#2213813 How long before headshots are embellished by garbage players?

Posted by dragonballgtz on 09 October 2011 - 06:57 PM

Players started to embellish last year. All that does is make the refs jobs even harder for them to do.

#2213637 Messing with the lines already?

Posted by dragonballgtz on 08 October 2011 - 10:50 PM

I understand why he did it, but he did the same thing throughout the entire season last season and none of the players looked like they could trust the other players.  I also think one bad period is absolutely no reason to break up lines.  Lines are going to have bad nights, and to me breaking up a line for having a bad night shows no trust in your lines.

Actually I do, the above reason is why it's irritating to me.

Why leave a line together if they are having a bad night? That makes no sense to me to have lines that are not clicking stay together for the night. Mix them up and get something going.

Bowman use to do this all the time as well as who ever was playing the best on game day got more ice time. If players play the system there should be no issues with line juggling.

#2211513 Fabian Brunnstrom

Posted by dragonballgtz on 02 October 2011 - 01:12 AM

Bert basically carried the team in December - January. I don't know which games you were watching.

The ones in which Jimmy carried the team.

Brunnstrom got smoked a few times tonight, but I thought he was still skating hard and trying to make some chances. Really the game was just so thoroughly dominated by Helm that it was hard to notice anyone else.

Bruno looked pretty gassed out there in the 3rd.

#2211142 9/30 Exhibition GDT: Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings

Posted by dragonballgtz on 30 September 2011 - 10:29 PM

Highlights of the game are on the Wings website.

1st goal Not much Howard can do with a screen in front of him and the scoring player on his off wing below the face off circle
2nd goal Deflected off a Wings player. Looked like he didn't have good position anyway.
3rd goal Kronwall f***ed up bad with a turnover behind the net. Jimmy should of had it as it trickled in on him, he just didn't squeeze hard enough.
4th goal Another turnover behind the net but this time on Lidstrom. Not much Jimmy can do on that.

Besides that 3rd goal you can't really blame Howard.

Pretty slick move on Nyquist part for his goal. He completely deked the guy defending him in the corner, Datsyukian like.

.54 ppg for a player making $1.5m (less than that in '09-'10) is great, and Bertuzzi was vital to the Wings making the playoffs in '09-'10. He is also hugely durable. I don't know what you expect from the team's lesser-paid players, but your expectations seem to be absurd.

No, he made $1.5 in 09-10 and salary cap wise is currently at $1.9 for last year and this year.

Bert had to step up in 09-10 with all the injuries but he didn't take over. Even during the time he had at the top he didn't produce at a special rate. When I think of the inconsistent play of the Wings these past two years Bert stands out as one of the players that is inconsistent. But he has had to be bumped up in depth the past two years because of the injuries. Berts role on this team should be a 3rd liner but the team has not been healthy these past two seasons to keep him in that role.

#2210924 Brendan Smith suspended for 5 games

This board is freakin amazing. One day Shanny is the hero laying down the law then the next he is a villain and hurting the game.

It's the freaking helmet. Who gives a crap?

#2209869 Filppula is "too nice".

Posted by dragonballgtz on 26 September 2011 - 08:45 PM

It's not just Flip, most of the team plays too team-conscious. I love a team-first mentality, but it seems like very few the past two seasons have been willing to just take over a game like they used to.  Teamwork is great, but SOMEONE has to be relied on consistently.

I agree.

The past two seasons, especially last year, I questioned the teamwork of this club. It seemed like no one trusted anyone out there and it showed up in our GAA. You had some players trying to do to much and others not doing enough. Multiple times during intermission interviews did we hear about trust not being there, people trying to do other peoples job on the ice. A couple of games after we would see the Wings play as good as they can but after that back to the normal inconsistent untrusting teamwork.

On topic:
What is a "breakout year" for Fil in terms of points?
60+ points

How many points will Filppula score in 11-12?
45-50 points is my guess. The only thing stopping Flip from being a legit 2nd line scoring center is consistency.

#2207384 TSN 30 Teams in 30 Days Red Wings Preview

Posted by dragonballgtz on 13 September 2011 - 01:01 PM

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=375579

Basically talks about the standard Red Wings type stuff: Going to be a contender for best team in the west, should win the division, wonders about how long Lidstrom will stick around and if we have an impact player in development to replace our current stars, etc.

I do agree with the point made in the article that the next gen top end talent should already be in the lineup showing signs of things to come. I hope once Pavel hits 35 we have someone ready to take charge and be a bigger piece of the teams future in place.

#2204668 Should Homer Still Be On the Top Line?

Honestly IMO Homer should have never gotten that 2nd year on his contract. Last year should've been his last.

#2202984 Kovalev complains in Russian media

Posted by dragonballgtz on 09 August 2011 - 09:42 AM

I'd be real careful how you throw that accusation around, especially here.  I think there are a few people who would take great exception to those words.

I don't need to be careful with anything I stated. Stereotypes exist for a reason and there is damn good evidence why Russian players have gotten that reputation. Datsyuk is not a stereotypical Russian player but Kovalev is. Their national team speaks volumes on this subject alone.

Kovalev is pretty much a stereotypical Russian hockey player, tons of talent zero heart.

#2200924 Kris Draper announces retirement

Posted by dragonballgtz on 25 July 2011 - 02:30 PM

Hell of a career by Kris Draper. It'll be sad to see him go. Only one guy left from the 90's era now...sad off-season in many ways, but I'm excited for the future of this team. I'm also glad that we keep guys like Draper, Osgood, Maltby, etc. in the organization.

Congratulations on receiving the first negative I have ever bothered to give out.

Sad to say Holmstrom is still paying  <_<

#2200500 Draper or Hudler?

Posted by dragonballgtz on 22 July 2011 - 09:30 PM

Hudler was the team's third or fourth best forward in the Phoenix series. You may or may not think he was hustling... but he was definitely a big part in the Wings' first round win. He wasn't productive early in the San Jose series, and was vilified for it, but he certainly was still working out there. Maybe he wasn't working as hard as Draper. I wasn't measuring with my magic wand. But the fact is this. The ONLY value Draper has to this team is his ability on faceoffs. Ask yourself: Do you want a 40 year-old faceoff specialist (who will probably spend more time in the press box than on the ice) instead of a 27 year-old top-six winger with impressive playmaking skills and offensive awareness? If you answered yes to that question, you are not concerned with whether the team wins or loses.

He wasn't productive in the SJ series at all. I do care if the Wings win or lose. That is why I would rather have someone with heart, determination, leadership than a very very very streaky "top-six" winger. In their respective roles, Draper did better job at his. Hudler's only value to the Wings right now is that other teams might accept him via a trade, that's about it.

Really?  Really?  I seem to remember a certain former Hab, now Blue Jacket, that damn near everyone on LGW wanted Kenny to sign who went on NHL Live & said that Detroit's unwilling to pay people market value & that's why he signed for big money in C'bus.  So I guess you'll want to change that fact to "every player minus one".
