#2061371 Welcome to Detroit

Posted by Travis on 11 November 2010 - 01:39 PM

that video series is lame as f***. Seriously. its about a few kids who want to be proclaimed as artists and just try to make detroit out to be some magical city made of rainbows and orange sorbet. its not. Its a big city that was riding high w/ about 2 million people, now it has less than half of that population lost in like 40 years. That said, I love the city of detroit

Yeah, f*** people who are doing what they know to try and make an improvement where they live. I hardly get the vibe that they're trying to make Detroit some 'magical city' - they're just trying to do something. Maybe you don't deem what they're doing to be important, and maybe in the grand scheme of things it isn't, but at least they're doing something positive with their time.

I've never had a problem down there. I just mind my own business and everything is cool. So what's the big deal?

Media sensationalism, selective journalism, and lots of 'expert' criticisms from people who've never even been there. People are more likely to believe the 'tale' of the city than the truths behind it. Everyone wants to classify Detroit as a post-apocalyptic town of some sort because it's scary and somehow sexy all at the same time.

Obviously, Detroit has problems, and we all like to joke - but Michigan is like family to me. I live here, I grew up here, I love it here so much that I have a tattoo of the state. Those of us living here can say whatever we want about it but, like family, no one else can. Maybe I'm weird for getting so defensive about it, but I have pride in where I'm from.

The video I posted up there shows some of the young people in Detroit who are doing their part to rejuvenate the city and I think it's great.

#2059600 Why is St. Louis doing so good?

Posted by Travis on 08 November 2010 - 11:37 AM

Totally mad bro. I wish our Wings could be as successful. :ranting:

If I wish to enjoy my stay? I've been a member here A LOT longer than you have.
And the latter part of my earlier post was a joke.

I try not to live in the past. I'm kinda focussed on the present right now. But thanks for the history lesson.

The reality of the present is that your team won't be relevant until they do something after April 9.

#2059580 good day but bad night....

Jeez guys. You ever consider the possibility that maybe its a kid posting?

I fail to see how that's an excuse.

That's awesome that you got some face time with the Wings, but I'm with FireCaptain. That was a chore to read.

Larry Murphy:

Currently drinks himself into oblivion and attemtps to be an analyst for Fox Sports and the NHL Network.

How awkward was the post game show when he started coughing and he and Keating looked like the world was going to end if he coughed on camera?

Is currently employed by FSN Pittsburgh as one of the douchiest color guys on TV.

#2056620 Movember

Posted by Travis on 03 November 2010 - 09:59 AM

Funny coincidence to read this thread today, as my dad is going to get surgery for prostate cancer this very day.

I already have a moustache though, and I'm not gonna start clean shaven, but I'm sure as hell not gonna shave it anytime soon either, so happy Movember.

Best of luck to your Dad today.

#2056599 Class Act Organization

f*** Cancer. There's nothing I despise more in this entire world than Cancer. Both my parents are survivors and someday your brother will join their ranks. Classy move by the organization, it only furthers my love and respect for this team and the people involved with it.

The important thing is that it made your brother happy and has lifted his spirits.

Having seen your profile picture before, I'm surprised that he chose to go to your house, considering that he prefers less than appealing women to hang out with.

#2049750 Rypien suspended 6 games

Posted by Travis on 20 October 2010 - 06:02 PM

While I agree that Rypien was an idiot for doing what he did, the fan is being an absolute child about this. I had some compassion for him when I thought it was a teenager, but knowing that he's 28 and trying to squeeze this for all it's worth is just pathetic.

It's hard to put yourself in his position, but I'd like to think that I would wait for the club to call me and address it. Give me a jersey, some tickets, and a few beers and we're even.

#2047293 Red Wings are going to be just fine

Posted by Travis on 15 October 2010 - 09:06 AM

What?? You really think it's not time to panic? Did you watch the game? It was a very badly played game by the Wings. I'm not sure how much you know about hockey (I'm an expert) but teams very, very rarely recover from a bad game, especially not when that bad game happens this early in the season.

Hope you guys enjoy the rest of the season, personally I'm OUT.

If anyone is panicking already then they're crazy.
