#2672050 Fixing this mess....

Posted by Richdg on 21 April 2016 - 09:02 AM

In this case, he didn't improve his team.  Both pieces were shipped out of Chicago.

The pieces don't matter, it was freeing up the money needed to resign his stars. So he shipped out a guy declining in production to do that. As we sit today we need at least 4 maybe 5 high end players and we don't ahve the money to do it. All of our money is tied up in old declinging vets that Holland will not move. Pick whatever names you want: Z, Kronwall, Ericsson, Howard, Green, etc....

How about not fielding a lineup where 1/3 of the players belong in the minors?

Wings just lost to a team that was 80% AHL'ers.

Broken stick on a breakaway and a post for Mantha, Larkin hit the post earlier, the bad bounce off DK for the fourth goal...seems like this has been all season long for us. Who do we need to sacrifice around here to appease the hockey gods?

how about Ken Holland?

I wonder if it burns Illitch when he sees Nill as GM of a top team in Dallas, or Yzerman rolling along nicely in Tampa just coming off an Eastern Conference title, and knowing he could have had either as his GM right now?

Players that MUST NOT be in a Wings uniform next season: Howard, Ericsson, Richards, Quincey, Helm, Nyquist, Smith at all cost. I honestly think Z (God Bless him) should retire.  Trade the overripe guys in GR or just keep them there....

When I say draft day fire sale, I mean it. Trade all this dead weight for draft picks.  Sign a HUGE scoring forward (Stamkos) and fill the rest with your kids from GR.

I like Abby, but no way he is worth the money he got...what a waste. Another contract that in 2 years will be an albatross to this team and untradeable.

Bring up Mantha, Bertuzzi, Russo, Hicketts, Renoef, Nosek to replace the fire sale players above.  Sign a nice back up goalie or let Coreau take it.

Throw millions of $$$$ at Larionov to try to convince him to come be the Asst/PP coach.

It's time of Ilitch to step in a take control of his team....again.

#2655637 Jakub Kindl traded to Panthers

Posted by kickazz on 27 February 2016 - 04:49 PM

Knowing Kenny, he'll turn that 6th round pick into a 2nd line Center!

psh that's nothing. He turned Ericsson who was a 9th round LAST player to be drafted in the entire day into a first line defenseman. :D

But seriously that trade was win for Detroit.

Retain only 15% of the salary is it?

edit- Just saw original post, 15% it is. Nice.

It. Has. Begun!

I think this may be the first trade Holland has made over the last several seasons that has pleased almost everyone.

It's refreshing to see a Red Wings D-man able to male the pass on the lead out and being a offensive thread from the blue line. The more I watch Green the more I'am aware how much we missed that type of player over the last years.

also, if we can get Ericsson off the top pair, we may just have a formidable D

I like how the nhl network keeps showing Cleary as a UFA, as though there's a race to sign him.

#2608664 Question for the Board regarding Babcock

Posted by gcom007 on 19 May 2015 - 09:29 PM

He doesn't deserve that kind of money.  But money is why, as I said in the other thread, Babcock should take this deal from Buffalo.  After another mediocre season in Detroit, his stock won't be any higher.

I'm slightly more optimistic about our chances personally, but with some of the ideas floating around about how much Buffalo is arguing, it'd be hard to blame him for turning it down. And as rough as Buffalo's been, they're a team that's going to be better before too long. I don't think it's the pipe dream some make it out to be.

#2592057 Brendan Smith

I think we should call up Marchenko and Oulette and have them play to show the other guys what to do. I think Kronwall-Marchenko and Zidlicky-Oulette would be great pairs but Kronwall probably won't play tomorrow. Another thing I'm wondering is how good is our development of defensemen at the NHL level. It really seems like we have great defensemen coming from the AHL but as soon as they come here their growth just stops.

Even Brett Lebda must have been shaking his head yesterday at Smith's play.

He has been a disappointment, but so have many of our defensemen.  Ericsson has regressed, Quincey is still Quincey, Dekeyser's can't score goals to save his life and Kindl is benched.  There are times when I wonder whether Kronwall is shooting at the net, or shooting at that other net...............you know, the one hanging above the boards and behind the goal.

We might have some promising prospects, but they haven't played that much.  Zidlicky has been good, but he's not the future.

Overall, this defensive corps is weak.  They don't score a lot of goals, they don't move the puck well out of the zone and they make a lot of foolish mistakes.  Smith is just part of the problem.

Yes, he was supposed to be our greatest prospect years ago, but those things don't always pan out.  Maybe that's where everyone's greatest frustration about him stems from.
