#2028825 NHL back in Québec city

Posted by Dominator2005 on 24 August 2010 - 06:20 AM

Where did you found that info?!

Do people not understand that you have to have an owner and that it's not a matter of "ok, let's have a team here, here, and here"

The Nordiques were moved because they were sold to owners who wanted to move them to Denver. No amount of petitioning will change that.

Unless this is to move a s***ty team north of the boarder, I will not sign this, the NHL does not need another team.

I agree 100%... There will be relocalisation http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance , http://www.google.ca...480f00f777329cb

I'm not sure I want to do anything that supports French people but... free T-shirt... I can't let that chance go to waste!!

Wow - no comment

Don't speak French, so I have no idea what I did, but I picked Wendel Clark and Homme (XXL). Hope that helps.

Thanks - you might even receive a t-shirt...

I'm not fan (and never was) of Nordiques... but can't be worst than Islanders, Yotes, Trashers...

It's very easy:

Your first name:
Your last name:
Fav player (Nordique):
Size of your t-shirt:

And that's it... more than 26 000 people in less than 72 hours.

#2017943 Wings should sign Paul Kariya

Posted by Dominator2005 on 22 July 2010 - 05:39 AM

The guy scores at-will on shootouts. High glove, every time...

I'd be for it. He provides toughness that the Wings lack, also.

OMG...

#2017677 Gagne to Lightning

This is more than a couple times:

2010/05/07 Missed 4 games (right foot surgery).
2009/12/19 Missed 24 games (hernias in right groin).
2009/01/06 Missed 2 games (shoulder injury).
2008/10/24 Missed 1 game (flu).
2008/05/18 Missed the last 27 games of the regular season and all 17 playoff games (concussion).
2008/01/10 Missed 26 games (dizzyness).
2007/11/05 Missed 4 games (dizzyness).
2007/03/24 Missed 6 games (groin).
2006/03/06 Missed 3 games (bruised knee).
2006/02/10 Missed 1 game (stomach virus).
2006/01/02 Missed 1 game (flu).
2005/12/22 Missed 5 games (groin).
2003/10/25 Missed 2 games (bruised right shoulder).
2003/04/01 Missed 13 games (groin).
2003/03/07 Missed 13 games (groin).
2003/02/04 Missed 3 games (groin).
2003/01/07 Missed 5 games (cut above right eyebrow/concussion).
2002/12/02 Missed 2 games (abdominal injury).
2002/04/17 Missed the last game of the regular season (virus).
2002/01/08 Missed 2 games (shoulder injury).
2001/03/24 Missed 12 games (left shoulder subluxation).
2001/02/22 Missed 1 game (back injury).

... and what's funny part (or sad) is that he (Gagné) still played more games than Kronwall or Franzen ...

Kronwalls injury report since 2005 is pretty horrible to read as well :(

Franzens injury report is BAD as well... :(

#2013797 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Posted by Dominator2005 on 11 July 2010 - 02:22 PM

No, of course there is no NEED for him. There is also no NEED to win the cup. Hell, there is even no NEED to make the playoffs. Let's just trade away or buy out any player who didn't instantly make the decision to play for the red wings or have talked to other teams. They're all dumb Prima Donnas anyway.

It's not like if he signs with Detroit that Stanley Cup is ours...

#2013744 Red Wings Making Play for Modano

Detroit -- So on Friday, Mike Modano apparently told the Dallas Morning News he would listen to recruiting pitches from San Jose and Minnesota, and that talk that his only options were to play for the Red Wings or retire was wrong.

Well, they were his words. Still blushing from the Wings' full-court press last Tuesday, Modano told me, "There isn't any other team. It will be here (Detroit) or I'm not playing. I think it's narrowed to that."

OK, so what happened between then and now? How, all of a sudden, have the Wild and Sharks entered the picture? Has he even decided he wants to play another year yet?

Here's what I think happened. First, when news of the Wings' intense interest in Modano started spreading, it was like dropping blood into the water.

