#2631375 10/16 GDT : Carolina Hurricanes at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

Posted by datterberg1340 on 16 October 2015 - 08:05 PM

It's refreshing to see a Red Wings D-man able to male the pass on the lead out and being a offensive thread from the blue line. The more I watch Green the more I'am aware how much we missed that type of player over the last years.

also, if we can get Ericsson off the top pair, we may just have a formidable D

I like how the nhl network keeps showing Cleary as a UFA, as though there's a race to sign him.

In my scenario DD will play with Nick.

#2608664 Question for the Board regarding Babcock

Posted by gcom007 on 19 May 2015 - 09:29 PM

He doesn't deserve that kind of money.  But money is why, as I said in the other thread, Babcock should take this deal from Buffalo.  After another mediocre season in Detroit, his stock won't be any higher.

I'm slightly more optimistic about our chances personally, but with some of the ideas floating around about how much Buffalo is arguing, it'd be hard to blame him for turning it down. And as rough as Buffalo's been, they're a team that's going to be better before too long. I don't think it's the pipe dream some make it out to be.

I think we should call up Marchenko and Oulette and have them play to show the other guys what to do. I think Kronwall-Marchenko and Zidlicky-Oulette would be great pairs but Kronwall probably won't play tomorrow. Another thing I'm wondering is how good is our development of defensemen at the NHL level. It really seems like we have great defensemen coming from the AHL but as soon as they come here their growth just stops.

Even Brett Lebda must have been shaking his head yesterday at Smith's play.

He has been a disappointment, but so have many of our defensemen.  Ericsson has regressed, Quincey is still Quincey, Dekeyser's can't score goals to save his life and Kindl is benched.  There are times when I wonder whether Kronwall is shooting at the net, or shooting at that other net...............you know, the one hanging above the boards and behind the goal.

We might have some promising prospects, but they haven't played that much.  Zidlicky has been good, but he's not the future.

Overall, this defensive corps is weak.  They don't score a lot of goals, they don't move the puck well out of the zone and they make a lot of foolish mistakes.  Smith is just part of the problem.

Yes, he was supposed to be our greatest prospect years ago, but those things don't always pan out.  Maybe that's where everyone's greatest frustration about him stems from.

#2590650 Axel Holmström is having a great playoff so far.

Posted by number9 on 08 April 2015 - 07:20 AM

Ya it's not as easy as back In the day but just of recent memory we dealt away jarnkrok backman janmark ... Let almquist go back without getting a decent shot even though I recall him scoring a few times I think?

And also dick axelsson, ryno, ritola and larsson ... Swedes haven't been too good to us of late ... Just nyquist and Andersson of late that's in the lineup

That being said i just read ehn won the award for best player in the junior super elite so let's hope he along with holmstrom make an impact

Granted only 2 Canadian boys have it made it for us recently too. Sheahan and Smith.

The Czechs/Slovaks have been good to us. Mrazek, Tatar, Jurco, Kindl, even Hudler

Axel Holmström now has 13 points in 9 games in the SHL playoffs and is on the way to breaking the old points record by a junior which is held by Daniel Sedin.

There's been some really nice goals so far! they can be seen here:

Pretty decent run so far, especially since he's spent much of the time on the fourth line.

#2589878 Losing Streak affecting Babcock's Decision?

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 06 April 2015 - 05:08 PM

I don't think anybody EVER said Babcock was a bad coach.  It's just a straw man argument that guys like you use to defend him whenever he's criticized.  Because if we don't think he's the best coach in hockey, then we must automatically think he's bad.  Of course.

Guys like me??  Kind of like you claiming Babcock is regularly referred to as a genius around here?

It's not a straw man.  Try checking a GDT virtually every time the team is losing.  I don't know if Babcock has lost the lockerroom but he's certainly lost a chunk of the fanbase.  When the team goes on a hot streak it's in spite of him.  When the team goes on a losing streak, it's his fault. He's certainly not perfect but with some of the things people blame Babcock for, the underlying explanation is he must be a bad coach.  Because no good, or even ok coach would do these things.

But I forgot, you only fixate on how bad Babcock is to bait me, right?   So I'm sure you must not have complained about him the couple months I was gone.

I'll just keep silent again and I'm sure your fixation on Babcock will stop. ;)

Sorry Kip but I said that he's the best and in my opinion it's the case. He's the winner and he has won on all possible levels. There will be 29 other teams interested in him this summer. He has done great job considering that our star players are aging and injured most of the time. Beside of Dats, Zetterberg and Kronwall... Who do we have? Nyquist, Tatar, She, Jurco, Pulks will need time to develop but all those players are similar... They will need to add some size and toughness and a true Defensive Defensemen... Not Errorson/Quincey type of player.
Babs has won on every level. Only guy that comes in my mind as replacement is Tippet. Blashill is a good AHL but that doesn't mean that we will win with him... Again, there is a Boucher who was highly regarded and he lost his job to a layer...

Guy Boucher was a great prospect/junior coach and what he has done in Tampa???

C'mon, Blashill was a lucky that Detroit's mentality is to bring their prospects slowly so he had a talent and skills on his team.

Babs is a best coach period. This team is built soft and small, Errorson and Quincy are our top 4 def which is bad.

For those Holland lovers:
NyQuist, Tatar and 1st for Bouwmester
NuQuist, Smith and 1st (Mantha) for Edler

And that list goes on. White, Colo... are the AHL players which were brought as top 4 Defs

#2589822 Hudler Has 72 Points

Posted by number9 on 06 April 2015 - 11:49 AM

Letting Hudler go was probably the biggest mistake of Holland's career. And that happened twice. Jiri gave us every opportunity to keep him.... shame on us.

2011 - 2nd round loss to San Jose
2012 - 1st round loss to Nashville
2013 - 2nd round loss to Chi
2014 - 1st round loss to Bos
Babs is a good coach but he is not anywhere near the best coach 'period'.  Sutter and Quennville might be the best coaches in the last 5 years.  Yes, I know there will be teams lining up for him but personally, I think Babs is overrated.  He is good but certainly not the best.  When was the last time he won a Cup?
Why throw $5m/yr to have him take you to round 1 or 2 ... plenty of coaches can do that for you.  Bylsma got fired for that.

Sutter, really?!
Quennville is coaching a young loaded team with Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Keith... Then you have Saad, Sharp, Hossa... and Bowman isn't afraid of making some trades. Imagine Dats, Zetterberg 6-7 years younger. Babs is coaching a small/weak group of players. Season is 82 games long and we need some beef and less fashion models.

If someone needs to be "replaced" than it should be Holland and not Babs.
