#2016683 Sergei Federov

I think the biggest things were the lockout just really fooked with his skills also being traded away from the Ducks must of messed with him mentally as well. He went from being "the man" to being a mentor/another piece of the puzzle. Not what he wanted. Then his body started to give up on him with all those random injuries he would get. Bad groin, ankle, back and the killer a concussion in his 2nd to last year.

Could he of been better maybe it's easier to play with better teammates around you. My question is would he of meshed better with Babs with the Wings instead of Anaheim? Another one is how the Red Wings roster would of looked with 2 large contracts after the lockout?

He was 34 when he left Detroit so he was heading for a decline no matter what, but I think he would've had a much more productive end to his career if he had stayed. Mike Babcock said it pretty well, being Fedorov's coach in Anaheim in 2004:

Technically 33. I know it does not matter but just getting the facts straight sorry.

Hank with a 50 goal and Pav with a 100 point season would be awesome. They deserve it. Maybe it will happen if they play together next year !

Also if he does not play a couple of half ass games like last year. Maybe it was his back but whatever it was you could tell he was not giving his all.

#2015177 Lilja, Modano, and Maltby news

Posted by dragonballgtz on 15 July 2010 - 08:35 AM

I want the Wings to give Maltby the one-year contract. Hear me out on this. If (and it's a BIG if) he actually out-plays the other guys, then he's the one that belongs on the team.

If he doesn't, and if he's willing to go to GR (yup- another big if) we can bring him up in the post season as a black ace. He may not play a game, and he wouldn't get his name on the Cup (thinking positive here!) unless they stuck him in for a game. BUT (and I do have a big butt- oh, wait...) if we get injuries during the playoffs, Kirk Maltby is one man I want to be able to plug into our lineup. He knows the system, he plays his best hockey during the playoffs, and he will be more rested having played the lesser schedule.

As long as he's willing to earn his spot- and everyone understands that he must EARN it, the only downside I can see to signing him is that he might be claimed off of waivers. Granted, it is mostly a downside to him and his family, and the die-hard Malts fans out there, but it would be a loss of a good black ace.

Can't wait to see my rep tomorrow. :D

It is sad to see the players from the mid 90s team going out like they are. Maltby took one for the team last year by having surgery so I think Holland would at least give him a two way contract for it. I really hope if we do sign Maltby he plays with passion because I am pretty darn sure that this is the last hoora for Draper, Maltby, Ozzie, and maybe Lidstrom. Depending how hard the season is on Holmstrom's body him as well. :crybaby:

#2014640 RUMOR: Wings Offer 1-year Contract to Maltby

Posted by dragonballgtz on 13 July 2010 - 07:27 PM

The last time Detroit won the Cup without Maltby on the roster is 1955.

Thus, he's a must for our championship hopes.

#2014469 Bettman makes how much?

Phoenix is a brand new market, and the team has been AWFUL all 14 years.

I wouldn't say all 14 years. First 4 seasons they made the playoffs but got knocked out in the 1st round by Red Wings, Avs, Blues, and Ducks. Besides the Ducks those were the top teams in the west during those days. Phoenix was never elite but decent...so getting off to a start like that they should of gotten more attention but didn't.

#2014277 Osgood may retire following this season

Posted by dragonballgtz on 12 July 2010 - 09:49 PM

He will be a Hall of Famer, but I don't see him getting in 1st try unless its a weak class. I think the voters will keep in mind the fact his numbers were more a product of the teams he played on and not overwhelming stand out play on his part.

I will agree in a way with that. I still think Ozzie did his part. Hell he might of had 3 SC for being a starter if it wasnt for him getting injured in 98-99 playoffs.

#2012764 Brett Lebda signs with Toronto

Posted by dragonballgtz on 08 July 2010 - 04:05 PM

Did you all listen to the radio interview? At the start he makes it clear the Wings really didn't push for his services, they asked but other then that he knew they did not want him. Also the way he sounds in the interview is a respectable tone. George Malik just twisted the interesting words and used them against Lebda. I am not a fan of Lebda in any way (I called Toronto suckers for paying him that much) but lets bash him for telling the truth. There was no room for him and he wanted to play more. He got way more then Detroit would ever give him so I cannot blame him for going to Toronto.

#2012173 Getflaf for Zetter

Posted by dragonballgtz on 07 July 2010 - 05:47 PM

If Getzlaf played the way he did against us in the playoffs two years ago all the time then yes. Wasn't he hurt or had the flu, what ever it was dude was a beast. None of the Wings could move him.

#2011865 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Posted by dragonballgtz on 07 July 2010 - 10:39 AM

Eaves is yet to sign his offer, which was given to him long before Modano was anywhere near a reality, he has his offer, if he wanted to be here he would be. This is not a case of Holland leaving Eaves out in the wind, Eaves knows what the Wings offer is and if he had signed it, the Wings would have less cap space to throw at Modano.

Eaves was a Wing for less than a year, what makes you think he will stay here for years, or even be able to crack the roster in years to come?

That was so they could hold onto his rights. I will bet they just added the 10% to his contract but they knew he would not sign it.

The 1.5 million dollar man is gonna be sitting in the press box if Modano signs. What a waste of cap space

I don't know why I got rated down for this remark but its the truth. Splitting time or not its a waste.

so 3 other teams interested in modano eh? hopefully they offer more to him than the wings and he chooses to go elsewhere

#2011034 Holland thinks he is close to signing Eaves, Miller, and Meech

Posted by dragonballgtz on 06 July 2010 - 09:33 AM

They can afford to do that because Ritola is, no matter how you look at it, redundant to this team, they got many promising prospects ready in 2 years or so

I would rather have a promising prospect then a 40 year old on the brink of retiring.
