#2531071 Red Wings Target Mike Green

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 10 July 2014 - 03:36 PM

I really enjoy watching Wings games but don't stay up enough to properly evaluate some of the young talent like some around here. We've needed some solid defensemen for 3 or 4 years now to be a true contender

and it just never seems to happen. I like the fact we have tons of junior talent and a glut of forwards but Kenny needs to decide who is trade bait and pull the trigger on a couple defensemen that can make a difference

if he is going to continue to fail in FA. I hear some of the same names year after year after year in our system and they just never seem to translate to functional players. Last year at the start of the season people

were telling me Nyquist needed more time in GR, in fact he just needed to play. I'm not sure Green is the guy but its clear our defense as is will hold this team back and we are going no where fast.

Holland trading for Defense this year will be just like last years Holland trading to get rid of the glut of forwards...it just never happens. Holland washed his hands of free

agency when he re-signed Quincey. It was his way of saying there we're set. Every year whether at the trade deadline or free agency we wait for a big move and it just never comes.

I hope no one is waiting this year, it won't happen until we get a new GM.

#2528718 2014 Offseason League Signings and Trades

Every other free agent analyzed on NHLN last night was tied to perhaps Detroit being a destination because our roster is weak and in need of upgrade.

I disliked Kenny more and more as the trade deadlines have come and gone through the years. Free agency and the caliber of talent he has been tied

to has been ridiculous, the NTC's associated with most were a joke. Today was just flat out embarrassing.  I was excited about the season until seeing

this display of inaction.

This season was a waste when we played with ToToo, Samuelsson, Bertuzi and Cleary prior to the season start and didn't address defense. . Holland has been incapable of making trades

or acquiring talent unless the talent was Michigan bred and wanting to play for the winged wheel. The team has been in decline the last few years with no rudder or vision for the long term.

I have no issue with weeding out some of the young talent we don't want or won't need in trade for solid proven players...Ryan, Vanek etc....but this move was desperation and is more of the same.

Holland lost me last year and I stopped watching once the debacle of the opening roster was produced. Sorry Kenny I still hate you as a GM.

#2463218 The Nyquist/Tatar Thread

Still can't believe a few weeks ago guys were telling me next year would be their year and to give them time. So clear these guys should have been starting from game 1.

#2436401 So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 12 September 2013 - 10:39 PM

This is really embarrassing, knew it would happen. The real joke is thinking all those years near the deadline Holland may make a move...youth movement blah, blah, blah. Holland

hid behind protecting the young guys and the prospects as his out for never pulling the trigger and now that its their time we pass on Bruner, give Sammy a NTC and sign guys who

need to be replaced putting the kids we need on the roster in jeopardy. Whatever Holland your spring golf league can start early again. Idiot...I'm done wondering what Kenny will do screw him.

#2433314 Who do we Unload, reload on before the season starts?

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 14 August 2013 - 07:47 PM

The Wings need to get stronger on D not weaker. Any scenario where Dekeyser is sent down to GR for any period of time is flat out stupid. I don't understand the love this board shows for a 5 foot 8 inch enforcer (Tootoo)

who couldn't crack the line-up in the play-offs or a gap filling Center (Emmerton) who is average at very best. If Holland continues to fail in the trade world to make this team better we need to cut bait with marginal talent

and support the poor contracts he handed out last year. I don't care who comes or goes from the back end, Nyquist, Tatar and Dekeyser need to be in the line-up if we are serious about winning.

#2432662 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 06 August 2013 - 07:30 PM

Agreed. Its a shame, because Holland is making GREAT moves this year. His 2012 misfires are a thorn right now, however. We need to negative trade: Sammy, Tootoo, Bert, 1st Rounder in 2014 for 7th Rounder in 2014. Basically, give up a late 1st rounder so another team will take our slop.

The thing that kills me is even if he figures out how to do it he'd probably be on the phone with Cleary instead of Brunner....aaaauuuugggghh!!!!

Think back to the last time that Holland packaged a top prospect in a trade.

Think back to the last time Holland made a trade.

#2427783 who's on their way out of Detroit

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 05 July 2013 - 09:04 PM

Nyquist  -  Helm  -  Tatar

How badly I want to see this third line night in and out. Absolute killer 3rd line. One top Defenseman added would be a very nice touch and with injuries probably something we need.

Samuelsson's absence would make everything a lot easier. Imagine still having $5m to work with.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the $2.3 number comes with accepting Alfies whole $5.5 right? Only $3.5 should be counted up front so technically shouldn't our number be closer

to $4.3 right now? I'm totally with you on Samuelsson!!

#2426620 Stephen Weiss on his way?

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 05 July 2013 - 11:36 AM

Wish we could give Brunner Sammy's money and just be done with him. So much dead money on a few unproductive players.

#2425601 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 03 July 2013 - 08:20 PM

If he doesn't sign by Friday he's gone. Other teams aren't overpaying they are placing a value on talent that we don't. When Brunner signs for $3.5Mill somewhere else its going to break my heart.

#2425541 How much is too much?

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 03 July 2013 - 04:40 PM

So you think it's a good idea to sign Clarkson at $6 million for 7-years and Vinny to a 5-year deal?

I think we need to consolidate some of the 16 forwards on the roster to obtain higher quality talent to help push us over the edge. I mean really 16 guys under contract (if Cleary and Brunner sign)?? Yes spend a little

money on one or two guys that are difference makers and you can pare down on some of the 16 reasonably priced guys.

#2425376 The Overreaction Thread

Posted by MileHighWingsGuy on 03 July 2013 - 11:40 AM

The idea of the thread was also to look at the bigger picture. Living in Toronto, I can understand the frustration from fans who haven't seen there team in the playoffs in 9 years, or who sign Mike Komisarek, Jeff Finger, and Mikhail Grabovski to long term big money contracts. Or trade Tukka Rask for Andrew Raycroft, or how about Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton for Phil Kessel. These are moves that make it legitimate for a fan base to rally for a new GM.

In Detroit, we have been to the playoffs 22 years in a row. Won Cups and Presidents Trophies in both the non cap and salary cap eras and adapted from being a very good high spending team, to a very good cap strickened team. This year, in a "transition year" after losing Lidstrom, Stuart, Hudler and not cashing in last summer - we weren't supposed to make the playoffs. What happened? We took the Cup Champs to the brink and ran out of gas after two seven game series. Oh, and our farm team won the Calder Cup.

Not bad for a rebuild, I'm sure the Leafs fans would take that season after 9 of missing the playoffs and stockpiling draft picks every year. Which is another thing, how on earth have we been to the playoffs every year... Usually finishing with home ice advantage, while trading most of our 1st round picks, and somehow manage to draft a Calder Cup champion in the process? Probably our terrible GM....

Imagine if our GM had leveraged some of the talent at the junior level to actually secure a player that would have pushed us over the edge in the Chicago series. If winning a Calder Cup is the goal Kenny succeeded. I could care less about it personally or about the successes we have at lower levels if it doesn't translate on the level that matters. We have too much talent and too many players that will never see the ice. I'd rather leverage some of that talent to secure something that would help us now.
