#2429972 Henrik and Pavel

should (will) Red Wings retire their numbers? From my opinion it is definite yes as they defined a milestone for the team we are rooting for. From the other side we have Fedorov who contributed as much as Yzerman (13 seasons of pure magic) but left with some bad feelings... What do you think?

#2428327 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by RusDRW on 07 July 2013 - 01:48 AM

Everyone here seems so upset of not signing Brunner.... I would even like to question what is the reason? Just because he is 27 y.o.? Have you seen the regular season and play-offs? He is a definition of a floater, never goes to the boards implying that he does not bettle for the puck his defensive coverage is non-existant. Hell, he makes Johan Franzen a guru of defense. Our game is based on hardwork first and that is exactly what Babcock asks from any player. Even skill comes second. Brunner was consistently getting point playing with Zetterberg but anyone can do it playing with world-calss center (see Abdelkader). One can tolerate such style from someone like Brett Hull or Luke Robitaille but not from a rookie who wants to establish himself in this league.

Want to see a comparision? Nyquist vs. Brunner or Tatar vs. Brunner. Those two players are what exactly we need, Brunner? Not so much...

I don't like Cleary much at this point of his career but I understand why we try to sign him first. He is a warrior on the ice and sometimes that additional effort pays off big time.

#2427278 The Overreaction Thread

Yeah plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but I just realized we're past the stage for normal buyouts regardless. Not just Compliance. So trades it is...

it seems normal buyout are still feasible.

Watch more of Pavel Datsuyk highlights and you'll get how the hockey must be played :)

#2328672 The best players YOU've ever seen...

Makarov-Larionov-Krutov

#2327104 Alright. How good are we going to be this season?

Posted by RusDRW on 28 August 2012 - 11:50 AM

my prediction: Datsyuk tops 60 assits for Dynamo, Zetter scores 40+ for Timra while Filppula shows flashes of brilliance for Jokerit.

#2323027 Bottom Six

Posted by RusDRW on 30 July 2012 - 01:41 PM

Id rather see:

Brunner-Datsyuk-Filppula
Helm-Zetterberg-Franzen
Emmerton-Nyquist-Samuelsson
Cleary-Abdelkader-Tootoo

Bertuzzi/Miller/Eaves

Helm will never be a second liner. He might be the best 3rd liner but it does not mean he could fill 2nd line role.

#2318600 Holland Content with Current Roster

Posted by RusDRW on 12 July 2012 - 11:31 AM

You cannot say that anymore.... LA was an 8 seed last season and no one thought they'd make it anywhere... NJ was, what? a 6 seed? That was your Final this past season.... low seeded teams that no one would have ever predicted being there. We are a contender, plain and simple.

Well, I won some money predicting LA as the winner this season in one local Finnish betting agency. At least for me it was not a big surprise. Just a quick look at their roster shows that they can go very far this season as well. Same quick look at our roster shows 1st round exist at best.

Well, it is tough to face the fact that we are not a contender.... I took it for granted for 19 years that I followed the Red Wings. Any advices?

#2317611 How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

Posted by RusDRW on 10 July 2012 - 07:25 AM

The power play was awful last year and so was the offense. A new coach helps that.

It was awful every year since 2008 (including 2009 SC). Makes me think it is more about players not wanting to work hard rather than 3 coaches who tried to run it.

#2313522 Opinions if Wings have to settle for 'Plan B': Semin and Carle

Posted by RusDRW on 03 July 2012 - 11:16 AM

why are people so high on Carle? Just two seasons ago Tampa and Philly played a ping-pong game with Carle and suddenly he is going to get 5M. I watched Philly multiple times this season and he did not impress that much.... Well, to be honest Suter did not impress me as well last season. Well, I can understand that Suter is always in the shadow of Weber but still.

PS Semin would be good addition for not more than 5.5-6M per season for say 4-5 years.

PPS Getting rod of Emmerton is a must for this offseason to be successful. Get a legitimate 4th line center.

#2312154 Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Posted by RusDRW on 01 July 2012 - 05:50 PM

Can we also trade for Ott? Abdelkader-Ott-Tootoo would be everyone's favorite 4th line!

#2301003 Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.

Posted by RusDRW on 13 May 2012 - 01:24 PM

they are taking it too far in my opinion. Why not to bring Jarnkrock, Tatar, Nyquist??? I was laughing at people claiming we are too old and slow in the past, but now we are indeed too slow to actually compete with teams like Nashville, Phoenix, etc.

#2298253 Is Rinne Getting Exposed?

Posted by RusDRW on 30 April 2012 - 11:57 AM

Same thing happened in 2010 when the Sharks beat the Wings and then bowed out in the Conference Finals in 4 straight games against the Hawks.

didn't they lose last year to Vancouver in 4 games as well after beating us?

We can call it "detroit syndrome" :)

#2298225 Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?

Posted by RusDRW on 30 April 2012 - 10:36 AM

No.

and that is sad.
