#2198703 Ranking NHL Broadcasters

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 15 July 2011 - 01:34 PM

What I like about Ken, and Mickey is that there's no doubting their allegiance - however they're certainly not the foaming at the mouth homers that you'll find in a good number of play-by-play broadcast booths (take Boston, or Chicago for example).

On top of that they'll sing the praises, and scorn the opponent, and Red Wings alike; to me that shows their hockey acumen, and humility.

They're simply awesome

This. All of this.

I have always liked Don Cherry, too, although for different reasons.

#2185086 Latest Rumor: NHL Team Expected to Announce Rebranding in 2012

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 14 June 2011 - 10:51 AM

Ok. So anyone that plays for the team gets branded. Now they will have to get re-branded. Will that be over the old brand? Where do they get branded....on the butt like a cow? There's nothing quite like the smell of freshly branded flesh......

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

from wiki:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory[citation needed], extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted".

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Next.

You're welcome, thread-nazi wannabe.

I negged a few people in this thread because they care too much about putting people down rather than having a fun little discussion.

But, I don't know. I'd probably rather he just retire than sign somewhere else. He has little to gain in going to tampa so it would feel like a betrayal.

But if he isn't here (either retirement or this) then next year will be very interesting on the blue line.

I negged ya for negging folks that recognize a troll for what he is. I always thought you were supposed to dog trolls a little then ignore them.

#2176952 (1) Vancouver Canucks vs. (2) San Jose Sharks

Now the Sharks are just getting embarrassed.

this makes me very happy.

I hope the Nucks sweep.

#2174590 Congratulations to the Sharks

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 12 May 2011 - 11:48 PM

The sharks were deserving winners but that doesn't mean I will ever wish them luck. A bunch of Diving, whining, sore losers and it starts at the top with their ****** bag captain. I honestly hope he never wins a cup in his career.

Having said that. I will congratulate Grypho, he has been great on these boards all series. Enjoy your win mate.

QFT. doesn't matter why or how, no need to find excuses or even reasons. Sharks won, Wings lost. Congratulations, Sharks, advancing. Your Captain is a disgrace. Congratulations, Wings, on a fine effort. Could have been over in 4 or 5. I hope our Captain is back next year. And Grypho, it was an honor to have someone of your character on our boards. I hope you'll hang out with us some.

#2172923 Vancouver's Green Guys

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 12 May 2011 - 09:02 AM

Pretty hilarious actually. Not sure if anyone can find it but when Mike Fisher got a penalty last game they held up a picture of Carrie Underwood with a Nucks jersey on. Had to laugh a little.

I thought that was hilarious!
Not to dog the op, but this ain't politics. We don't have to be correct. No harm in getting under the oppositions' (players and fans) skin. Not really worried about their feelings and hurting them. Hockey should never be warm and fuzzy, imho. Let the octopus fly and let the green men go at it, I say.

Big Joe s***bag is not human. He doesn't have a Mamma. He was s*** out on a rock, and hatched by the sun.

#2172906 Bring back the minus rating!

I'm pretty generous with the plus. Negs should be used sparingly. After all, who are we to disparage someone elses' opinion?

#2170868 Can The Wings Win This Series?

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 10 May 2011 - 02:26 PM

I could go into an entire rant about how faith has held science back for thousands of years, but it's not germane to this thread.

The long and short of it is that 1.8% can't be argued with, because it's a fact. Facts are true whether you want to believe them or not, that's why they're called "facts". The beauty of sports is that there is chance and there is momentum involved in them, but there is also damn near 100 years of history involved in hockey, and in all of that time, three teams have come back from being down 0-3 to win the series. That's not to say it can't happen, because it has (1.8% of the time).

Rational people choose to believe in probability and chance rather than choosing blind faith. Even with a dour outlook on the series, most are going to be watching tonight anyway, for that 1.8% chance that it will happen.

I believe science can be a useful tool when looking around the universe. Lots of wondrous and amazing things to see and learn. But faith takes that and adds the anticipation of the unknown, filled with excitement and hope. Did you ever twirl around in circles when you were a kid....until you fell down? Knowing you'd get dizzy and fall down again, did you spin as soon as you could stand up straight? Fun, right? That's what faith does for science...it puts it on a Frisbee and sails it into hope.
btw....my point, really, was I don't get why someone with a different opinion than yours is an idiot......

#2170203 Superstitions

Posted by HOCKEY MATTERS on 09 May 2011 - 12:47 PM

LOL wow some of you guys are crazy about your superstitions eh..

The closest thing to a superstition for me, was when I just bought my Howard t-shirt & wore it in game 4, but I completely forgot to change into it last game since I was wearing a super cute summer dress haha.. luckily for me we still pulled out a win. I had to miss some parts of the first 3 games. These last 2 I've watched the full 60 minutes. So as long as I'm watching the game.. were good to go ;)

Without photographic proof of said dress, there was no dress. lol.
