Let me repeat: tootoo, samuelsson, gustavson, bertuzzi, quincey, and more than likely holmstrom soon. 10 mil + down the can. If anyone truly believes that these 5 or 6 guys would have been better than Suter and 4 or 5 other prospects/rookies, they're high. Holland should have gone for broke on suter and parise. Everything after that is moot.
Holland should've gave both Parise and Suter 13-year contracts worth over $100 million each? No, thanks. There comes a point when you have to take a step back and think about what you're doing. Neither Suter or Parise will live up to those contracts. They were the beneficiaries of a weak free agent pool. Both those contracts will be biting Minnesota in the ass in about 3 years, if not earlier.
This coming from a fan who is extremely critical of Ken.
The other thing to realize here is that this team has a whole lot more to worry about than a top six winger. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are the only superstars left on this team and both are leaving the window for their prime years.
That's my biggest problem with this and the previous off-seasons BY FAR: D and Z are special, special players who have gotten no help and have put on some hard miles of the last few seasons because Holland has failed to provide them with dangerous wingers, or even decent work horses. Their prime has come and gone during a period of stagnation, and that stagnation continues...
I'm not sure how I'd word the rule, but I think something needs to be done with the way Philadelphia is using LTIR. When someone like Pronger announces that he'll never play again, he should be retired, not put on LTIR so they can use his cap space on someone else.
I think its against the spirit of the rule, and also drives insurance costs up league wide since they are paying the lions share of his salary not the Flyers.
Forgot about 1 thing. The player/owner percentage should be 50% each. The owner still has to pay the rest of the staff as well, and pay to run the rink and all the bills included in that. The players just have to pay their agents. And without the owners, these players don't get paid millions to PLAY HOCKEY FOR A LIVING!
In saying what you just said, wouldn't you think the owners should get more than a 50/50 share? What financial risk does the player have? Guaranteed contracts, have zero financial risk for the players. If Franzen turns into Cheechoo, he still gets paid a large amount of his contract. If Illitch plays like Cheechoo, he just lost Millions of dollars. The risk/reward is much greater for the owners.
Also, I don't really like the long term contracts, though I feel they should "allow" 1 or 2 per team to be dedicated to keeping "franchise" players of whom the team has drafted and developed. The rest, I would like to see a 5-6 year maximum on. As much fun as it may be to watch a GM paint himself into a corner with $100 million lifetime contracts to lure the top free agents, it really just leads to another lockout coming in the future, and doesn't promote a healthy business model.
The main priority of the CBA, is to keep the business of hockey at a sustainable level. Let's hope both sides can remember that.
Cybulski & Co@Cybulskishow Here is our interview with Shea Weber's agent Jarrett Bousquet - http://bit.ly/MocI6a
Did you not listen to Weber's agent and what he said? "everything changed July 4th" meaing when Suter left Weber knew it was time to move on and he said he weasn't going to go through another "rebuilding" phase. Translastion he wanted out.
As for the Capgeek link the number don't lie, granted it's all a numbers game, but at the end of the day Nashville will have a very hard time matching or trying to match the offer sheet. Your team isn't turning a profite on it's investment aka your franchise is losing money every year. Remember Jim Balsillie want to buy the Preds and move them to Hamilton, OT? If Weber signs with the Flyers all's you have is Rinne with a 7yr/$49M contract. You guys have lost Suter, Radulov, Tootoo, Kostitsyn and Bouillion and you haven't bothered to replace any of those players.
Polie keeps saying the Preds will match it and retain him...if that was the case Nashville would have already inked Weber to a deal. Since that hasn'thappened now Nashville is in a huge bind and are looking to see IF they can pull off a match. At the end of the day Nashville has screwed this up and he signs with the Flyers.
These are the facts of the issue and this is the reality of it all.
Of course I heard what his agent said. He just signed an offer sheet with Philly so what did you expect him to say? You seem to disregard his comments later on when he said that Shea would be more than professional in honoring the deal should Nashville match. In the end, I could care less what his agent says, its all posturing. I've yet to hear weber himself say he wants out of Nashville, and i don't expect I ever will.
You keep saying Nashville can't match the offer, when you don't know a thing about the ownership group in place. I could care less about what capgeek says. As far as jimmy blackberry goes, he's tried to buy how many teams in the last decade? Not just Nashville. Besides, it's completely irrelevant because It was not the same ownership in place that is there now.
And as far as radulov, boullion, Kostytsin, and Tootoo go, the preds elected to let every one of those guys walk. We didn't lose them, we told them to find work elsewhere. Those are facts!
As for poile not immediately matching the offer, he is a very diligent man. He is the last person you will ever see make a rash decision. Especially a 110 million dollar decision. Easy for you to say he should have matched it yesterday when it's not your 110 million your spending.
Semin and Nash with a cheap shutdown vet D like Jurcina would do. would lose some pieces for Nash,(Cleary,Miller,Emmerton and a 1st & 4th round pick) but that would help the cap. it is possable (unlikely) thou.
same guy who also said on July 3rd that Suter had agreed to be a Wing.
This guy called the Roy/Ott trade, Prust to Habs, and and Carle to Tampa 2 days before it happened. Theres a few others - this goof at least has a few sources that have tipped him off on legit information.
