#2313265 Still no decision from Suter. Speculation abounds.

Stop the presses! No really, stop the presses. The NHL's free-agency frenzy has officially ground to a halt.
This year's top free agent, Zach Parise, announced Monday that he wasn't ready to make a decision on where he'll sign. Well you can say the same for the top defenseman available and, for some, the best player out there, Ryan Suter.
Like Parise, Suter has entertained offers from the biggest buyers in free agency since the clock hit noon ET on Sunday. And, like Parise, Suter isn't ready to make a decision. Unlike Parise, Suter is sitting at home in Wisconsin instead of at his agent's office near Toronto. Still, his agent spoke up on Monday for Suter, who is much more of a quiet type.[color=#333333 !important]

Those tweets come courtesy of Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Why Minnesota? Well because the Wild are one of the teams making a push for Suter and Parise. They have money to spend and a roster that needs some sprucing, so they're going big.
It appeared for a bit Sunday night that the bidding for Suter was over, and he was going to sign with Detroit. But that report appeard premature. Although many have believed for months that the Red Wingswere the favorite to sign Suter away from the Predators, it didn't happen or wasn't all that close to happening. If it were, he would have signed the deal by now.
Once again, like Parise, Suter has every right to take his time on a big career decision. Sure, it might be stopping all of the next-level players from making their decisions, but it's a pretty important call to make in one's life.
It led to Justin Bourne of the Backhand Shelf blog to bring up an interesting idea -- well, expand on an idea brought forth by Elliotte Friedman of the CBC. It's not often that its suggest the NHL emulate the NBA, but the Association might have it right with the way it handles free agency.

With the new CBA being negotiated this summer, something has to change. There's no reason guys shouldn't be allowed to hear everyone out in a manner more thorough than speed dating, and sit down with the people most important to them, and think.

I'm buying it. It makes a ton of sense for a negotiation-only period where players can hear the offers and then mull them over. It might take away from the excitement of Day 1 of free agency, but it might also help GMs save themselves from themselves.
In the NBA, teams can talk to players for a period of time before they can sign. It avoids situations like this and gives players time to consider their options without the pressure or silly criticism that they're taking too long.
Rarely does Day 3 of NHL free agency have the biggest moves, but if decisions from Suter and Parise come down Tuesday, that's what we'll be looking at.

You know Holland, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber you go and sign Tootoo....AND COMPLETELY REDEEM YOURSELF

I see what you did there...

#2312023 Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 01 July 2012 - 05:21 PM

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo no no no! Why???

Not a big fan of the guy. Unless Homer is for sure retiring and he's taking his spot then I guess its ALRIGHT, but if this is any indication of not getting a big name forward then I am one sad, angry, and depressed man. I just think Sammy is all over the place. Holland just lovesssssssss bringing players back that didn't really do anything spectacular the first go around. Long as we get Suter and hopefully Parise , or trade for Ryan or something it wont be as bad. I just cringe at the thought of him saying well we added our "missing pieces" cause this dips*** isn't worth anything to complete the puzzle!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :o

#2311989 Still no decision from Suter. Speculation abounds.

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 01 July 2012 - 05:14 PM

If Pens sign Parise, what are they gonna do when Malkin's contract is up. I for one think Parise is gonna sign here, providing Suter does, I think its gonna be a Kariya/Selanne Avs signing years ago kinda thing.

And if Parise goes to the Pens, then maybe he does wanna be in Crosby's  shadow. We'll just steal Malkin when his contract ends, lol

If thats the case hopefully Suter and Parise don't play like Kariya and Selanne did when they were with Colorado! :bag:

#2311813 Red Wings Sign G Jonas Gustavsson to 2-year deal, $1.5M/yr

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 01 July 2012 - 01:31 PM

Both of you need to stop your little bitching-fest. Frankly, its getting quite annoying. This isn't a battle of the cities thread, but a thread about the Monster signing in Detroit. Com'on people!

This isn't the 70's.  Every goalie seems to be 6'3 now.

Well I agree with you; that is the reason for his nickname.

#2311323 i hope we dont panic if suter and parise signs elsewhere

CALLING BLUEADAMS, I REPEAT CALLING BLUEADAMS! Some line combinations are in order!

Another Parise and Suter thread?! Good lord!

