    Unofficial Sergei Fedorov Night!

I live in No. Virginia and go to games and when you get to the Verizon Center the "local salespeople" are usually milling about out in front of the joint. If you are taking the metro in (which drops you off practically under the arena) you may find a couple of them near the metro exit, but most of them are out front of the building. BTW, Stubhub shows 207 tickets still available starting at $65 a piece (of course those are oxygen take optional) hope this helps

    Where can I order this?

I've got the Redwings 'GOTHIC-D FACE OFF' Red Fitted Hat with the winged wheel on the back and love it. I wear it practically everywhere and have never seen anyone else with it (but I live in Virginia) I also wore it to the SCF, game one at JLA - of course, that's why the Wings won!

    Road Trip

Hey all; Since I became a wings fan I have wanted to see a game at JLA so I couldnt pass up the opportunity to see a Finals game at the Joe. I live in VA and am flying in just to see the game on Saturday. I have never been to Detroit and will only be in town for 14 hours. I had a couple of questions regarding the logistics of the situation and any help/advice that people could offer would be greatly appreciated. I have to pick up my tix on Broadway - how far is that from the arena and can I walk from there (is it safe?) Do they allow backpacks in the venue? If not, does anyone know if they have lockers at the airport? I am assuming that they allow cameras. Any idea how far the airport is from the areana and/or how much a taxi would cost? Also, is it easy to get a cab at JLA or should I call ahead to arrange one? How much can I expect to pay per beer?!??!?!? Also, if anyone has any advice on getting in and out of the city more easily, or just advice in general I would appreciate it! peace

Should Wings fans be rooting for the Aves?

I cannot bring myself to root for them, esp. since there is a "woman" in my office who is a huge Avs fan. If you have forgotten the Rivalry between the two teams, check out the SI Vault and do a search for the Red Wings vs Avs - the articles will take you right back to those times and you will start to hate the Avs agian (if you ever stopped) - it works for me!

Your thoughts on Ozzie's performance in game 5

I think that he played great - he made the stops that he was supposed to, but I think that the bigger issue is that the team played a more inspired game, its like they felt better having him back there as opposed to Dom, who, can be at times at one extreme or the other - really great or really bad. I think they played with more confidence knowing that Ozzie back there and had their backs. IMO it would be a mistake to go back to Dom - unless Ozzie really F-ed up. peace

    Switching Up the Lines

After 3 years on the board this is my 1st thread and I hope this isnt a stupid question - but it does come from someone who enjoys watching the game but has never played (and if I could start all over I would take up the game at a very early age - I grew up in Indy watching the IHL Racers [Gretzky's 1st pro team]), but what impact does switching up the lines have on the players? My only frame of reference is the sports that I play/played in that in vball I am used to having the same person set the ball to me on a consistent basis - I know where the ball is going and they know where the ball is going - same with fball - receivers and QBs put in lots of time learning routes and timing - in hockey when you switch up the lines wouldnt it cause confusion because you are putting players together who are dont normally play together. They have to learn a new person, i.e. what their habits, tendencies are, how fast or physical they are, when they may cheat on a play, pinch in, or change something on the fly. Is that something that is consistently worked on in the regular season? - changing lines and getting the players acquainted with the traites of the other players so in the event that lines need to be changed the transition is as smooth as possible? HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING, AS AN EXAMPLE ONLY - given the players size, speed, strengths, etc. switching Dats and Bert for each other would have an enormous impact on their lines/players because they are two completely different players (plus Bert is a new player on the team, which I think would have even more of an impact). Please be gentle - as I am just trying to learn! peace
