If we re-sign Abdelkader that gives us 16 forwards under contract. If we sign Semin ( what do we have to lose ) that gives us 17 forwards under contract..... last time I checked we only dress 12. and we have o wait... almost 17 million dollars in cap space. I firmly believe Parise and Suter both got overpaid today and I'm glad Kenny was wiser than that. Kenny has put a team on the ice that has been the most consistent high performing team in professional sports history over the last 20 years. I think he's knows what's up. I feel our forward situation at this moment has actually improved from last year.
We can trade some of our forwards for a D man, sign Semin and still have tons of cap space. We don't need that many forwards and I can guarantee you we won't start the season with that many.
There's other variables too ( in my opinion )
- Fil just keeps getting better and getting more confident. He's arrived as one of the better two way players in the league and he's still young. and Nick feels he's a leader.
- Brendan Smith's numbers through his very few games last year were spectacular... if you do the math through 82 games we woulda been the 2nd highest plus minus behind White on Defense
- Ericsson can have more ice time and run with that ball.
- for the price, maybe Brunner will be a surprise... but regardless we haven't lost anything. it's not high risk.
- I'm stoked to watch Nyquist develop.
We will be able to trade for a D-man, watch some of our guys take larger roles and be a tougher, bigger, stronger team.
We got this.
How's that for a first post after years of just reading? For the record, I'm a shareholder of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL... Brian Burke took a stud in Morgan Rielly. getting him at 5th was beyond a steal.

No kidding. Nick could have played until he was 50 if he wanted and he would have been an average NHL defenseman. He just didn't want to play average hockey though, and you have to commend him for that. The tank is definitely not empty Nick, it just started to move down a tiny notch from "god" closer to "mortal."

If you play the Wings and come up the boards towards center ice with you r head down and Kronner is on the ice you get exactly what you deserve.

The officials completely call the playoffs with different glasses...sometimes to the point that it seems like its a different game. In the later rounds, Highsticking, slashing, boarding, roughing goes without a whistle about 90 percent of the time.
If a smaller, puck possession team is successful in the regular season, they have to play a different game to win in the playoffs which obviously plays into the opponents hand...especially if the team they are playing is a big physical team.
Game 7- Boston and TB...and not a single pentalty called?? Bulls***! BTW, who does that favor?? The physical and strong ORIGINAL SIX team Boston who goes on to win the game and series.
Vancouver, a team I think is quite akin to the Wings on paper is literally hammmered off the puck, many times with force by a much bigger team and all that boarding, slashing and highsticking goes uncalled....it really does give Boston the advantage. I dont think they necessarily give teams more calls or less calls but I do know they call less stuff that if clearly a penalty. This does not favor the Wings in any way- it favors the sharks. SJ can seriously try to hurt the Wings and all of that crap isnt called. All the boarding and headhunting forces detroit to play a different game and allows SJ to be as "bullying" as they want to be. When detroit won the cup in 08, who did we play? Other puck possession teams including Pittsburg. Don't get me wrong, I think physical hockey but its not the same hockey as the regular season because its called to favor bigger, stronger and faster teams. It affects the outcome...bigtime.

#2139759 Blues fan here, can I offer some perspective?

First off, that was obviously a great game for us Blues fans to watch. To score 10 goals against any NHL team is quite a feat, but to do it to Detroit, in Detroit nonetheless, was remarkable. I must say though, that I am rather surprised at some of the comments in the GDT thread. I never thought I would see Red Wings fans question the leadership qualities of Lidstrom, or question the toughness of Franzen. There seemed to be a ton of negativity for just 1 game. For a minute there, I thought I was reading a Blues GDT.
I can understand the irrational posts after such a blowout, but you guys get a high seed in the playoffs, while we go home again. We'll trade you if you want? We have a concussed great young player that has shown no inclination that he'll be cleared to play, a very erratic goaltending tandem, players missing practices, a drunken golf cart injury that was the beginning of the end for a #1 overall, no playoffs 5 out of 6 years, and last but certainly not least, a dirt cheap payroll from an ownership that desperately wants out.
This thread was only created so that you Red Wings fans can appreciate what you have. Talk to you later and good luck in the playoffs.
#2116442 Draper the goal scorer

Draper should retire. He's played better this season than I thought, but there's younger and bigger guys we need on our 4th line. Draper is not going to be around for much longer anyway.
He's been a staple of this organization longer than anyone but Lidstrom, however, it's time to move on.

#1917292 Hawks talk about possible 1-8 match

They have Stanley Cup Champion Tomas Kopecky. They should fear us. The Wings have a team full of Cup winners. The Hawks have yet to prove themselves giant slayers.
I saw it on their website at the beginning of the season, in big letters: The Chicago Blackhawks welcome Marion Hossa and Stanley Cup Champion Tomas Kopecky.
He hasn't had his annual season-ending injury yet. That's how he wins cups. We must hope he stays healthy or we are screwed.