#2311267 Biron back in New York

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 29 June 2012 - 08:29 PM

Wish Detroit could of landed him for a backup. I've always like him, he's a solid backup! However I knew the Rangers would re-up him. His agent stated he loved working with Henrik and New York city.

#2311266 CRAZZZZYYY Roster Idea

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 29 June 2012 - 08:27 PM

Wow, when you put it that way... what a well thought out, in depth, eloquent thought... you've really shed a whole new light on it... :glare:

Thank you, thank you thank you, you are far to kind!

Just to put a smile on your face I will say this, JB is over payed and over rated I think. I think his spark of greatness is gone. As for Iginla he's awesome but older, and not worth giving up two first rounders to get him. I wouldn't mind him on our team if it only costed us middle tier talent (even lower end draft picks). You are smiling now right...! :D

#2310047 Shanahan snubbed from HoF induction

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 26 June 2012 - 12:34 PM

Plain and simple, short and sweet:

HOF: YES

JERSEY RETIRED: NO (Not in Detroit anyways)

Great player but I don't think he met the criteria to hang in the rafters with the elites. If you retired Shanahan's jersey just think of all the other wings that should "technically" then be retired as well...

#2309733 Garth Snow...

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 25 June 2012 - 12:51 PM

This isn't a rumor; it is infact true. Here is another link to verify it: http://www.cbssports...t-for-no-2-pick

What a hefty price to move up two spots in the draft. If I was an Islanders fan and Howson accepted this, I think I would want Snow to be beheaded. That is just absurd. I don't see Snow's logic in jumping two spots... Defensive heavy draft... There was tons of talent.

#2308918 2012 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 22 June 2012 - 07:18 PM

s***, I think Pitt got the better deal in that trade. I like Staal, but wow! I forgot that Pitt drafted Morrow last season....

...Hey Holland, if Shero can trade Staal, you can trade Franzen...come on....Bobby Ryan is out there and wants out of Anaheim...

YEP!!!!! I agree!!!!!
Bobby Ryan on trade talks: "At this point, I don't care. Move me"

#2308843 Top Swiss-leaguer Brunner to sign with Wings, Babcock has big plans

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 22 June 2012 - 04:24 PM

Ok...here is my $70M roster including Brunner (dunno what his salary will be, so I just put $1M to be safe) and my above  proposed week of ecstasy with acquiring Ryan (Schultz) along with scoring Suter/Parise....

I traded away Franzen, Mursak, Emmerton & Kindl...not all for Ryan, but I got rid of these guys none-the-less... Of course I am still adamant about siging DeKeyser and Welsh, So until it DOESN'T happen then I will continue to post it!  I now have put Montoya as Howard's back-up...

FORWARDS
Zach Parise ($8.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m)
Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Bobby Ryan ($5.100m)
Damien Brunner ($1.000m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)
Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.250m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m)
Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Jeremy Welsh ($1.100m) /

DEFENSEMEN
Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($8.000m)
Ian White ($2.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)
Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Justin Schultz ($1.100m)
Danny DeKeyser ($0.825m) /

GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($2.250m)
Al Montoya ($1.000m)
------

SALARY CAP: $70,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,070,833; BONUSES: $37,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,229,167

That roster is HOTTTT! However with that being said, I think that is just the dream roster. I can totally see Parise and Suter, but I don't see Holland trading for Ryan. He just doesn't seem to pull off trades that have a huge impact like that. I mentioned in another topic I want him to pull a blockbuster though! Like when we acquired Hasek. He needs to do something big, show the NHL that the Wings don't f*ck around! :D

#2308790 Flyers Trade Bobrovsky to Columbus

Posted by Hockey13Playa on 22 June 2012 - 01:34 PM

the flyers have so much young talent and valuable assets such as picks it drives me nuts. So jealous. Expect them to move up in the draft using JVR or their first, 2nd, cbj 2nd to get a top 10 pick. fml. another couturier to add to the stable. I wish we had the assets to move up that easily.

With the Flyers as my second favorite team after Detroit that is one thing I love about them. They got their core talent  but have all those young guys just waiting to emerge; with Read and Couturier being the top two. I am right there with you though; I wish the Wings had some assets or some balls to move into the top ten and grab some of that high end talent!
