving on with Kovy and not Parise I'm thinking you aren't going to have to give up as much as you think because the Devils would be happy with something for Parise. Now that something is still going to be quite a bit because he's a borderline franchise player but I think you'd be surprised. I like Franzen + Tatar for Parise. I'm not entirely sure what Phoenix needs so I can't comment on who I'd send over there.  I imagine it wouldn't have to be a lot for an aging 35 year old who's body isn't going to hold up for too many more seasons the way he plays.

I like the Sergei Samsonov idea. I've liked the idea of Sergei Samsonov for years. But Ken Holland doesn't. Sergei Samsonov contacted the Wings about trying out, and the Wings said no thanks.

I don't see why they wouldn't but I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks. Guy looks like he is in great shape though. Sergei Samsonov comes into my work quite often and I've asked him every time if ANY team has called him yet. He's told me none of interest.  What would I do? Bye-bye Drew Miller or Hudler. Hello Sergei Samsonov.  He's far removed from his 70+ point back-to-back seasons but for Detroit's style of play, I think he has enough offensive flair left in the tank to help out a struggling Wings team in desperate need of goals.

Saying it's just two games and to not worry about it is no better than saying what the OP did.

Simple fact is the past two games they have played lethargic, undisciplined hockey. Taking seven penalties in one game is pathetic and worthy of a practice with no pucks. While I don't think it would affect the Wings but this type of play devolps bad habits. I don't know about the rest of you but the last thing I want going into Friday is a Red Wings team with bad habits.

It was cocky to say, especially when he failed to show up a couple games.  Furthermore I'm sure he could jack 10/10 in batting practice if he really wanted to. I'll be in the minority when I also say I don't want a new arena for the Red Wings, they do deserve one though. But the Joe reeks and oozes old school hockey and hockey in general.  From peeing in a tub down to the claustrophobic seats.  I was at game 6 (vs the sharks) last year and I can guranatee a new arena would not have been as loud as the Joe was that game.  By far the most outrageous, insane, fun, mind numbing, voice losing game I've been to.  Roof was shaking it was so loud.  I don't give a s*** who you are at the Joe, if you're around me you're getting a high five.  And that's exactly what I want, a close experience with other fans that share a love for a game only hockey fans can know.

I was born and raised in the Detroit area and have followed our teams all my life. I went away to serve our country for 22 years and returned to the area in 2007. Not much has changed in terms of the things that make Detroit unique. Sure, we now have the Palace, Ford Field and Comerica Park. All great venues. And we still have the Joe, which stinks but still feels like home.

I wonder why? Look at the pictures before Coleman Young. Notice anything?  But yea, things are gonna be different and better when white people are LITERALLY AFRAID to go downtown.

I always look back at my youth with fond memories of supporting our teams among the greatest fans in the world. My stint in the military provided opportunities to see every sport in many venues. I found myself telling anyone who would listen how loyal Detroit fans are and that they're the best in the world.

If that's the case, you at least should realize that if you were worth your weight in snot, you would be out there playing or coaching yourself.

The concept of being a fan is fairly simple. It starts with loving the sport. If you do, the experience should be great, win or lose. A true fan supports their team, its players and its coaches through thick and thin. Last time I checked, fans don't call plays, select players, fill out lineups nor participate. Your job is to cheer or boo. I guess some of us want to use sports to deflect personal failures. I listen to local sports radio from time to time, and it is amazing how much hatred is out there among people who call themselves fans.

So this person thinks losing is a great experience?  What kind of f***ed up idea is that?  Yea man, I went to the game and my team lost 10-0 but man was it a GREAT game.  Are you out of your mind?

The time has come for some of you to look in the mirror. Detroit once was an incredible place with the greatest fans in the world. It isn't anymore. Our communities used to thrive with people raising their children with pride and reaching out to their neighbors. You felt a sense of unity when you walked down the street. Victory was sweet, and defeat was painful, but the support was never in doubt.

Now we have become a place where many complain yet offer no solutions. We complain that our neighborhoods are falling apart yet do nothing to make it better. Having been all over this country, I'm beginning to believe that there are places much more deserving of these teams than we are. Some of our fans deserve to be fired.

The secret answer?  That's what the government wants.  We complain yet don't do anything because we don't know how to do anything without the government helping.  Just the way they want it, buh-bye middle class.  This person has been all around the country, I feel it'd be safe to assume they noticed how it isn't nearly as ugly and desperate as it is in Michigan.  It's a lot easier to not worry about everyday life when you aren't worried about making your next mortgage payment.

It's more Detroit has turned ugly, not the fans.  Up until I started going to Chi-Town on a semi-regular basis I was opppttiimmiisstic about Detroit. Yea, we'll be back. Things are gonna turn around in no time. I'm afraid not. It'll be a long, painfully slow process if they want to attain that great city status again.  Detroit is at least a hundred years away from being what Chicago or any great city is.

The Red Wings are gonna fall. It just depends on what your definition of fall is.  Mine is 6th place in the west and a decent shot to win it all in the playoffs.  By no means are they the perennial favorites they once were but they are still the Red Wings.  Now, when they move to the East it might be a different story.

-In the Red Wings puck possession system speed isn't as important. I am willing to bet Jagr is no slower or faster than Franzen
-Comparing Hudler's KHL stint to Jaromir Jagr's KHL stint is like comparing apples and oranges. Jagr was an all-star. Hudler is, well...yea
-Comparing the Modano experiment to a Jagr experiment is like comparing apples and oranges.  Modano got injured.  We don't know if Jagr will get injured.  End of story.
-He'll be cheap.  Or at least what Holland will offer will be cheap

Probably the least watchable SCF in a while for me, which is also bad for the NHL if you're trying to market it.  Maybe I'm just used to Red Wing hockey and am crazy spoiled in that regard.

All Boston has to do, which is really the only thing they are good at imo, is goon it up and they take the series.  If they shy away from just playing physical they'll bow out in five like I originally thought. BUT, they throw 500 checks a game they have a shot.

The fan base for each team is equally as biased and annoying so that's a wash for me.