Money talks
Second, I think the money got smaller. The Wings, after signing Drew Miller and Patrick Eaves last week, have a little more than $3 million left under the salary cap. They still have to re-sign restricted free agents Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader, as well as possibly Derek Meech or another veteran defenseman.

It was assumed the Wings would offer Modano something at or just over $1 million. But I think now maybe it is $800,000, plus they were selling him on taking it over $1 million with incentives that wouldn't apply to the cap until the 2011-2012 season.

When I talked to Holland last Tuesday, it seemed like it was just a matter of Modano (Westland) deciding he wants to play another year. After talking to Holland again Thursday, I came away with an entirely different feeling.

Here's what Holland said: "There is no time frame. At the end of the day, for me, we're interested in Mike Modano. But if we didn't do anything, I'd be OK. We have Abby and Helm to play there (at the third and fourth line center spots).

"You know, it is Mike Modano, a local guy who we think can still play and would be a great fit. But we only have so much wriggle-room. Right now he's going through the emotion of does he want to play and the emotion of what we're offering. We only have so much space to offer."

Other options
Maybe an $800,000 offer was an insult to Modano. I don't know. But looking at the Wild and Sharks, they can't offer him too much more. The Wild have 23 players signed for $57 million and the Sharks, who just put up a three-year, $14 million offer sheet to Chicago's restricted free agent Niklas Hjalmarsson, have 18 players signed at $54 million.

The salary cap is $59.4 million.

Another issue here, too, is his wife, actress Willa Ford. We don't know what she's thinking about any of this, but presumably it would be better for her to have her husband playing in California than Detroit or Minnesota.

Who knows? It would be a coup for the Wings to have Modano centering the third line and playing point on the second power-play unit. It would be a great story, having the local kid finish his career in his hometown. It would be a boon both on the ice and at the box office.

But if it doesn't happen? Helm would take over the third line and Abdelkader the fourth. They would maybe have some money left to sign an enforcer.

It wouldn't be the end of the world.

I don't want Mike Primadona and let's be honest there is no NEED for him right now.

Wild GM claims he's not pursuing Mike Modano for nostaliga's sake; Modano may have called Sharks; Red Wings' contractual hands tied by Modano's indecision

July 10, Mercury News: A Sharks source confirms the team indeed has had contact with free agent Mike Modano, but won’t say which side made the initial phone call.

Modano listed the Sharks and Minnesota Wild as the teams that reached out to him this week. The Detroit Red Wings reportedly are also interested.

And the Dallas News's Mike Heika states the obvious about Modano's possible move to San Jose:

July 10, Dallas News: This will be interesting. Modano said the other day that the comment that it was Detroit or nothing was probably too strongly worded. He could talk to the Wild and the Sharks in the next few days. I do know that being in California would be helpful for his personal life.

We'll see.

He still has to decide if he wants to play next year before he can do anything else, so this could take a while before a decision is made.

Therein lies the problem. The longer Modano takes to make up his mind, the longer Ken Holland has to wait to lock up Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader to long-term deals, and the same's true for Holland's decision as to whether the team will simply re-sign Derek Meech to compete with Jakub Kindl and Doug Janik for the #6/7 spot on defense, or whether the team wants to pursue an unrestricted free agent defenseman.

I don't like this situation at all... Modano Primadona

Brian McGrattan
Andrew Peters
Eric Boulton
Jared Boll (RFA)
Dan Carcillo (RFA)
Jamal Mayers
Nick Tarnasky

Boulton (HW) can take regular shifts
Mayers (MW) can take regular shifts

Boll would be perfect fit - too bad Holland doesn't have a balls to send him offer sheet...

I'll take a Mike Modano over a gritty forward today. No cup since, when was it? '99? He has to be hungry. And where better to win another than his home state?

Hell yes - let's offer 1 year contract to Gordie Howe - no cup since '55 - he has to be hungry...

I def didn't think he'd go for 1.8... I guess his past injuries contributed a bit to the lower cap hit. I would have taken him at 1.8.

Exactly kind of player and deal that Detroit/Holland should be going after... I would like to know what Holland is doing now
