If the Wings stand pat we'll be well on our way to acquiring a replacement for Lidstrom... Seth Jones!!!

They (players) are looking for a new 5 year deal. (This is completly BS - they should more look at 10 years). According to Fehr (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=409972), the gap is about $180 millions.
Now, let's divide the gap ($180 mil.) with 5 (years new deal) it's a differential of $36 millions per year.
There are approx. 700 players in NHL, let's divide $36 millions by 700, we have a differential of $51 428,00 per player/per year.
Average salary in NHL is about $2.4 millions (http://ca.sports.yah...ug=ycn-10423863) so I guess that $51 428,00 (a little bit more than 2% of their respective salary) is not that big deal... but then again, I'm just a hockey fan... who cares about hockey fans today?
Has it occured to you that maybe Ilitch wasn't ok with that amount of money? Holland doesn't get to unilaterally make these decisions. 90M was them upping their offer, which Ilitch might not have been crazy about to begin with. I know that we just assume that Ilitch's wealth is unlimited, but maybe things aren't going quite as well these days? Just a thought.
Man people are fast to throw Kenny under the bus.
Well original offer was $80M and then someone (I think it was Ilitch) had increased to $90M.
Kenny wasn't prepared to live without Lidstrom. What will be next step... he will bring Lilja back and overpay for Carle...
2 years ago he could have Bogosian for Hudler and Ericsson but he denied that trade because he wants to have veterans... Why Sammy is back? Why we can't give a chance to Nyquist and Brunner on the 2nd line??? I don't care if we are going to win 60 games or 45 games. Time has changed, YOU NEED TO TRUST to your young players. We are looking at Doan as a savior (he's 35) but why Kenny opted for Emmerton instead of a Milan Lučić?! He was supposed to make this team bigger and tougher... "tough addition" is Jordan Tootoo - WTF!!!!!
I hated Sammy as much as the next guy, but I'm actually ok with this now...he's definitely an upgrade over Hudler (who I hate more), and for less than was offerered to Hudler. At least we know he'll shoot the damn puck!
I'm sure that Brunner was supposed to replace Hudler... This is one of the reason why young players liek Schultz will never sign for Red Wings. Instead of giving a chance to Nyquist and Brunner on the top 2 lines... Kenny is going after 35yo Sammy... Sucked 3 years ago... will suck for the next 2 years...
come on Holland. Do something. Pittsburgh is getting stronger while we are still stagnant. Need a goal scorer and a solid 1st pair d-man.
What Kenny could do:
Bring back Hudler as top six forward Bring back for the 2nd tour Sammy as the RW top six forward Bring back for the 2nd tour Lilja to play with Kronwall
I don't know why but for the some reasons Holland loves to bring people for the 2nd tour...
They already got Staal's replacement as their 3rd line center in Brandon Sutter. Staal ultimately was over qualified to be stuck in the 3rd line imo & Sutter will be a serviceable replacement. IF they do get Parise, Shero just pulled a major upgrade as he'll have another legitimate, top-line winger to pair with either Cindy or Geno.
And they can add Suter without any problems now that Zbynek is gone.
NBC SPORTS PRO HOCKEY TALK: Joe Yerdon cited a “tweet” from Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Rob Rossi claiming Penguins GM Ray Shero, after trading away Jordan Staal, contacted Nashville Predators GM David Poile to discuss the rights of pending UFA blueliner Ryan Suter. Poile, however, isn’t trading Suter’s rights as he hopes to re-sign him.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: It appears Shero has moved away from Suter to Phoenix’s Keith Yandle, though his dealing Zbynek Michalek back to the Coyotes last night could instead signal he’s clearing cap space to take a serious run at Suter via the UFA market on July 1.
