Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
Nhurdi replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Read an article on my phone in some news app so not sure where the link is for it but it mentioned a trade of Eberle from Edmonton for Mrazek as he is behind our goalies. The basic thinking was they have many skilled forwards, but need a goalie and Eberle is who they would get the most return for. Could be interesting. -

No way in hell I want Diving Devin Setoguchi anywhere near this team. I still remember him flopping all over the ice that one year in the playoffs. It's been said before that he even dives in shootouts! But some size couldn't hurt. I'm in Vancouver and they talk about Kassian all the time on Team 1040 and I'm not sure he could be had for cheap. At least if you believe the guys on the radio that is. There was talk at length of someone trying to sign him and paying the compensation.

I'm not sure what it is with people on these boards wanting to pick up Vancouver's scraps. But I would pass unless it cost us literally nothing.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?
Nhurdi replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
I agree, I was readying an interesting article awhile back that said something like Franchise players don't get picked outside the top four picks. The chances of finding one outside the top two picks are slim at best.on a good success rate. Everything after that is more luck based. Same article also mentioned how Detroit has been the best franchise of the last decade. Granted the article was a few years old. -

Why not ask Edmonton too. There are teams that have picked early for years and never got out of the basement and perhaps never will. On a different point, In the playoffs anything can happen. A injury or two can decimate a teams chances. One player getting hot can vastly improve them. Calgary went deep, Edmonton too, who would have though Carolina would win a cup for christ sake? -

I would just like to ask why you think Buff is Lazy, a coach killer or a questionable team mate? Or is that just your opinion? Statistically Buff is better than Edler this year, I haven't looked at years past. He is a right shot, physical and puts up points. Edler has a NTC to boot, Buff has one too but he can only select 5 teams he won't go to. -

I find it comical that I suggest big Buff and get he sucks at d, is fat and lazy but then it's suddenly lets get Edler who sucks at D, has worse stats and is prone to mental mistakes but hey at least he isn't fat. Edit - Oh and Buff is a righty to boot. -

I mentioned we would have to work on the +/- . But how much of that is due to the team he is on? And for a fat guy he is outscoring our D men, out hitting our D men, plays more ice time than any Detroit player... so ya. I would think the fitness level of our players would rub off on him but he seems to be doing okay. -

Dustin Byfuglien Age 28 Height: 6-5 Weight: 265lbs Shoots: R NHL Seasons: 8 GP - 55 G - 12 A - 28 Pts - 40 +/- -16 Hits - 130 On contract till 2015-16 for 5.2 Million. I'm not going to state what goes the other way as i don't want to speculate, but he is a player that I think could fit. Obviously we have to work on that +/-. He is under 30, shoots right, he is big, he has twice the hits of any Detroit dman. As demonstrated in the playoffs when Chicago won the cup the one year with him he can put up points and he absolutely dominated in front of the net in the playoffs that one year so he is versatile. http://www.mynhltraderumors.com/tag/dustin-byfuglien/ -
id toy with the idea of Byfuglien, put him back on forward and let him be net presence like he was back in the day with Chicago. All depends on the specifics. I think we need to add some size and perhaps grit. I doubt anything will happen though till the off season.

Edler was injured

I like what I just saw from the Zetter, franzen, nyquist line.

i'm just going to say it. It's highly unlikely anything will happen via trade that will impact this team enough by itself to put us over the top due to the salary cap. If the players we have don't start playing better we are not destined for the cup final and sadly we should realize no major change will happen till the off season when the cap hopefully goes up and we shed some contracts. It's that simple, but keep dreaming. Gives us something to do.
