#2321659 Who is your favorite player from a team besides the Wings?

Posted by Travis on 24 July 2012 - 07:32 PM

Miguel Cabrera.

Edit: in all seriousness, that's a tough question. I honestly don't know if I have one at this point. There have been players that I've enjoyed outside of the Wings but they always seem to turn out to be assholes, whiners, or political martyrs.

Tigers acquire SP Annibal Sanchez and IF Omar Infante for P Jacob Turner, C Rob Brantly, and P Brian Flynn.

Turner is still not MLB-ready, as we've seen in his 2 starts this year. It was nice to see him shut down the White Sox, but I am more concerned with the Rangers, Yankees, and Angels - and Turner won't shut down any of them. Infante is exactly what we need to upgrade the 2B position.

#2319877 We can still win it all THIS season, but...

Oh. Another one of these.

I'll say this, I love the potential in a Nyquist / Helm / Brunner line. I expect big things out of the Goose.

#2318307 Wolski signs with Washington

Good price, but it's not like Kenny missed out on a gem. This guy has been on 4 teams in 2 years, not including AHL stints. Clearly, there's a reason for that.

42, how could you even say that?! Bears eat beets, bears, beats... Battlestar Gallactica...

Identity theft is real, Stev! Millions of families are affected every year!

#2312485 Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Posted by Travis on 01 July 2012 - 11:10 PM

I was never a fan of the guy as a Predator (obviously), but I think a lot of the "crappy dude" stuff just comes from our disdain for him on the ice. I'd like to imagine that the cheap shots will be come less a part of his game as the Wings don't really fly that route. However, I am excited for the grit and annoyance that he'll provide the team. It's something they haven't had since that one Maltby a-hole we all liked so much. :thumbs-up:

#2310890 St. James: Wings have inquired about Rick Nash

Posted by Travis on 28 June 2012 - 10:05 PM

WOW are you even serious????   .... Crosby, Ovechkin, Heatly, Hossa and Kovy put up on worse teams than the BJs in their past.???????

Don't forget that Heatley, Hossa, and Kovalchuk all played for Atlanta.

#2308778 Trade Ian White?

Posted by Travis on 22 June 2012 - 01:17 PM

As most others have said, the Wings are totally capable of upgrading their D without trading White. Obviously, Suter is the top priority but I'd love to see Matt Carle sign with Detroit and would feel pretty good about a defense with White, Suter, Kronwall, and Carle.

I can't imagine why the Red Wings would trade him, sure his value is high - and anyone who plays with Lids will be better - but it's not like we signed some schmuck or career AHLer who lucked out. White outperformed career numbers, sure, but he's still a valuable piece of this team.

#2307965 Curt Fraser named Dallas Stars Assistant Coach

Posted by Travis on 19 June 2012 - 08:51 AM

I've been away and the first thing I asked myself was when the Griffins fired Fraser. Not at all upset to see Fraser leave. I've felt for a couple of years now that the team has had the talent level - especially last year - to compete but they simply did not. Hopefully this will be a positive change.

Anyone have any news or rumors about where Oswalt is going to sign? He's going to make an impact if he goes with Texas, St. Louis, Boston or wherever he may land, but I figured he would have signed somewhere by now.

"Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the possibility of Oswalt returning in June is diminishing.  According to Rosenthal, Major League executives say it's his asking price.  One source tells Rosenthal Oswalt wants a pro-rated $7.5 million in base salary.  Another said that Oswalt’s desired salary is a moving target, 'but always high.'"

Regardless of allegiances, that's a really great promotion.

#2277126 Milbury slams Blysma and Crosby

Posted by Travis on 03 April 2012 - 08:59 AM

Mike Milbury is a masochistic *******...and I'm a dude sayin' this.  Some of the sh*t he said there is F'd, all I'll say is Blysma could have at least made himself heard because there's no damn way nothing's on your mind at that point.  I'd be pissed if Babs' just gave the stare. (unless the stare was directly an inch away from the opposing teams coach ;)

I think you mean misogynistic.

Regardless, Milbury is a ****. And while I don't like Crosby or the Pens and I love it when people rip them; somehow Milbury doing so feels hollow since all involved parties are assholes.

#2274037 Happy Turtle Day

Posted by Travis on 26 March 2012 - 08:08 AM

My Dad and I have always shared our closest connection through Red Wings hockey and I remember watching this with him. I was 10 when this happened and we were both so ready for this. The year before was my first full season as a Wings fan and I think this is the moment that cemented my fandom. I remember being so distraught by the Kris Draper injury and the Red Wings' playoff exit the year before and this was the sort of 'good guys win' poetic justice I needed back then.

This, the '97, and the '08 Stanley Cups are my greatest memories of Red Wings hockey.

#2270851 Yzerman Lightning Jersey

Posted by Travis on 17 March 2012 - 08:03 AM

I know that I'm a) resurrecting an old topic and b) replying to myself but I saw one in person last night.

I went to the Griffins / Marlies tilt last night and spotted some guy wearing a Lightning jersey across the ice. I didn't think anything of it until I passed him on the way out. It was an Yzerman jersey with a GM wear the C would go. The worst of it is, across his chest there appeared to be some sort of corporate sponsorship logo. I'd hate to think that these things were ever a give away of any sort. I feel like I must look into this more, despite how painful it may be.

I tried to take a picture of it, but since it's pure evil it didn't show up on camera.
