#2421008 NHL considering ban on spin-o-rama in shootout..

The one they should make illegal is the Patrick Kane "Come to a complete stop & stick handle for 2 minutes" move

#2420975 Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena

Posted by FireCaptain on 20 June 2013 - 12:39 AM

I was in that article, that's why I said I didn't like the idea of the reduce seating numbers.

I'm pretty sure I read 18k somewhere.. I'll try to find a link

The field's also bigger with more players (and therefore more action) and a football is magnitudes larger than a puck.

Go home comparison, you're drunk.

Why are people worried about being further away from the ice? There isn't a bad seat at JLA, even at the very top. I've sat in dozens of spots there, from the 5th row from the ice to the absolute last row in the building. All sight lines are perfect. If you're worried about being too far from the action, how do you explain a football stadium?

That's far higher up than any hockey arena.

He had 16 goals in the playoffs.

16 goals in only 24 games that's insane! He will be a Red Wing next year If I have to pick him up from Grand Rapids and drive him to Detroit myself!

#2417980 Griffins GM 7 - tonight

I never noticed until this game, but apparently Journey is also played at Griffins games, and just like at Wings games they like to yell the "Detroit" in the opening verse.

Only difference is that they've played the whole song at the Griffins game

Barons lost a player but take the lead.

No this isn't me expecting a last game Wednesday.
I have been lucky enough to cheer for a team where every year was a competetive year. I arrived in Vancouver in 94 just after the riots and was very interested in this game called hockey. My cousin was watching the Canucks play the Wings and he was being all gooey about how this Canucks team was just one win away from winning the 'cup'. What 'cup'? The 'Stanley Cup'! The cup that caused the riots, he says. In the Philippines, we last took a stand and marched the streets, peacefully, for our rights. What is this cup that can cause a riot?

The wings won that day and my cousin was angry. I said to myself: 'I'm gonna cheer for those guys'. I don't want a team that caused riots!.
I go to school and I play hockey for the first time. I passed the puck to my goalie and i scored on my own net. My whole team was dejected but they said 'it's ok, we'll score back'. Although I scored another goal on my own net I remembered what it was like to play the game. I watched highlights on tsn and followed the wings religiously. NHL 91 was my very first video game. NHL 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 all followed.

I put my faith in the wings. I prayed for them. I cried for them and I trusted in them. Every success they had, I felt, was also my success. I had something to believe in.

96 was a major year for me and all wings fans because this was the Yzerman goal. I remember me sitting down in front of the TV then jumping uncontrollably. It was 'our year'. Finally after losing last year. Then we face the avs and draper gets hit. We lose the series.
I was still in grade school and had been bullied so I just went home, waited for wings highlights and got my taste of success. Then March arrives and mccarty pummels lemieux, scores the winning goal and exacts the full revenge. I felt a sense of euphoria knowing that there's always a next time. We win the cup despite being underdogs to the flyers. I watch vlad's crash video. I was dejected. Next year we play our hearts out after losing a key player and sweep washington. I see Stevie put the cup on vlad's lap and wheel him around while the whole team was behind him. I cried. I get teary eyed even now. They did something more than for themselves. I applied that in my life.
Mediocre years came but I still got to watch hall of fame players wear a wings jersey. Fedorov, larionov, coffey, ciccarelli, vernon, shanny, hull, robitaille, murphy, clark, cujo.
Then 02. Hasek takes us to the finals and during the year I watched Zata and Datsyuk play alongside Hull...i knew they'd be superstars. 08 and 09 come and last year.

I reflect back and realized that I've been very lucky. I watched hall of famers, loved the game and applied everything the wings did, to my life. I go through hard times and know there will be a next time. I go through good times and enjoy it cuz there might never be that chance again. I never regretted anything. Last year was when the last of my childhood heroes left. Lids and homer. I loved them both. Then I look back at this team that they built. They're young and inexperienced still. But, like I did, believed.
In a year that 29 teams would have used to tank and get first pick, we go to second round and take the best team to 7. I never once doubted. I prepared for the worst and always expected the best. It has been a joy to watch the new era carry that torch. In retrospect, we should have been all playing golf after the season. But this team made it possible for more palpatations and for wings fans everywhere to still believe.

Let's go red wings *clap* *clap**clapclapclap*!

#2380794 Ilitch is being cheap with the Wings now that the Tigers are good.

Posted by 8 Legged RedWing on 05 April 2013 - 02:28 PM

It's no denying Illitch would rather have a world series ring versus one or two more stanley cup rings but to say he is spending money on the Tigers that could otherwise be spent on the Wings probably isn't true. There is no cap in baseball so he treats them like he used to treat the Wings. He has to be more careful about his spending with the Wings and pick his purchases a lot more wisely. Even if it isn't actually him making the decisions on who to sign, he still signs the checks. So I don't agree with you saying Mr. I is being cheap with the Wings. He is just dying for a world series ring... no pun intended.

I really am glad that Holland didn't spend picks or prospects to bring in Gaborik.  He is injury prone and isn't worth his 7.5 million dollar cap hit.  Pomminville was the only guy I would even consider, and he isn't a top 6 winger like the Wings need.  Boumeester isn't worth it either.

One of two things are going to happen.....

Either the Wings fall flat on their faces in the next couple years, fade away from playoff contention, Holland gets fired, and the collective whiners here will yell I told you so and sprint off to the Penguins forum board to become new fans....

The Wings will retool and rebuild over the course of the next couple years, and return younger and stronger in a couple years.  They will be in a better position to win a cup then, so the collective whiners will stick around and cheer their team on.

Either way, its a win/win for me.  This forum really does need an enema.  For too long, Wings fans have been gifted with high caliber teams and 4 Stanley Cups.  The Wings fans are spoiled.  Hell, I know I am.  You can thank the NHL for making league parity a top concern.  No longer can teams try to buy a cup.  The salary cap has leveled the playing field.  To expect a team to compete for the cup every year is ludicrous.  Making the playoffs should be the new benchmark now.  Once your team gets in, then anything can happen.

At this point, I am going to support the Wings as they work to make the playoffs.  I call on every Wings fan to do the same thing.  Stand behind your team.  Stand behind your Wings management.  Its that simple.

For every one saying Holland lacked the "balls" to do anything, I've already posted this but:

“We offered some of (prospects). At the end of the day someone didn’t like them as much as we do or they liked someone else’s players better.”

He made an effort to acquire someone. Other teams outbid him. Maybe it's not a matter of him not making an effort, but a matter of our prospects not being viewed as highly as someone else's? If Holland moved Nyquist, Mrazek and a 1st and 2nd to get Pominville, would you be happy? I'd be pissed off.

Hell, I would be really pissed if Holland offered that.  Pomminville isn't worth that.

Dumb trade by the Lightning... the Sens fleeced them.

I'm happy Holland stood pat-- this Wings roster isn't a trade or two away from winning the Cup this spring.  If we can't win now it'd be stupid to pick up rentals.  With the cap dropping things will be wild this summer, might as well retain as much flexibility and as many draft pics as we can.

Everyone gets better but us. How could he not go for gabby? Awful Kenny you should be fired. Most mad I've ever been with him

How do you kno he didn't make an offer for gabby? Everyone needs to stop overreacting
