#2216505 ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space

Posted by HockeytownRules19 on 20 October 2011 - 12:50 PM

I think we should all pray the Devils are not in it come the trade deadline because if so I would definitely not be surprised to see them trade Zach Parise since he is a UFA after this year... No doubt the wings would be interested too... OMG that would be amazing! :siren:

#2199722 Grade Holland

Posted by HockeytownRules19 on 20 July 2011 - 08:08 AM

A... People on LGW might say HUH?!

My reasoning is simple... He didn't overspend on any free agents just to fill a need, yes i know we signed Ericsson to a weird deal  , but in this market we got Ian White and Mike Commodore to a couple of really big bargains, especially white.

Also, we resigned our 4th line forwards to extremely reasonable deals.

In addition, he looks to have signed Conklin, a very respected backup, at a dirt cheap price.

Most importantly, he re-signed #5!

Rememeber, in recent years we usually never had enough money to make some deals at the Trade Deadline now we do, so I'm excited.

Not bad Mr. Holland!

#2193080 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by HockeytownRules19 on 30 June 2011 - 11:28 PM

I fail to see how anyone can call this deal "bad" at this particular moment. It's not hurting anything. Red Wings have the cap space to afford it.

How do we know what went on behind the scenes? It sounds like Holland wanted Ericsson for about $1.8 to $2.0 million. Ericsson is in the press speaking how he wants the chance to advance to the next level. Ericsson know's he'd easily get $3.75+ or more tomorrow. So really he took a discount.

Knowing this, Holland probably said:
"Okay, $3.25 then, but if you don't progress, I am packaging you up and trading you! - Ericsson,do you understand that I will trade you if you do not meet the potential, right?"

Ericsson - "Yes, lets do this!"

[worse case scenario, seven months later Ericsson has not improved, Holland trades him with a pick/prospect for a nice return]

In this market, Holland can get a nice return on Big Rig with this current contract. This is called "asset management". It might not look good right now, but I am sure Kenny has a plan.

OMG a knowledgeable poster at LGW... I'm Shocked :yowza: lol

#2192906 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by HockeytownRules19 on 30 June 2011 - 09:29 PM

I think the Defense coaching had more to do with the poor play of our defense and the growth of Ericsson then his actual play. IMO since our D coach has changed, this team's defense has never been the same. IMHO if we can grab a decent defensive guru that can groom the upcoming kids and just put Ericsson back into line, this could be a good signing.

Until then this signing is nothing more then a desperation / backup signing by Holland. After Wisnieski, I don't see any other defensman that is young and that would even interest me. So having Ericsson back isn't that bad after all.

+1.... I still have all the trust in Kenny

I am actually happy they gave 3.25 mil to Ericsson instead of overpaying for an aging Tomas Kaberle, because I still would be surprised if Wisniewski did not sign with CBJ and with that no one else would be on the market.

I'm in a wait and see mode because Kenny knows how to do his job a lot better than we know how to do his job.

Wings making progress with Ericsson and Eaves

Holland said of Ericsson, “Gone back and forth with his agent, made progress. We'll talk again either later tonight or in the morning. We'd like to sign him, he'd like to stay.''

Holland said of Eaves, “Talked with his agent, think we're making progress.''
