#2120034 Chris Chelios Article

A couple of quotes this message board would like:

"Right now I'm working with Kenny Holland and I just shut my mouth and listen," he said. "I remember Brett Hull did a lot of talking in his first year as GM and he's not a GM anymore."

Chelios said he might become a coach. "I think coaching would suit me," he said. "That's basically what I've been doing in Grand Rapids lately."

Didn't we used to have a goal scorer named Zetterberg?

Yes, and he has a bad back, was crammed into the boards earlier, and is on the same line as Franzen who has 4.

We do the same thing when it happens to the Wings.

Umm, Howard, what are you looking at/doing?

Lidstrom's back. Lots of guys screening the goalie, there.

It's been a snoozefest since it began

Are you watching the same game? There have been 10 goals scored.

Our D is so effing bad. Why the F can't the rest of the coaching staff see that McCrimmon needs to go ASAP?

Um, the problem is not one coach. McCrimmon coaches the defensemen. That doesn't mean he came up with and enacted the entire defensive game plan. That would be all three coaches. Defense requires all five guys on the ice working together. As it can be seen, the Wings start and end periods flat. I believe that is mostly on the players relaxing too much. They need a full focused 60 minutes.

He cannot be placed on the waiver wire until Friday at noon, according to Mickey Redmon. So, their is no shortening of the waiver period. We will not know until Saturday at noon, if he has been picked up.

For the people who think Osgood is gone for the rest of the year, think of this. Groin injuries are tough for hockey players, especially goalies. Osgood is predicted to start playing again around early March. He will not be in game shape, then. It will take some time for him to get back up to speed. Picking up Nabokov allows Osgood more time to get ready and provides some veteran presence for a group of mostly young guys in the system, while Osgood is away healing.

there must be something more to this...

from what I understood, a claiming team cannot stash Nabby to the AHL because of the NMC. so that would be a huge deterrent, right?

The waiver rule itself covers that a player cannot be placed in the AHL after they have signed a contract after December 15, when starting the season outside of North America. The NMC just ensures that Nabokov has control over where he can end up, which might deter some teams from grabbing him.

pss. if he clears, this means Ozzie is obviously done.

No, all it means is that the Wings would have 3 goalies on their roster for the rest of the regular season.

To clarify something I have seen throughout the thread, Nabokov cannot be placed on waivers until noon on Friday, so we will not officially know that he is claimed until noon Saturday.

McCollum is getting called up. They are not going to be picking up a new goalie any time soon.
